I just wanted to clarify, if I was to purchase a new clipper. Trimmer & foil shaver would this be along the right track…? 1) Trimmer: JRL 2020T Fresh fade OR the Snap-fx(I mention this due to it coming with a charging stand & 2 spare batteries) 2) Clipper: Jrl Onyx, I love just how exceptional build quality looks & how quiet these are 3) Foil shaver: What would you recommend? The Babyliss fx02 perhaps/UV double foil? Your thoughts? 4) What in your opinion is the best Babyliss blade that should be used to change up the standard blade? Is it the GoldFx blade? The titanium 2.0 blade, the DLC 2.0 blade? Or the Graphite 2.0 blade? Thank you once again, sir.
What’s up Mr Clint. Just wanted to drop a few lines in appreciation of this comparison and well thought out review. You’re extremely informative and in a pleasant way, seem very trustworthy. I have a Gamma Protege and a Stylecraft Rebel, and while I like light clippers I couldn’t help but think that they ‘felt’ cheap but I figured going from Wahl I just wasn’t used to them and that that’s just how they are. I also have the JRL 2020c but never got the the trimmer due to questionable reviews but seeing you say that SC/Gamma are overpriced, yeah you’re right. Looking it form built POV I see exactly what you’re saying!
Nice review. U favor the Lopro over the Troll clipper? The woodshed barber said the exact opposite. I have the JBlends Troll n like the Tx fade blade it comes with. The lever doesn’t open as wide as my XO & Rebel but I didn’t even notice until I viewed this video. Also, what are the factors of having a thick cutting blade vs a thin one? Cause u sure r right, the blade on my Rebel is thinner compared to my other 2 clips. I think it may cut closer but it can bite me unoccasionally.
Thank you! The Troll might look exactly like the LoPROFX, but that’s where the similarities end. They really don’t compare. The BaByliss is twice the clipper in reality. - Better motor - Better metal cover - Better metal lever track - Better guards - Better charging cord/brick You gotta be careful with RUclips reviewers. You never know if they’re telling you the truth or if they’re just saying what they think their sponsor wants them to say. For anyone to say that the Troll is better than the LoPROFX is absolutely absurd. It’s nonsense. And if any reviewer is telling you that Stylecraft makes excellent products, I would take everything they say with a grain of salt. A thicker blade has less chance of getting brittle and bending or cracking. The blade on the Rebel/Boosted/Absolute Alpha is super thin because Gamma/Stylecraft cuts corners everywhere possible, to make production prices as low as possible. Then they market the hell out of everything and have the nerve to charge BaByliss prices for throwaway kids toys. Not surprised at all that it bites you occasionally.
Appreciate the detailed explanation. Makes sense. What are your favorite go to clipper guards? I have the SC dubs that came with the Rebel, TPOB premiums (black) that come with the XO, the flimsy TPOB green ones that came with the Troll, & I brought the babyliss premiums separately. Was wondering if I should cop the wahl premiums too or if it’s not necessary cause I have the babyliss & TPOB premiums.
@@justcryHavokI like both from BaByliss (standard and premium) and both from Wahl (standard and premium). Since you have the BaByliss premiums, I don’t suggest getting the Wahl’s. The BaByliss guards are just as nice.
Thanks a lot for your video, mate. I do feel these 2 clippers are amazing and the "new" versions (FxOne and Onyx) should mean improvements. However, when it comes to money for business, I usually prefer to go a little bit behind the hype. Not having the latest product means cheaper parts for prior models :) Finally, between these 2 clippers, I'd pick the Babyliss because to me it feels more ergonomic and balanced
I recently found your channel and subscribed immediately. Your detailed, unbiased, honest reviews are very much appreciated. Wishing you much success in 2024!
