- Some highs, fairly mid lows, but a generally great example of the current state of Rap and B. @dontolivermusic

"flirts with greatness" is such an apt description for this album. I haven't listened enough times yet to explain it better than this, but this album FEELS like something that will be underrated, never getting the proper attention it deserves. I'm not saying that's how it is, just that it evokes that feeling.
Prediction before watching: Prof. discusses what’s it like to be a motorcycle and how human subjectivity allows him to understand the consciousness of the not-I. Prof. then explains that Don Toliver is actually a motorcycle trying to understand what it’s like to be human and how that’s what this album is about. Overall he gives this album 2 strokes/5 could have been 4 strokes/5 but needed more cowbell in production. AAVA Prof. love your videos
😂 thanks for the chuckle.
Bruh this was my idea
Funny af tho 🤣
Lmao your riff on the “Chew on my ___” 😂
loved to see your reaction to the Don Toliver meme 🤣
AVAA
avaa mister skye, you should review "keep the change"
This video is just what I needed for my walk, thank you professor!!! AVAA!
AVAA Manger on Mcnichols by Boldy James and Sterling Toles please. One of the best albums I've heard
Man, AVAA sir. 5 minutes in and your sharing my same thoughts about Don. It would be funny yet awesome to think that if he possibly switched genres completely. Say for example, a genre akin to opera with his singing abilities. I believe he has the abilities (and influence) to use his talents to traverse genres completely.
AAVA! i’ll be honest with you im kinda burned out on this kind of sound in hip hop. i didn’t really like the last travis scott album that much either. It’s crazy because i know if i was to have heard this like 3 years ago i would have gone crazy and i recognize that a lot of this album (and the travis one) is objectively good music but im just not feeling it. i was really hoping this would be the project where don toliver found his own sound but if im being honest it still feels like he’s in travis’s shadow. i think your point abt the lack of continuity in producers is super solid. i think don really needs a rick rubin like character to come in and push him to be a little more collected artistically and to push him outside of his comfort zone. don is more than talented and hard working enough to have something really unique and special. peace and love proffy skye
Just seeing this video in my recommended made me go listen to the entire album myself. The lowest I could give a song is a 5, maybe a 4.5. Kryptonite, Purple Rain, and 5 to 10 were my tops. Cannot wait to listen to your thoughts professor.
AVAA I have the answer to some of this, the motorcycle theme is a homage to his late uncle, an audio clip of said uncle is actually played at the end of a track, he's the gentleman telling him he's going to blow up as Travis Scott's 'Drugs You Should Try It' plays in the background over what sounds like an old PA system. His uncle loved him a motorcycle, so that informed some of the theme.
My issue is a lot of artists in this circle are afraid to commit fully to a theme, and artists like Don and Trav both suffer from working with just the same people over and over. It's predictable! It leads to underwhelming results! I think this is why that Grammy is going to elude Trav for a while longer, that and because he refuses to really get personal.
If you want to look at a rap group that fully commits to storytelling I'm sure someone else has probably recommended clipping. - if you want to listen to an Afrofuturist dystopian rap opera about a sole survivor of an uprising on a slave ship losing his mind as he aimlessly hurtles through the void meanwhile the ship itself, which has sentience, falls in love with him they have an album called Splendor and Misery. Or just listen to their track Story 2, the least impressive thing about it is that despite the subject he never says 'fire.'
Idk, when I get bored about the more popular rappers rapping about sex and guns again I remember there are artists out there tackling more interesting topics. I'd also like to shoutout, though I'm sure he's been mentioned, Aesop Rock - the most verbose rapper of all time, raps about how he got a kitten that was better for his depression than meds (Kirby) or a kid refusing to eat his veggies (Grace).
AVAA, looking forward to your analysis on Lupe's "Samurai" 🫡
AVAA Tetsuo and Youth pls!!!
AVAA, Video on kendrick concert prof???
chew? Chew? im laughing way to hard at work😂 AVAA
Prediction b4 watching pt 2 he's gonna mention something ive never heard of (basically a free space) he'll say he thinks teezo should have got a verse and he will think the album ends kinda bland
teezo point is a given because he obviously should’ve gotten one lol
AVAA, didnt really get into this album but thought it was solid still. DAY ???? Of asking for the moor mother review!
AVAA, prof the proph with score prediction
AVAA, sammy one of the hardest ppl out there
Cew? 😭😭😭
Avaa
AVAA, you’re wrong about the drake honestly nevermind comparison because The Weeknd and Beyonce revived house music far before him and it is widely believed that Drake has been ripping off The Weeknd for at least 13 years at this point. Don is far more comparable to The Weeknd because he has a similar vocal range. I really don’t get why you like honestly nevermind, truly a wretched album. It’s the kind of music that’s played at an H&M.
Dr Nefario is from Despicable Me, not The Incredibles (thank god). He is that evil scientist who just lives in Grus basement and builds weapons, bombs, and other chemicals for some reason. Now that I think about it, Dr Nefario is just a goofy weapons manufacturer/arms dealer.
AVAA it is now 13 days since your warm feelings for AURORA have been cast aside like a sweaty sock. Perhaps the Euros are diverting your focus
AVAA, A lot of exploding underground music you probably would have gotten more from than this mediocre album that'll be soon forgotten I have to say😭 Review new rap album SCRIPTED PAIN by Sc23, Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee, You Could Do it Tonight by Couch Slut. Thank you for being kicked.
Do you have a life? AVAA
We all do
