@MrFlashjet- The Heathrow Airport Archive. Thank you David. It felt kind of personal in a weird way; like attending a funeral almost. Glad I managed to get it on film......
@@HeathrowAircraft I liked how they DIDN'T do a wave. Full respect to the crew, it is NOT anything like a celebration and I hope the last 8 go in the same sombre way.
I had the pleasure of flying G-CIVD to Miami in 2015 had great flight on it as well. Came back also last year from Miami on G-CIVE. Still heartbroken about BA 747s being retired early. RIP B747 400s and thanks for the great memories 😪
Watching the feed from Manchester this morning and how Virgin sent one of their 747's off , what a difference that was , stopping for photos , wing wave , lets hope BA does something when the last of their fleet retires , although going by their press releases i doubt it
Cant imagine flying syd-lhr in single aisle aircraft.used to keep me sane having a few slow laps during the night or standing down the back stretching my legs.
@HeathrowAviationLIVE Thank you for watching. Yes very sad that there is so little in the way of a proper send off - unlike say Qantas. Real shame ....
A very sad day a true work horse and most definitely the one and only queen of the skies!! RIP G-CIVD😢😢 will miss the distinct whine of those RB211 524 H-T Engines. Good old coal burners!!
I flew on G-CIVD back in January when I was flying home with my family from Cape Town to London. I have footage of that flight, but I won't upload it for many years in order to try to protect my identity. I also have some photos of the plane from right after we landed at Heathrow. I will never forget that flight. There were many problems with the plane. The IT system wasn't working, and this meant that none of the video screens were working, which left us to use our iPhones and iPads. There was also a baby who was crying before takeoff, and this made us irritated. The baby cried even harder and even louder after landing, and a woman shouted at the parents. (I think that she was German or something because of her accent, I couldn't really tell but my mum could) The flight was a New Years' flight, and it was really bad. What I didn't know, however, was that something was going awry in Wuhan and all of our holidays for the rest of 2020 would be cancelled, and that a couple of months after, the plane that we flew on would be retired from the British Airways fleet. What I also didn't know was that it would be the very last time in my entire life that me and my family would ever fly on a 747. The flight number was BA042. Were any of you on this flight? Please let me know. Thank you. I will miss you 747. You played a key part of my childhood. You flew to New York before 9/11. You flew to Hong Kong before we gave it back to China in 1997. In July, I thought that 2020 could not get any worse, but then I heard the news that British Airways was retiring all of their 747s because they had nowhere to go due to the current ongoing coronavirus pandemic. I was devastated. I thought I was dreaming. But I wasn't. This was a reality. You played a key part in the history of British Airways and they would definitely not be the same without you. Your so sudden retirement without warning has touched the hearts of everyone at British Airways. That includes all cabin crew, all customers, and all dedicated customers as well, like me and my family. You shouldn't be flying to Castellon to be scrapped to parts or go to another airline. You should be put on display at Heathrow for everyone to see so that you will be remembered for decades to come. I will miss flying on you to Cape Town, Dubai, and back to London from New York. British Airways had more of you and they cared for you more than any other airline did for their 747s before they retired them. I will never forget you. "You were good, son. Real good. Maybe even the best." (Soldier quote from TF2) Goodbye, old girl. You will be missed.
If only BAW and VIR, not only two of UK’s 🇬🇧 most dominant commercial airliners, but Jumbo Jet carriers would purchase the 748s to replace the aging 744s. This will most definitely be a tough one to swallow, especially with both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic being the primary customers of the 747-400s.
@@HeathrowAircraft exactly! It was an unceremonious end too really - due to restrictions, all the fanfare that would have usually gone with it just wasn’t there. The question is, we’ve lost both flagship aircraft of my generation, what will be the next poster boy plane of BA? I just can’t see others filling the role in the way Concorde or the 747 did. They weren’t just planes, they were part of BAs image.
@@AnthonyFurnival Yes you’re absolutely right. I wonder if it is the A350 - as I see that featured in the recent BA advert on TV? Maybe we’ll be lamenting the demise of the A350 and 787 in 25 years time - strange thought isn’t it 🤣
@@HeathrowAircraft I think you are probably right in that they’ll use the A350 in this role but I’m not too sure it’ll attract the same amount of passion from the aviation fans - problem with all the new planes is that they are much and much alike in the sense that they lack the uniqueness of the 747 and it’s hump or being supersonic like Concorde. I just don’t feel they have the personalities of the older places like Concorde, the Comet, the DC-10, 707, 727, 747 etc - I’d love to be proven wrong but I can’t say I’m over excited for the future of civil aviation… there’s just nothing out there which excites me in terms of newer planes.
@@AnthonyFurnival I agree with you. Having said that, I’m planning a Planespotting trip to LHR soon - even if it will only be a sea of twin jets there 😂
A sad announcement but BA are only interested in their balance sheet. They axed Concorde (too early!) and lost a worthy flagship. They’ve now made their fleet far less interesting by removing the iconic ‘jumbo’. Sad times, covid has a lot to answer for. :-(
I was lucky enough to crew on her many times in my career with BA during the good times. I am retired as well now so it looks like us dinosaurs are all disappearing from the skies.....I feel sorry for the cabin and flight crew...retrain or retire I guess.....
@Stephen Bland. It must feel very strange seeing something that was so linked to your job and career and lifestyle ending like this. But you’re not a dinosaur that’s for sure - nor were these lovely aircraft ....
@LEE AIR Videos. I agree with you but I have heard that they are not going to do anything. You’d hope that they would do something for the very last one to leave at least ?!
to scrap, to the junk, the destiny for a beatyfull aircraft like that is very sad....and that all because a virus....i don't believe it. they are some another reason....BYE BYE JUMBO
Still the most beautiful aircraft ever built!