I’d say the BaByliss would probably survive a drop over the JRL. I don’t think either would do very well though… just like most other clippers and trimmers. Most of them would break from a waist down drop. Therefore, I wouldn’t buy any of them based on this metric. Servicing or cleaning either of them is easy/equal.
i think the reason why it doesn’t show that its 7200 rpm or closer is because its way quieter compared to other clippers like wahl seniors, when testing rpms on clippers most of the time its based on the sound, but since its quiet, it wont pick up the sound to compute the rpm
Nice. I feel like you have the most honest reviews on RUclips... I have both the JRL 2020c gold and a gold LOPRO. I gotta say I love the JRL a lot more. Thing is so freakin quiet (I actually had another barber ask if it was even on when I was giving a cut) and I love the click lever, its super smooth, and I like how it opens like a stretch bracket. (yeah, youtube academy shits on everything except stylecraft) (the most untrust worthy source for reviews) I've heard of people using the slower speed for detailing and ive tried it.... hard to say if it is better or worth it, and just always using the higher speed. I also have a Stylecraft Alpha and the thing is kinda junk. It sounds like its gonna die all the time. Not a big fan of Stylecraft. I am a fan of TPOB. I really don't pick up my lopro's that often. I have them zero gapped and with the fade blade its good for taking out lines.... but the click lever feels like junk compared to the JRL. Big JRL fan and am definitely gonna get the ONYNX one of these days thanks for your honest and detailed work Sir!
I really appreciate the kind words bro! I can see why you like the JRL more. It’s amazing to think there’s anything out there better than the 2020C, but he Onyx definitely is. I’d be interested in hearing your take when you get one. Thanks again for the message.
Haha!! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m not interested in the XO clipper or trimmer. Nothing against TPOB, but I already reviewed the Cocco Hyper Veloce trimmer (Which is where the XO came from), and I hated it. The TPOB X trimmer (Which is the Cocco BLDC) is where it’s at in my eyes. And… The LoPROFX trimmer and clipper are miles better than the XO trimmer and clipper. They’re two of the best barber tools ever created, right next to the JRL.
@@ReneeCarawayI try and cover everything so that you don’t have to search everywhere to find what you need to hear. If you’re considering getting anything new, I can’t stress it enough… JRL and BaByliss make the best products. The 2020C isn’t heavy at all and I think you’d love it. The Wahl Magic Clip is another standout in the lightweight category. It’s excellent. The Boosted/Rebel are light too, but as you saw in the video… Gamma/Stylecraft is one of the worst manufacturers on the planet in reality. Caliber Pro and 4MAS are the only companies that are lower. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!
The Instinct is the #1 most problematic clipper ever sold, coming from one of the worst manufacturers I can name. It’s an overhyped kids toy, and a $40 Wahl clipper from Walmart is a better recommendation. I highly recommend staying away from the Instinct and Instinct X. They’re lightweight because they’re extremely low quality… just like everything else Stylecraft sells.
Awesome, Ricky!!! The RUclipsrs are definitely misleading millions of people to think Stylecraft and Gamma are the best. The Boosted is pretty terrible. If you’re trying to go upwards from the Influencer LoPROFX… your only options are: 1. FXOne LoPROFX 2. JRL Onyx 3. One of the Oster detachables (Classic 76, Octane, Titan, etc) What you have is one of the best clippers ever made.
Clint I have no idea how to contact you I got the babylist Fx one set but it doesn't come with a station that the units( clippers trimmers sit in) I thought I seen the base on your page somewhere if I did could you please share where you got the stand. Thank you Good Sir.
highly detailed clipper review, best one i've seen yet. loved how you weighed each product. weight of a clipper is crucial for me. Thank you for that also is there any difference between the blackout tpob trolls to the lime green ones that you have?
Thank you for the kind words. These videos are a ton of work, so seeing comments like this makes it all worthwhile. The blackout Troll comes with a stand, different guards, and the XO blade which is different than the TX blade. I personally found too many issues with the Troll that I don’t think I’m going to release my full review of it. It doesn’t do very well for so many reasons. It might look like the BaByliss LoPROFX, but that’s the extent of it. If you’re looking for something around $100, I would get the LoPROFX right now for $99 before they sell out. The other top options for that price range are the Wahl Senior and Magic Clip. Both are no more than $120 and they’ve been the gold standard forever for a reason. I highly recommend all three with the LoPROFX being the king.
