747 farewell: Final BA's 747 plane flight for early retirement as fans give social farewell

- The much-loved jumbo jets will eventually be broken down for spares, having seen its retirement brought forward by several years because of the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on British Airways.
The aircraft will head to Wales, joining the rest of the retired fleet.
The 'Queen of the Skies' has been involved in many iconic moments, in service from the 1970's to a recent flight from Dallas, including bringing home England's Rugby World Cup winning side in 2003 from Australia and New Zealand.

She will be forever in our hearts as one of the greatest aircraft in history.
Lovely plane. Its graceful design always makes it look smaller than it actually is.
David McAlpine Cunningham sounds like the perfect dress. But seriously, it's a beautiful aircraft and also a symbol of a glamorous and happier time in passenger aviation history.
Negus, Landor, and finally...Chatam
A sad day indeed. But a quick clarification: This is the last BA 747 from Heathrow. I'm sure other airlines will still fly 747s to LHR, especially cargo.
Oh thank goodness for that. I was worried that the 747 wouldn’t grace our skies for the rest of time.
@Defectiveresistor that is intresting. i dont know much about planes. so they remove the seats and change the inside to carry cargo instead of passengers. just goes to show there maybe more money in cargo than carrying passengers.
@Defectiveresistor Not likely, they've got the wrong engines. BA was pretty much the only carrier using RR. The scrapped parts will help keep other 747s flying for years to come.
That negus Livery is being preserved that one isn’t getting scrapped
@Jake Howie It didn't before. They corrected the title
i was lucky to be flown to london on the 747 first class in 2014. i will never forget it
This plane is going to be remembered just like the concord. Fare well British Airways Boeing 747
Very sad - my father flew these for CX, SQ, AF and Cargolux for over 20 years - magnificent aircraft
From the golden age of engineering in the 1950's and 60's, the Routemaster bus, Mini, 747, Concorde, E Type Jaguar. What a drab world we live in today.
Lufthansa has the 747-8 - so hopefully more years of flying possible!
Watch the 747-8 be scrapped before its 10 years old like the A380's.
I believe that the we can see the 747 even after 25 or 30 years Because the Air force one is a 747.
@@hulklovesaviation7535 that’s the US president.. they can make a special order for one plane
@@daztheman6059 That's the thing tho, the 747-8 probably won't as she isn't as fuel thirsty as the a380. However she will be going earlier I know that for sure
My favorite plane, really missed her. 🌹
I’ve flown London to Bangkok many many times in 747s as well as A380 and 777. In truth the 777 and A380 are nicer planes to fly in, but I will miss the 747 for the same reason I miss flying on a Lockheed Tristrars, because nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. Seriously though I always felt safe and comfortable on 747s. 747s will still fly passengers in other parts of the world for at least another 15 years, I travelled in a orient airways 747 once where the whole plane was economy class and I got to sit right at the front, that was an experience.
The most iconic plane after Concorde.
Oh how we have fallen 😢😢
747's lasted lot longer than the A380's ever will. Something about the 747's everyone loves.
Bil Pat I still prefer the A380, best flights I have ever been on. Sad to see these beauties stopping though.
But the A380 is far more comfortable to fly in even when compared with the B747-8
@@orangeblubber2181 True but.........it was always the whale which didn't have future compared to the queen
I'm gonna miss these beautiful planes :')
My first flight was onboard a British Airways 747 from Nrb to Heathrow. Goodbye Gracefull Queen.
A true Queen of the skies ✈️🇬🇧
why is she taking through the takeoff? So distracting from the iconic sound and a somber moment.
May god bless her in her retirement but what a beautiful plane
*Goodbye Queen of the Skies. I’ll miss the view from my room window when these beauties took of from Heathrow Runway 27R.*
Kim lived in London?
Wait Mr. Kim lived in London???
It's like watching the last voyage of the qe2 all over again
Cunard's QE2?
Glad I had a chance to fly on it.
Without the 747, British Airways is no longer British Airways. Without the British Airways 747, Heathrow is no longer Heathrow. By making this disgraceful decision, BA is now just another regular airline and Heathrow is just another regular airport. The aviation industry is becoming bland with small and uncomfortable twin jets and boring airline liveries. They are obsessed with cost cutting and have no respect for the true queen, the Queen of the Skies. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just sad about the whole situation and that this wonderful bird is going to be torn apart for scrap. I wish everyone the best.
Couldn’t say it best, I’m an aviation fan myself and I was devastated when I heard Air France is cutting away from the A380. Now BA is doing the same with their 747’s. I will not fly on another Airbus A320 or A319. They are uncomfortable and there is no life to them. Simply put they are boring aircraft and it seems we are going down a boring era of flying. Just as cars have somewhat become bland seems like our aircraft will too.
