      Same here. Uplifting and motivating and makes me want to plant plant plant! Start each day with my cup of coffee, sitting outside on my back porch, and watching Laura do her thing on Garden Answer (& learning a lot as I do).

    I really love that you see beauty in all the shapes and textures of various evergreens. I have always been pretty narrow in what I like, which is typically Christmas tree shapes. You have opened up my mind to appreciating lots of other types of evergreens. Thank you!

    Beautiful work you and Aaron are doing to your property! Adding new trees always adds a new dimension to your landscape. Plus the birds and animals have homes to hide in during the winter.

    The transformation of this area is nothing short of remarkable. I’m so glad you mentioned Cheddar, I’ve been wondering if he was ok. Your videos are part of my morning routine. I get my one cup of coffee for the day & claim my favorite seat on the deck or our living room & settle in to watch your video. My husband calls you my garden girl, he wouldn’t know you by sight but definitely knows your voice.😉

    So, so amazing to see what you guys have accomplished. I'm always impressed when Laura gets that shovel out and jumps on it with both feet like riding a Pogo stick, LOL. Most people would be tumbling on the ground if they tried that :) Keep on keeping on. Love what you do as a family.

      I noticed it too. The compost mulch has contributed hugely to improving the soil structure. Must be immensely satisfying when preparing to transplant. The biotone is also probably working its magic creating a beneficial symbiotic relationship as the gardens’ roots establish.
      I wonder if Laura is noticing a build up of mycelia when prepping for transplant… it really is a joy to witness their property’s transformation.

    Nothing like an evergreen tree or shrub to ground a garden. Even here in New England where I am surrounded by white pines, etc., still love a good evergreen in a garden! Love watching your little fur babies making a cameo, Russell is so sweet❤😊

    I often think the same about my lillies, but they are so beautiful and provide such an enjoyable site that I continue to leave them..for years, and they continue to bring me joy. Give your lillies a chance, let them make you happy.

    I love the low junipers ! I carved mine into alligator shapes to approach my dry river bed garden to create the visual pun of “alligators in the moat “.🐊🌊🐊

    All of the views of your garden are beautiful & know how hard you work to keep all thriving well. You are so knowledgeable and consider you to be on the level of a horticulturist.     Being from western Canada I’m definitely partial to evergreens but my eyes went to all of your butterfly bushes. I’m going to review the various videos you have. It’s time to plant more of those.
    Everything in the south garden is looking glorious….so much colour and contrast!

    It will be glorious this winter. Looking forward to seeing the winter landscape. I agree about Daylilies, after beautiful blooming and accenting another plant, I had to dig up and hide until I need it next year. But easy for me, as it was only 1 😀

    You can cut the daylilies to the ground after blooming and the foliage will be fresh and green for the rest of the season.

    Laura and Aaron, I can't express how much I admire everything that you've done with a virtually blank slate. Sharing with us is very appreciated. You said recently that you were looking for ideas for th middle of the middle of the cut flower garden. What do you think about a flagstone medallion or mosaic of the Garden Answer logo with a large birdbath in the middle so it doesn't obstruct the view? Maybe something like the tall, slender planter at the side of your house with the white plants in it? Thank you for inspiring me every day!

    wow, your humidity is perfect..we have been having terrible 84 temp with 96 % humidity and absolutely NO wind!! Just opening the front door feels like walking into a steam room. My glasses fog instantly in it, car windows, house windows. we couldn’t see through any of them for days in a row. So grateful last week is behind us and getting more comfortable for a while anyway. The worst part is now have to water all trees from no rain. Ugh! It’s been quite a year for ❤
    ..So glad you guys have a pond to get wet in now! Your oasis in the desert is very nice.

    Anout your lilies! Around here when they start looking ratty we cut them back to about 2 inches. The push new foliage and look great! If they’re rebloomers they sometimes push new blooms. We live in the same zone as you.

    Oh my,what a view you have in your gardens. 😮 If I lived in one of the houses next to the south garden, I would build a little sitting area on top of my house just to see all the beauty that surrounds your gardens. Your gardens are beautiful and magical!!

    Love the evergreens you planted. I am STRUGGLING with my Day Lilies. I love when they start to bloom and as soon as they start turning brown I don’t like the look. I try cleaning the brown stems out but it’s a lot of work, I am close to digging them all out and putting something else in their place!

    I never thought of planting evergreens till you showed us how many different shapes and sizes there are, I need small trees and you have given me so many ideas! Thank you 😊 I agree with you on the lillies, I have so many Stella Doro lillies and I like them in the spring and when they bloom but after that not so much. I'm going to remove them this fall and hopefully I can get an evergreen to replace them!! Have a wonderful gardening day 😊

    I'm so happy to hear someone else say that about daylilies! The foliage is at its worst when the blooms are at their best and you've given me the nudge to rip mine out. LOL

      We removed ours just last week. I felt terrible because they were healthy, but just too messy for our garden. We'll plant something that stays pretty all season in it's place, then I will feel better about removing them.

      In the SE they can be cut to the ground and will put up fresh foliage.

      @@charleneh8374 when they finish blooming. I remove the spent blooms regularly and when a plant has stopped blooming I cut it back. They put out new growth after flowering anyway so this is the best time to “refresh” them.

    Boy, your arbs are looking so good in the South Garden. They are growing tall! Speaking of humidity, we hit over 112° last week in MN, and the humidity was out of sweaty control!🥵 This week will be much better. As a matter of fact, on Sunday, we woke up to morning temps in the 50s!♡

    Love the conifers. You are so lucky to have a source for such high quality and unique stock. You could use many more for that year round interest. Would love to see several more of the grey blue low growing juniper you pointed out in other places. Wouldn't one be stunning near your new pond. I have used conifers in the past but sadly the little garden space i have now is not suitable 🥲. Sorry you are having a North Carolina morning...reasonable temperature but horrible humidity. Keep planting! Susan