Thank you! yea i have a feeling that a lot of people are paid to say good things about the TPOB. Unfortunately i bought it last week, haven't used it yet but from the videos i have seen it seems like people are either sent the clipper for free or paid to test it. Which is not a good sign. @@clintmallon
@@HeismvnMy pleasure. What I will tell you is the X trimmer is absolutely world class. Easily in my top five, and for the price… it’s top two. If you’re looking for a trimmer, check out my website. It’ll tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know: clintmallon.com/best-hair-trimmers I would return the Troll and get the LoPROFX for $99. It’s twice the machine. Enjoying the content so far! I agree with how useless an unboxing can be lol! But maybe some people get a kick out those? I’d rather just see an informative review.
Dude I love ❤️ you 🤣 like best barber reviews of all time thank you as someone who cuts 5 days a week at a very busy shop. I just bought the instinct from stylecraft and then after i bought it for over $200 I just saw videos on RUclips of it exploding 💥. Now I’m scared to lose a hand 🤚🏻 using it
The FXOne LoPROFX (the new Gray one) is only rivaled by the JRL Onyx. Those are the best two adjustable clippers on the market. The original LoPROFX (The blue one in this video) is definitely a better machine than a cordless Wahl Senior. I put this LoPROFX at #3 or #4, with the Senior somewhere in the top 10. Both have plenty of power to cut through bulk with zero problems. Depending on where you adjust the top blade on the LoPROFX or Senior (or any clipper for that matter), they will both cut as close as you zero gap them. Just be careful zero gapping a clipper. I don’t like doing it because it can make the guards rattle. I always leave my clippers the way they come in the box. If you’re asking which one I like more… Clearly, I think BaByliss and JRL are the kings across the board. Those are the only two brands that are getting my money from this point forward. Please check this article out to learn more: clintmallon.com/trimmer-clipper-brands
This is why honesty is key with youtube review videos. Thanks for the real proven advice. I cut my own hair (gotten decently good at it with 2 mirrors) and have always had a Wahl from big box stores (they always started rusting/breaking down on me after just a year or so), but now i'm definitely eager to get the new JRL Onyx!
Thank you! Helping people and making people happy is what it’s all about! If you ever have questions, please feel free to ask. I’m here to help! Merry Christmas!
Hi Clint, I am writing to you from Chile South America, I really like your content. Have you considered reviewing Chinese hair clippers such as the kemei, vgr, wmark or madeshow brands? greetings, be well!
I just bought the gamma boosted and sent it back because like you said once i unboxed it i can tell it was cheaply made and super loud. I was not pleased with the quality so I sent them back.
Haha!! I want to know the truth! People come here to figure out which “ONE” clipper and trimmer they should purchase. Most people don’t have $1000 to blow on five different tools. Trying to figure out who to believe on RUclips is what made me create this channel in the first place. I believed the hype, and it took me a really long time (and a ton of money) to realize what’s real and what’s fake. My only goal is to make that decision crystal clear for the people who are in the exact same boat as I was when I started.
Haha! There’s nothing else to review when it comes to clippers and trimmers if we’re looking for the best. BaByliss LoPROFX clipper and trimmer, and the JRL 2020T, 2020C, and ONYX. Everything else is just noise.
@@clintmallon Holy shit you responded much appreciated! I just wanted to say your content has been great I purchased the Supreme Vader trimmer because of you and they've been awesome! I know your content is primarily based on reviewing the best of the best but its kinda unfortunate because we reach sorta a dead end of whats available to us product wise and I enjoy your style of videos so I hope new products come out! Also side question, whats your opinion on the rising popularity of chinese clippers/trimmers from aliexpress etc? Thanks man!
checked out lopro fx today in a store. it knows very loud noise. but incredibly small and good in the hand. I was thinking of buying it but thought it was very loud unlike my wahl gold edition.
Someone may have dropped it, who knows. Don’t go by what you hear in a store on a demo model. It’s a very quiet clipper and it’s way better than the Wahl.
@@clintmallon it was brand new in the store. I'm thinking of changing my wahl because it doesn't have click level. it feels much safer with klick level. what do you think? click level or without? is babyliss fxpro a better machine for fade than wahl do you think?
I like the click lever more than a floating lever. That’s just personal preference. The LoPROFX is top 4 clippers ever created. I love it and if you finished the video, it’s a 9.5/10. Definitely better than anything Wahl sells and it’s excellent for fading and bulk removal. Like I said, top 4 of all time. Please watch the whole video because I explain all your questions in detail.
