Great indepth video man 👏, I've been using the Blur guard for a few weeks now, and it's a game-changer! At first, I was skeptical because I've always used a guard system, but now I can't imagine fading without it. I've tried different methods, and this is what works best for me: 1. Bulk removal with a number 2 guard 2. Punch in my guideline 3. Work my way down with the Blur guard, and I'm done! I use it zero gap and it works perfectly. Honestly, it's a massive time-saver. It takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's amazing. Andis have taken note re-releasing the phat master blade on the 1st of May Exciting times!
I've been running Bevel Blade master and Phat Master set up since I've become a licensed barber. Purchased the PHAT MASTER CLIPPER LIMOTED EDITION wayyyy back in 2011 and have been running it since then.. My 2 masters along with my BGCR detachable clipper and my 2 andis outliner, 2 with regular t-outliner and other with gtx blade. Been my setup for a decade in a half now and LOVE IT
Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I measure my guard systems and blades the same way. I find that Gamma dub guards are the only guards that are true to size, along with Andis guards. So a 0/0.5 guard on those two systems is a true 1.5mm (except for the non-OG Andis 0 guard which mimics a Wahl half guard), a one is measured a true 3mm on both these systems. But with Wahl and Babyliss there are minor variations. One thing I will mention though this is just technical data and when practically cutting hair, makes little to no difference. So even with my measured fade/taper blades and guards all theoretically having all the measured distances to make a proper blend, I still find the Wahl guards (even with the variations) fade in to one another easier than most other guard systems. I also remember a video from Sofie Staygold saying the lithium FX opens to 4.5mm, close to a 1.5 guard. I commented saying there isn't a chance in hell that the blade lever will leave hair close to a 1.5 guard lol 😂 But as nerdy and technical these measurements may be, practically speaking a lot of these off-measurement guard systems fade better than those having true strict measurements. So, it's not all that important in some sense.
I used the corded phatmaster yesterday and the fine teeth cut so precise on tight curly hair. I have another phatmaster on a caliber 50 Cal but it’s not a stretch bracket nor does it have the matching cutting blade. Wish Phil made a stretch bracket and cam for the caliber.
Hey man I’m trying to get the phat master blade. I wanna put it on my JRL, Instincts & X ergos. What mods do I need EXACTLY to install it? I’d like the set up you have. Some links would be helpful
The instincts and x ergos already come with the philthyblendz mod. All my stuff I got from him for mods. The best set up so far though is Wahl senior, with the PB stretch bracket with the cam follower that allows you to was a Master Cutting blade too. That’s the only way to use the stretch bracket with it properly
@@thewoodshedbarber so if I order the new phat master blade for my instincts or ergos I can just screw it on without any other mods? I thought it needed the Andis screws & bracket?
The blur blade can also be adjusted based on where you tighten the screws at. It cuts at a longer length if you tighten the screws with the blade fully opened and not zero gapped
If you get the Philthyblendz Andis cam follower, and attach the ceramic blade set up with the all new crunch blur guard blade, you’ll get another set up for a modern day phat master. Give it a try and let me know what you think as I love it. I got a stretch bracket as well for extra throw
You can probably get a more accurate measurement if you rest the inside flat part of the caliper on the flat side of the still blade right above the cutting blade
@@thewoodshedbarber hey will you review the new blur blade “crunch blade” I’m interested in one of these tools but don’t want to mod my JRL’s for the phat master if that new blur blade does something similar. I want to use it for kids hair cuts and people that come in and just want a “shape up”
Thank you for doing this video, and for the analysis. It helped confirm for me that the one I would buy is the Blur Guard, especially the last comparison. Unfortunately @FaTaL1h below has said version 2 is coming out so I'll hold off and see what that's like. Much appreciated.
@thewoodshedbarber I'm still relatively a new barber and I can admit it lol so I'm still learning and I feel this skips key steps in my haircuts that I'm not strong enough with at this point feel Me Matt lolll
Blur just dropped the news on Instagram: Blur Metal 2.0 is coming, and it's basically a Phat Master with Wahl-style brackets.
I'm getting the new blur and phatmaster when they drop
They’re keeping me working
@@MrDubb5 I Just ordered Crunch blades from Blur.

Facts my friend. I appreciate your comment
Can we get a conversion video on the reVite with the phat blade? Curious if I can get one clipper to do it all fade, taper and phat blade.
Will do that soon!

Yeah man that’s the only hold up
What do you think the measurement would be if you zero gap the blur blade? Or can you zero gap the blur blade?
Can you make a video on how to install the bracket for the phat masters to be put on the wahl clipper and how to install the extension lever??
I may just have to do that

Yeah I showed that in the comparison at the end. I showed the blade being pushed all the way forward before tightening. Then measured

Forgot to mention, I have it set up on a senior
it was difficult to choose a new trimmer, but because of you, I chose saber gold. I will receive it on Monday. longing!
It’s the best there is right now 💯
I have the black saber❤️🙏☺️
Cool video man
Thanks!
Love all of your contributions and insight where can I get the extend bracket for the whale sensor and is at floating lever
It is a floating lever and I would go to philthyblendz.com for all your Mod needs
You can probably get a more accurate measurement if you rest the inside flat part of the caliper on the flat side of the still blade right above the cutting blade
Yeah it’s finicky for sure

Not yet, it’s on a short list though

I think this kind of innovation is the future of barbering…. There will be a lot more to come
What cutting blade do you have on the seniors?
The Andis master cutting blade via Philthy blends cam follower
Have you tried the phat master on a stylecraft instinct by any chance?
I sure have, I love it
@@thewoodshedbarber cant wait to see a video on this as I've been trimming levers and etc to make it work, havent found a solid fix yet
Have you tried the blur blade with the stretch bracket?
I have, the last comparison was on the stretch bracket
you should measure blur blade with the stretch bracket.
I did towards the end of the video, it’s on the blue senior
Just got me a high bald fade and a hook part im feeling fresh to death 😂
A good cut makes you strut bro!!
TPOB taking the game over!!!!
He’s crushing it man!
At this point I think I'll jus pass on the blur blade I may try the phat master blade 1 day but probably not lolll
I understand that, it’s not for everyone, but it could be a game changer once you try it.
