    I’m actually Indian and my aunt does henna like this. Longest it takes her can be up to 8-9 hours. Yesterday I got a small henna tattoo on my hand.

    This is definitely an Indian bridal style mehendi. In many parts of india the bride usually has the name of her groom hidden within the design and it is sort of a game for the groom to find his name the longer it takes for him to find his name it is believed the better is the couple's future. Also in some areas it is believed that darker the name is better is the future of the couple. So the buzzfeed presents written in mehendi on Michelle's hand is quite interesting.

      Why can't someone enjoy other cultures? Your skin colour doesn't ban you from exploring certain cultures. Funny how a white person could check out Irish culture but not Indian.

    • @sadlittleratboy

      +maya strich I completely understand what your saying but what if you really are someone who just wants to enjoy the culture? Like, I love trying Indian food (even though I live in Texas, so getting the real stuff us damn impossible) and I think Indian culture is lovely. I want to take part in the culture, but us it still rude?

    An ancient form of body adornment, henna designs have many significant meanings.
    While the art of henna tattooing is a cultural practice that dates back over 5,000 years, henna tattooing today is used as a popular form of expression for luck and happiness and can be found in many ceremonial practices, including Blessingways, marriages, births and battle.
    Most all Henna artists will suggest that the practice of Mehndi is freehand and intuitive

      just mix glue like Elmer's or any liquid white glue and food coloring an aply with a tooth pick or whatever is easy for you and let it dry until you can peel it of I recommend 30 minutes to an hour and then just peel it of and you have a "henna" tattoo

      +Franciny Zúñiga Luna
      it depends on the design, dear. bridal mehendi (or as you call it henna) takes a lot of time. the designs are really intricate and some brides like to have mehendi right up to their biceps. I remember when my sister got married, she was with the mehendi lady for 9 hours. :) and yes, it is faster when there are two artists, but as I said before, the length and the design play major roles in the time required! :)

    In India Bangladesh Pakistan Nepal Sri Lanka etc it’s called Mhendi (sometimes henna) (the actual paste that creates the stain) in other places it’s called henna. But the designs that everyone wears is native to South Asia, it’s on the buildings, clothes, ancient art works, it is everywhere and reflects history and culture, Hinduism etc I have no idea why Africans and Middle Eastern wear south Asians designs. I researched and in ancient Egypt they used to stain whole palms all one colour while we in South Asia always had intricate detailing and designs, so why do they do this and say it’s their culture “too”? Why pick and choose

    • @kenzarahmouni2093
      @kenzarahmouni2093 5 лет назад +7

      F S They say it’s their culture too because it is. Henna was originated from North Africa, Middle East, India, and South Asia. In Africa we would dip our hands and we would use designs, it all depends on what they wanted to do. So no we are not copying South Asia. We have been using henna just as long as them.

    • @divamariahcarey2
      @divamariahcarey2 8 лет назад

      +Rebecca Kim of course it will depend on precision and speed of the artist however I'm just saying that usually it does take less time than the 7 hrs. Plus I think a criteria of choice for bridals when it comes to choose who's gonna do your henna is speed. As a bridal I of course would want somebody who works well with beautiful details but I'll make sure she works quick, I mean it ain't no way I stay there for 7hrs or so waiting for this thing to be done and to dry! So yeah some ppl take their time but they'll be more unlikely to be chosen for weddings nights. In my opinion. :)

      I don't know how they concentrated that long. I might've gotten through on finger (granted I had the talent to)

      My theory on the person doing the tattoo being able to concentrate that long is that he/she is doing what he/she loves.

      im wondering if they take breaks... they have to right???

    • @hagetaren
      @hagetaren 8 лет назад

      +Razeylabbit they dont "have" to but if they dont move a bit every now and then its dangerous cuz you can get blood props in your veins wich is highly dangerous. you could lose an arm/leg. but it depends on how long your still and in what position.

    But you know what's the worst part of it

    Applying henna on someone's hands and legs is a real pain honestly
    I applied it on my sister's hands and legs on her wedding

    Oh well. Nice video

    I mean, you don't even realize the pain that the person putting on Henna has to endure. Imagine your hands and legs begging to be moved, but you can't because it will ruin the whole thing.

      If you get good quality henna, it'll last at least a month. And this is bridal henna, so I'm pretty sure it would be worth it if you were getting married the next day (they usually put the henna on the night before)