@@clintmallon I have watched all your videos over and over and am waiting for more videos from you. i like your channel! the disadvantage of mes babyliss is that they weigh a lot. but quality usually weighs.
Thank you! Those will be next. I have a lot going on right now and these videos take about 10-12hrs for each of them, so bear with me. I appreciate you.
Don't you think that the lever just goes where it goes, does it translate to open not being as open (in mm) you'd have to measure it. But if you do and it's the same that just means fully open is a different angle on the lever. If anything fully open on a smaller angle is more efficient for your finger.
I see what you’re saying. But the BaByliss definitely opens further than most. We’re talking mm’s here regarding the clicks and the guards. A mm here or there is important. I found that with the BaByliss, fully closed to fully open, translates to a one guard going from 1.0-1.9 so that the two guard can take it from there. Other clippers with a shorter throw might go from 1.0-1.7 (or 1.8) making the transition from guard to guard more difficult. Great question and thank you for watching.
There’s no comparison between the two. The JRL Onyx is way better than the Ergo and the X-Ergo. Those aren’t even in the top 5 while the Onyx is top 2.
I love your reviews, but I don't see the subscribe button here, strange... Is it possible because I'm in Iraq (different zone or some other stupid reason?). Thank you for your good work...
Not a stupid question. I’m not sure but I really appreciate the kind words! If you go to my channel homepage, there should be a subscribe button there.
@@clintmallon my pleasure... Done, liked and subscribed and notification button pressed :)... Please keep the honest reviews coming... Appreciate your work man...
Is the motor in the LoProFX the same as the one in the GoldFX clipper? Also, please make the music you add to your videos the same loudness as your speech, as I noticed the music usually way too loud than your vocal track.
Hey! Thanks for the feedback. I’ll fix that on the next video. No the motor isn’t the same. The GoldFX is brushless like the LoPROFX, but it’s a little more powerful. Regardless, I have a SilverFX and a Boost+, and I don’t like them anywhere near as much as the LoPROFX. They cut the same but the LoPROFX just feels better in my hands.
@@clintmallon Yeah the GoldFX (my barber use it) too bulky, specially if someone trying to do it himself. I've seen a video for someone working for Babyliss said with the LoProFX they wanted to grab the customers how likes the quality of Babyliss but doesn't prefer the shape of the GoldFX. I think they did excellent job with that.

I had the jrl trimmer and I found it harder it to trim around the ears because of the thick body and it started smoking the first week I had it. Probably got a bad one I guess
I will agree that the neck is a little too thick compared to a lot of my other favorites. However, it does everything else better than everything else in my opinion. I like it more than the FXOne LoPROFX, Cyborg, and Saber. I have had four 2020T’s so far, and none of them have started smoking or sounded any different from the last one. I definitely think you got a bad one. It can happen with any product. Thanks for watching!
Ok so here’s my take on SC/gamma do they have problems yes they do but they are great with their warranties only problem I’ve had with SC/gamma is the lever bracket being loose but that’s after installing the stretch bracket so I recently took them off all my machines and things have been just fine.. the saber trimmers are my go to for edge ups very dependable very precise just got the low pro fx can’t wait to use it I have the jRL 2020c and 2020 and I will say once you gap the trimmer 🔥🔥🔥
Great feedback right there! My biggest issue with Gamma/Stylecraft is all the RUclipsrs overhyping them for monetary gain, instead of telling viewers the truth. If they simply said “Stylecraft is paying me for this review and it’s my job to tell you why I like them…” that would be commendable in my opinion. The problem is, they’re not doing that which is misleading to novice and intermediate barbers doing their research trying to find the best tools. Telling people Stylecraft is the best while JRL, BaByliss, and TPOB aren’t as good is flat out wrong. Stylecraft is not the best, the quality of their products is extraordinarily low, and they are middle of the line at best in reality. TPOB sells much higher quality products than Stylecraft for half the price. I find that doing barber product research on RUclips is a pretty nasty space because most of the stuff you hear is hidden behind a greedy smokescreen. Most of it isn’t real. The only purpose of my channel is to help people by providing the public with a resource that’s doing the exact opposite of what I found on RUclips while doing my initial research. I made so many mistakes following their advice and kept searching until I fully understood the truth. Thank you for watching.
