    I love these documentaries. Although there are many terrible aspects to the internet, it is wonderful to see a bright, driven young man like you finding RUclips as an avenue for your passion for history. Keep dreaming!

  • @ianmedford4855
    @ianmedford4855 6 лет назад +67

    Awesome. There is almost nothing available about the Danelaw on RUclips; and its one of the most interesting topics I can think of. Well done. My favorite "What If" is what would have happened if King Harald had been able to make a deal at Stamford Bridge to give up Northumbria; then crushed the Normans at Hastings.

      That would be fantastic. You do excellent work, so I'm sure it would be well done. I know you get endless requests, but if you ever get around to the Border Wars among the Scottish Reiver families and the Wardens of the Northern Marches, that would be amazing.

    Love your videos, especially those around the viking/Saxon age of England. I’m born and bred in the northeast of England and have always loved the rich, if forgotten, history of the area.

    • @edoboleyn
      @edoboleyn 3 года назад +5

      After a year studying at a quite privileged university in the south-and requisite visits to London-the Northeast was the first part of England I really saw. I stayed in York and then Whitby, where I fell in love with the coast. Of course, I knew a little about the Viking history, the Danelaw, and the evidence of Norse settlement in place names like “Whitby” and much of the English language-as well as later upheavals like the Pilgrimage of Grace. It’s great to finally connect that history with, say, the name “Scarborough!” It’s a beautiful part of the country and everyone I met was quite friendly.

It is also how Historytime receives my comments. You really have no say in it. I dont know why you are still insisting on saying anything on the topic. Your videos are poorly made, and poorly planned. When I commented those many weeks ago, I gave you fair criticism and it you took it badly. That is your problem. I hardly said anything. I need you to stop making these personal comments because it is childish, it is incorrect and it is undeserved. Please just grow up or go away. Either way it is up to you.

    I'll say it again, I have been waiting for a source such as this, since reading The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium, by Danny Danziger. Thank you!

    the informatiion is extremely detailed. The maps you show are equally informative. my problem is that i would like some visual indication of what areas you are talking about when you show this medieval map of Britton. It would help to make the complicated history more easy to grasp. thank you

    Thank you! Wonderful work! I would like to know about the Scandinavian love for democracy and how it is conected to the Brittish democracy. You probably know about the allting at Iceland, Jamtamot in Jämtland, Sweden and the parliament in Isle of Man.

      The old Norse were Egyptian vikings. Look into the connections. We were sailing and raiding thousands of years before the mainstream "viking age". What we know now is but a fraction of Norse history

      Thankyou! This took me a long time to make so I'm glad you like it. They won't all be this long going forwards, and I hope to keep improving my style going forwards as I gradually get better with computers, but it is nice to have established a style with the maps etc.
