In July of 2004 I rode in the right seat of the EAA's Ford Tri-Motor. I shot some video.

My wife and I got to fly on the EAA's 1928 Ford Tri-motor at Grimes Field in Urbana, Ohio as part of our 5 year wedding anniversary. Our flight got cut short and only lasted 20 minutes because thunderstorms were moving into the area. It was still a very memorable flight that we will always cherish.

At 20 minutes that was probably close to the full flight experience. I usually describe the Tri-Motor ride as being much like the bus ride in the movie,"It Happened One Night".

There are a few more instruments outside on one of the wing struts.

Another GREAT video, Chuck, thanks! Who has not wondered what it was like to be in a Tri=Motor when it was under way. Like the Model T, the Tri-Motor looks like it was stripped to the essentials.

The first examples were open cockpit so the pilots could have a better understanding of the air around them.

That seemed like a short takeoff run, very cool footage.

The airplane leaves the ground very quickly, even with 10 souls aboard.

I got to fly in a Ford Tri-motor back in the early 70's with my Dad . It was at the Quad cities airport for it's 50 or 60th anniversary. I wonder if that plane is still flying?

I believe one of the Tri- Motors is being overhauled right now.

wow chance of a lifetime so from your view could you make out the gauges on the right engine nacelle I always thought this plane needed 2 pilots for that very reason & looks like it got off the ground fast

I could make out the gauges on my side. As I understand it, in a 20 mph wind 70% of the airplane is already flying. It does get airborne very quickly.