No need. Nobody should be zero gapping a clipper. It makes the guards rattle and there’s no reason to do it. Use the corner of the clipper with the lever shut to remove the bald line.
Thank you for watching. I will not be doing the Instinct since it’s the #1 most problematic clipper and trimmer ever created. Truly a terribly made device. I don’t recommend it to anyone and don’t like Stylecraft products enough to spend my time reviewing any of them anymore. I have purchased eight products from them and they’re all pretty terrible aside from the Rebel Trimmer. Since you’re a new barber, I’ll help you out by telling you that the only five brands you should look at are these: 1. BaByliss (clippers and trimmers) 2. JRL (clippers and trimmers) 3. Oster (detachable clippers only) 4. TPOB (trimmers only) 5. Wahl (clippers only)

@@LMD-27If you actually watched this video, you would know that the LoPROFX is less expensive than a Magic Clip and a Senior. Why not watch it instead of asking me to review more expensive products, since price is obviously a concern of yours?
@@clintmallon I know, but they are not available in my country. There are only Wahl and babyliss clippers They are the best option right now. If I agree to buy Lo Pro or Jrl, I must buy them from Amazon with shipping fees from America, except Morocco. I will become poor. 😂
@@LMD-27I understand. Between Wahl and BaByliss, I like BaByliss. If you can’t get a BaByliss, the Magic Clip and Senior are both excellent clippers. You can’t go wrong with any of them.
Great video, And I totally agree with you on stylecraft/gamma (straight trash!). BUT TPOB deserves to be number two to the JRL’s. The LOPRO’s do have a longer stretch than the Trolls. But the Trolls still has a more premium feel to it. And yeah an interchangeable battery and longer stretch lever is awesome, but if TPOB did the same with the Trolls I know it would still have a more premium feel than the LOPRO FXone’s. I have almost all the clippers that TPOB so call copies, and the TPOB clipper is better and cheaper… I ain’t dick riding (pause), just giving my honest opinion.
The customer service from TPOB is shocking. I’ve had 4 clippers from them and had issues with every one. As for their customer service… shocking. Due to this I would never buy anything from them again.
Bro, babyliss is owned by conair, I think your fanning out over the name. The JrL is way better than that basic lopro. All these machines, are off the same wheel, no new spokes. Some stylecraft gamma machines have more power, babyliss clippers are super loud, and the aesthetics fade super fast.
I used the JRL 2020C for a year. It's an overrated Clipper in my opinion. Pros 4 hour run time Quietest clipper at its release time Lightweight Cons When you zero gap the clipper it makes the guards rattle in the closed position It started to snag my hair after a year. The ergonomics of the clipper is garbage, the shape isn't ideal. It's very slippery as well. I sold my JRL and got the style craft rogue. So far so good but I'll do a review after a year.
When you zero gap any clipper, the guards will rattle. That will happen with any of them. There’s no way around it. 🤷♂️ Zero gapping a trimmer makes sense, but you should never fully zero gap a clipper. If you would have left it alone out of the box, it probably wouldn’t snag. Mine cuts like butter. It’s better at mowing through bulk than just about anything out there. The Onyx is even better. I hear you regarding the rest. I’m surprised you like the Rogue. I have a Stylecraft Ergo and Gamma X-Ergo, and I don’t like them at all. Magnetic motors have no torque and the ergonomics of them aren’t ideal for me. I guess that’s why they say “That’s what makes the world go round.” Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing!
@@clintmallon I adjust the blade so it's easier to remove the bald line. We all have our opinions and yours is valid. The rogue so far has been working great but I've been using it for a couple months. Happy holidays and merry Christmas.

Thanks a lot for your video, mate. I do feel these 2 clippers are amazing and the "new" versions (FxOne and Onyx) should mean improvements. However, when it comes to money for business, I usually prefer to go a little bit behind the hype.
Not having the latest product means cheaper parts for prior models :)
Finally, between these 2 clippers, I'd pick the Babyliss because to me it feels more ergonomic and balanced
I recently found your channel and subscribed immediately. Your detailed, unbiased, honest reviews are very much appreciated. Wishing you much success in 2024!
Awesome, thank you!
