The gentleman taking the wave to the face is the best paddling intro ever, but........ you’re in desperate need of a proof reader!! No excuse for bad spelling in the age of autocorrect.
I’ve never been canoeing. Here my bad wants me to go down a river for 8-12 days. He says well he entering at the roughest point. How the hell are we not going to capsize
Less than 30 seconds any of these folks would loose balance and go overboard in a 3/27_ _ pro boat. IF you really want to vids of the correct paddling view any of the last 10 years of the AuSable Canoe Marathon. A guy named Al Widing completed this 38 times including 6 or more in his 80's. The last was at 87yrs old. 15 TO 16&1/2 HOURS NON STOP!
With all due respect, this canoe paddling technique is all wrong. I suspect that it comes from folks who learned to paddle in kayaks and they are transferring it to canoe paddling. The biggest thing I disagree with is the way that the upper body is moving backwards with the paddle blade as it moves through the water. This sucks all the power out of the stroke which come from a small "crunch" forward as you move the paddle through the water. Just one man's opinion. But I really think this is very bad advice and using this technique will wear out the paddler very quickly.
Well my opinion is if you twist your back and use your lats then you can power through the water easier because you are not just using your arms. You will burn out faster by just using your arms and with the twist it allows you to reach farther up ahead and apply more power to the water
I agree with you. Canoe paddling is more about the back and forth rocking than the rotation. Though some rotation is good to have. But as you said, moving the body backwards during the stroke is wrong, it should move forward during the stroke, essentially pushing the grip arm forward for leverage. What I disagree with most in this video though is holding your hand far above the head. This forces you to use more of the arms and less of the core. So, the paddles in this video are quite a bit too long for them.
YOU need to learn how to paddle first, then teach others. I'm sorry you don't know how to paddle correctly. If you paddled your way for two hours your arms would be dead. .....hint........DON'T BEND YOUR ARMS.
haha, are you serious? do you know who these people are? possibly the best, most experienced canoeists on the planet. Westwood is the pro of the pros, decorated ww slalom paddler. you are utterly without a clue.
@@thecount1001 Sir, if you re-read the above hint then you'll have the CLUE. "Pro of pros" or not, if he'd paddle the way he's showing for a couple of hours his arms would fall off. The gentleman may be a decorated SLALOM paddler, but you can't paddle like he does in 0:37+ for any length of time. Canoe paddling is ballet, and not hip hop.
I LOVE GOING CANOEING!
Jon Goldberg :😎😘
Who doesn't. It's amazing
Greetings from Oulu, Finland!
If I can just get a neo-canoer (or non-canoer) to (generally) use the paddle at 90 degrees instead of 45 degrees I am thrilled.
OK except using the J-stroke to correct in the stern. The goon stroke is more effective and makes for a cleaner extraction.
Thanks for the knowledges
INDEPENDANTANTLY

I like this video. Now reshoot it with the cast from the kids in the hall, please.
Hi, Bolivia The Band.
Nice to hear from you. Mine are all bigger.

Sitting on your knees looks terribly uncomfortable and just horrible on ones knees.
I was the 190th like
Im here because of Conan.
I had a canoe once. It sank.
@maegan I forgot about this comment. I lied. You cannot sink a canoe unless you really really try
its a paddling pfd, its supposed to be that small...
My comment was a year ago. I had forgotten.

Looked for your paddling vids on your channel. Where are they?
So everything he says about paddling is irrelevant because he doesnt have any videos about it? Do you realise how stupid that is?

Wrong canoe technics. Lower hand must be straight and no torso rotation in canoe!