Similar to what happened to the trains
Glad I managed to fly a 747 on the top deck 2 times in my life... 747 is the queen of the sky...
I love airplanes this is sad
Such a beauty and really sad to see it go. A historical aircraft that has changed the way we see aviation. I’m glad I got to fly on the queen of the skies...
Queen of skys....
Bye bye 747s.
This didn't have to happen! Such a sad way to go!
Will miss these two beauties, such a sad day.✈🇬🇧
What a great plane and now just a memories now. I flew to Athens Greece on the British airways 747 as a young man it was a great treat and taught me there was more about the world than where I lived. My mother now has passed but I remember the great trip she booked for us and I’d like to thank all the staffers of Boeing and all the airlines staffers that flew the Queen of the skies that gave so many a life time of memories! Truly special!
A sad day in aviation
D.A. Jarrett one that had to come sooner or later unfortunately
What a sad day 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Farewell BA 747
This retirement had me in tears of sadness
This breaks my heart...
Aww, this sad!
Wish the weather had been better and Sky knew how to commentate better too!
Less talk esp when they were they were a out to take off! I love that sound of the engine as it goes up a notch, so thrilling, esp on this big beast!
Lucky to have flown on one back in the day (2003,) and I remember I did feel quite special being on it. It just had a whole different feel to it, even if I was at the back in a paupers seat! Lol
Totally agree, years ago I rushed home to watch a live broadcast of the Space Shuttle landing, didn't hear a single word from the crew because of the ceaseless yapping of the presenter.
@@williammalcolmsnape5531 ESP annoying when they are only trying to fill in the space anyway! Like shaddap and let us listen to the whole reason we are watching! lol
Sad to see them disappear into the fog, the weather over there was terrible for the occasion but quite fitting for the sadness of it. Did they do any special 'drawing' in the sky like we did when the last Qantas 747 left Sydney?
It’s so sad this plane graced our sky’s for so many years. I am a plane spotter so to see these go is really hard and upsetting.
Ben R “plane spotter” 😂😭
Tf is a plane spotter
Wait so the 747 will never fly again in the uk?
TheGalonator nope not for British airways
@@benr3161 oh but for other Airways it will right?
so sad to say goodbye to the Queen of the Skies
ICONIC!
Wish and hope to see Boeing come up with this magnificent queen in the sky again in the near future.
It’s a one hit wonder never again would we see another jumbo jet era
Defectiveresistor but no passenger aircraft
So sad, they transported round the world most of my working life
Farewell british airways 747, thanks for all those unforgettable memories down the years and for the incredible journey taking us around the world and please do say hi to our supersonic concorde... ✈ 👏😊
Bring Concorde back. Had enough
JustSaying Entertainment but can we afford to fly on it though apart from short trips around the UK....
This is sad, but the sadder part of this is that they're calling it a fricking jumbo jet
I don't mind 747s being called Jumbo Jets, but I don't like it if any other aircraft types get called that. For example, the press sometimes called DC 10s jumbo jets because of their wide body.
Crazy Leyland 510 I went on a DC10 a few years ago, was not impressed especially after been on it for nearly 10 hours
50kevind I've always thought a long flight in a wide body would be rather tedious, although 747s look amazing aircraft from the outside. Would a long flight on a 747 have been different to that on a DC 10? The nearest I've been, is on a 777 to Egypt in 1997.
I am a plane lover,
farewell best friend
Me too and I’m tearful seeing this ( I believed I was hardened -as a healthcare worker ) great happy times...goodbye beautiful xxx
So these planes are going to be finally broken down for spares. They should preserve them, ir at least one of them. Such a shame and a waste of British history.
My first flight on a 747 was PAN-AM to JFK in 1986 and my last was on BA to LHR in 2020 before someone pressed the world panic button!!!.
And two of BA's proudest flagships are gone...forever. The Concorde...and the 747
I enjoyed flying the 400 so much...many happy years
this is so emotional D:
The Rolls Royce of planes. End of an ERA
Rolls Royce DOES make the engines for the trans-Atlantic 747's.
It’s probably the best looking jet designed ever. However, in terms of comfort atleast in economy, it’s no where near as great to fly in as the A380...
Orange Blubber I’ve never been on a A380 so wouldn’t know. Then again I haven’t flown economy for about the last 18 years or so either. Usually do Virgin Upper Class flying out and Premium Economy coming back if I don’t manage to get a reward seat upgrade to Upper
Saw this land at Kemble earlier
Yeah, G-CIVB
I'm very sad. The Jumbo Jet is the king of the skyes. Farewell 747 from Colombia.
My personnel experience.. 747 Jumbo is the most safest plan and departure and landing is so smooth. It shown how well design of the aerodynamic of the plan itself.