Out of these 2, in your opinion, which would suffer less from a drop test?
Which would be easy to service/deep clean?
I’d say the BaByliss would probably survive a drop over the JRL. I don’t think either would do very well though… just like most other clippers and trimmers. Most of them would break from a waist down drop. Therefore, I wouldn’t buy any of them based on this metric.
Servicing or cleaning either of them is easy/equal.
i think the reason why it doesn’t show that its 7200 rpm or closer is because its way quieter compared to other clippers like wahl seniors, when testing rpms on clippers most of the time its based on the sound, but since its quiet, it wont pick up the sound to compute the rpm
Good point
Big JRL fan and am definitely gonna get the ONYNX one of these days
thanks for your honest and detailed work Sir!
I really appreciate the kind words bro! I can see why you like the JRL more. It’s amazing to think there’s anything out there better than the 2020C, but he Onyx definitely is. I’d be interested in hearing your take when you get one. Thanks again for the message.
Will you be doing any reviews on tpob machines? Like the x xo play etc?
Thank you for this. I need a JRL ONYX/2020t vs TPOB XO review. Clippers and trimmers.
Clint, how did you get into clippers and trimmers? Very detailed reviews, thanks.
Just something I’ve always enjoyed. I started cutting hair when I was 14 and love comparing products.
My pleasure buddy. Happy New Year!
@@clintmallon as a apprentice barber, the non bias reviews are refreshing. Keep doing your thing.
How heavy is the JRL? I prefer a lightweight clipper-like, even the Magic Clip seems a little heavy to me.
Looks like I asked that a little too soon.
Better quiet than heavy for 200$
@@ReneeCarawayI try and cover everything so that you don’t have to search everywhere to find what you need to hear.
Get the Instincts. They’re lightweight if you don’t like heavy clippers.
Was so close to upgrading my yellow influencer for gamma boosted until this video🤣🙌🏼🔥 thank you very much
Awesome, Ricky!!! The RUclipsrs are definitely misleading millions of people to think Stylecraft and Gamma are the best. The Boosted is pretty terrible. If you’re trying to go upwards from the Influencer LoPROFX… your only options are:
1. FXOne LoPROFX
2. JRL Onyx
3. One of the Oster detachables (Classic 76, Octane, Titan, etc)
What you have is one of the best clippers ever made.

The FXOne models don’t have a stand that you can buy.
highly detailed clipper review, best one i've seen yet. loved how you weighed each product. weight of a clipper is crucial for me.

What cuts closer to the skin babyliss low pro fx1 are Wahl Senior cordless? An which one has more power for cutting bulk hair
If you’re asking which one I like more…
Clearly, I think BaByliss and JRL are the kings across the board. Those are the only two brands that are getting my money from this point forward.

Haha!! I want to know the truth! People come here to figure out which “ONE” clipper and trimmer they should purchase. Most people don’t have $1000 to blow on five different tools. Trying to figure out who to believe on RUclips is what made me create this channel in the first place.

you said something very good at the end of the video. 95-97 percent of all clippers or trimmers will basically do exactly the same job.
checked out lopro fx today in a store. it knows very loud noise. but incredibly small and good in the hand.
Wahl’s have been crap lately, not lasting. just bought lo pro not loud at all works great
Like the vids, any chance you can review the fx one lines.
Great question and thank you for watching.
what’s better the jrl onyx or gamma ergos ?
There’s no comparison between the two. The JRL Onyx is way better than the Ergo and the X-Ergo. Those aren’t even in the top 5 while the Onyx is top 2.

I like it more than the FXOne LoPROFX, Cyborg, and Saber.
I have had four 2020T’s so far, and none of them have started smoking or sounded any different from the last one. I definitely think you got a bad one. It can happen with any product.

Great video,
And I totally agree with you on stylecraft/gamma (straight trash!).

I used the JRL 2020C for a year. It's an overrated Clipper in my opinion.
Pros
4 hour run time
Quietest clipper at its release time
Lightweight
Cons
When you zero gap the clipper it makes the guards rattle in the closed position
It started to snag my hair after a year.
Zero gapping a trimmer makes sense, but you should never fully zero gap a clipper.
I guess that’s why they say “That’s what makes the world go round.”
Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing!