I can't even imagine LHR without 747s
Me neither never be the same again
@British Airways Boeing 747-436 yes! They used to be everywhere in Heathrow! Much more boring without RB211s buzzing every idk every second lol
@British Airways Boeing 747-436 Sadly never to be flown again 😭
Very sad day with more to come it breaks my heart to see Concorde sitting there rotting away as well😔
Cant imagine flying syd-lhr in single aisle aircraft.used to keep me sane having a few slow laps during the night or standing down the back stretching my legs.
From a BA cabin crew point of you.... I am so so sad!!! We loved the jumbo. It’s the end of an era 😥
@Raffaella Alto. Yes - we should have had those extra few years to enjoy them and properly celebrate their eventual departure. Sad times ....😢
Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. Exactly! So so sad! I can’t believe I will not be flying on that aircraft ever again in my life 😢😢😢
I’ve flown on this aircraft so many times, it’s heartbreaking to know she’s gone forever. :(
Nik Siever I know. It doesn’t seem real somehow does it. Very very sad.
Sad day. Flown them so many times. Still the best. Had the privilege of flying both Concorde and the 747.
I wish that BA will have a 747 on display like they do with the Concorde.
For now it is just for sale / storage - NOT brakeup !! E-cube only have storage capacity at Castellon airport
It's a shame :( The Queen of the sky for forever
So sad. No fanfair. Thank you for getting this video, LHR will seem so empty without the Queen of the Skies.

Sad one man but excellent catch mate 👍
115,000 hours? 25 years? That is astonishing.
Thank you 747!
Really sad!!

How Dare So Many Airlines Are Getting Rid of the Queen Of The Sky’s!
Sad to see British airways 747 Final takeoff before retiring. The 747 will still remain the " Queen of the sky "
That poor Concorde needs some TLC. Should be put in an indoor museum like Manchester airport. Take note Heathrow!
DoubleD 1882 it is in Barbados, they built round Concorde at grantly adams.

I went on one of their first, BOAC to Johannesburg in 1972. Many more after that, Will miss them.☹️
Farewell G-CIVD, we will miss you.
She will live on in the hearts of the millions that have flown in her, myself included, on the LHR-JNB / LHR-CPT run and vice-versa.

And so it begins...
I will certainly miss these planes.
Really upset. I never flew on a 747

"Every good thing must come to end..." including the BA Queen of the Skies 😪
Thanks to this pandemic. She would of had a couple more years left :0(
There’s still another 6 Boeing 747s parked up in maintenance
Simon Small downn to three as i write
How very sad, goodbye old girl.
Nice view of Concorde to open and wonderful footage of the 747 - it’s actually quite sad to see them being flown to their deaths at a breakers yard 🥺

Ooooh what a beauty to start with! CONCORDE!!! Make sure to catch CIVB!
@Planes and Games. I will try! ✈️
Great video. Where was this filmed from please ?

I have a still of if from Premier Inn Terminal 5 this morning.
On stand.

Oh well have to fly Lufthansa 747-8.
No waving?
Another sad day another ba 747 no more.

I wonder if BA will offer any farewell flights on the 747 for enthusiasts? Qantas managed it and I’m sure they could easily fill a few Jumbos.

Sad day lol