What a sad day! 😢

@@contact3604 hi there us peaple who live in are beautiful country I've seen a few airlines disapear Britannia and danair maybe easyjet but are flagship British airways it's not fare well take care
Farewell to the 747's of BA. She is the Queen in the sky. Correction, it's actually the A380 that is the largest jets, King of the skies.
Agree, we still have the A380, and it's my personal favourite to fly on
@@mateenio2186 not for long😂
Dude the 747 was the largest and is the most beautiful quad jet. The a380 is awesome but not the king tho
Altho I preferred the A380, still a beauty. sad to see her go.
Scotish regional air // easyJet group even the 787 Dreamliner has way more comfortable seats.....
It’s was no raining it was the ski crying
Weldone great jpb indeed
I am BA crew but I fly shorthaul flights. Luckily I had the pleasure of flying in this beauty when I went to JFK as a passenger. I am sad that we, crew and pilots, cannot bid farewell at Heathrow, as most of us are still furloughed...
The reporter could try shutting up so we can hear as well as see the 747 take off.
The amazing 747 👍
It’s so sad
I'm glad they did it at echo golf lima Lima tho
Here's to the future. This is the stuff of dreams. What an engineering marvel. Well done BA and all involved. Just well done. Touch down.
its a boeing. BA purchased and operated the boeing 747 like a flying taxi service. And boeing are great at making planes when they're not trying to kill the passengers
Where all the staff waving goodbye, oooh hang on they been shafted and are now unemployed....
Ballshit u ain’t got a clue, they have been fucked up the arse in the sum of ten grand a year ,take the new contract or leave b.a as simple as that....
After more than 50 years in the Sky, it's sad to see the 747 aircraft come to an end today.
But with the coronavirus pandemic and how British Airways treats both its staff and customers.
It begs the question of how will the company improve moving forward.
Goodbye Queen of the Skies!
I sadly missed the last flight because I am not british :(, farewell 747 I am so sad right now
Wow
Where are they going to?
It hurts to write this but some are being scrapped and some are going to cargo operators
I've never been on one
They was lovey planes to see 747 two take off on the last flight so sad 8.10.2020
There are still plenty of 747’s in service. They won’t disappear from the skies
Probably about time.
Will there ever be anything that will ever be able to match the 747?
Legacy wise no.
I think they should preserve some parts of these aircraft, or even better, a whole plane. The reporter mentioned about the sheer height of a 747 on the ground. I've heard of 747 pilots describing taxiing a 747 as like driving a house from the attic.
I really liked the Negus livery. I didn't like the Landor though. It would be good if they could preserve one complete.
They do have a 747-8 on display somewhere in the U.S, don’t remember where tho
Queen of the skys, rip 😟
I’m so sad
So sad farewell 747 😪
Noo
747 gone, A380 gone the of some great aircrafts and many more will be going soon
What are they waffling about
over half the worlds population flew on the 747
Sad day last time shame
RIP Boeing 737 jumbo jet ana I know it’s the Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet it is what sky news put in their news article as they put Boeing 747 jumbo jet
One giant leap backwards for mankind. I was devastated when Concorde was retired, heartbroken when Vulcan 558 was grounded. Now I am just disgusted that these perfectively serviceable aircraft are going to be destroyed because of a virus with a 99% survival rate.
What happens when all the remaining little, uncomfortable aircraft become too uneconomic? Balloons, the Wright-flyer? Pathetic.
@Chris Greene Who said I don't care about people?!
The 747 brought international travel to the masses. 50 years later, decades of economic expansion later, more multi-billionaires than ever, stock markets and corporate profits at record highs yet the masses cannot afford flights, airliners and cruise ships head to the junkyard, tent cities and food banks are legion in the richest countries on Earth?
Our economic system has clearly benefited only a tiny number of oligarchs and plutocrats while the rest of us scrabble for crumbs off their table.
No, I don't care about people at all... Smh😒
I saw a little TAP :) :)
I hope an pray the military pick them up.!!
Please save a few newer ones so when traveling gets back to normal we can ride once again the 777x just isn't the same
Its a bit like pining for a steam train I suppose
Dam 🥺
Most dangerous plane
I agree infamous plane
What a sad day where will they keep them it's just not fare farewell jumbo
What 747 variant is this one?
-400
Well who started the race towards the bottom with ticket prices ... The low cost carriers killed it. People don't want to pay for comfort and speed ( Concorde ) anymore
What’s next the A320?
So many flights on this great 'plane. Sad to see it go. The 787 is awful.
Better turn out than when Kay Burley retires I bet
Is it a 747-800? Looks very “stretched”.
No, -400.
800 variant has different wingtips and engines. this is a 747-400
No this is the 400 series. The 800 is stretched even further making it actually the longest passenger aircraft in service. Shame only a few passenger variants were ever built. Mostly cargo
Is like a Transformer robot.
next cars.
