BLEGH
already did, gl Tank.
I love that Nik is doing these awards, considering how unpopular metal is in the Grammy world. I would love to see bands get really excited about these, and all the voting being done by fans is awesome!
"Unpopular" is very generously put. More like off-radar, out of touch, barely acknowledged, Z-list
@@npinjest7779 100%
It might be good advertisement (and who doesn't want more money for their work?) but other than that I don't really see the point on a wider scale. Competing in a subjective matter like art doesn't really accomplish much and judging by popularity is pretty anti-artistic (and a bit ironic for a fairly unpopular genre).
In a more narrow context I can see it being a fun thing for Nik's community to gauge how it leans though.
@@Evil_Peter Award shows almost never about competition. Primarily recognition, celebration, promotion for everyone involved, plus it's a party
@@npinjest7779 These things aren't mutually exclusive and the awards are still for the ones deemed best, which is exactly what you aim to establish in competition.
It‘s so great to see nearly all of the bands sharing the nominations on social media, it really is the award show we needed
Yeah, it’s really cool to see all of the bands stoked about it.
Nik really out here sticking to doing fun metal things here.
Nik doing the fun metal things, and I do the dumb metal things. 😂😂
Your song of the year choice surprised tf out of me 😂🙏
boi WHAT?! Imagine seeing you here. 😂 "Plan Z" was actually in my Top 20 most listened to songs of the year according to my wrapped. Haha
Honestly, as sucky as the COVID shut down was for life, it lead to such a awesome boon in the metal industry these last few years. It feels like its been non stop and I dont really remember, as a fan, this consistent of a run, by both new artists changing things up or past groups dropping amazing work.
I gotta say the metal has become EXTREMELY over saturated in the last 5 years by the sheer amount of bands that are out there. They are suffocating each other.
I really have enjoyed your industry talk videos. They've definitely helped me understand various parts of the industry me and my band need to watch out for. Hopefully maybe my band will be on Nik's list next year 🤞🤞
I do miss the roadie reactions though 😭😭
Came here to say this same thing. Do what you are interested in doing Tank; your enthusiasm and passion are what we love, not just your “reactions.” Also, you’re the main channel I know about that will talk about In Flames, Insomnium, etc…the non “core” bands, so I really appreciate you for talking about that as much as you do.
Congrats on your nomination, man, it's well-deserved! Regarding what you said about not knowing a lot of these tracks/artists, I don't either, and I followed metal really closely this year, so it's totally understandable that someone with your work load doesn't know them all. I'm just pumped that this awards show exists, because it will bring a lot of attention to the genre, and it's great for those of us who are already here, too. A lot of "true metalheads" give Nik crap for being cringe or for really only following the -core scene, and while my preferences in music align with the "true" crowd, Nik makes excellent content and has truly put in an obscene amount of work this year. He's reached so many people through social media, and there will be a lot of diehard fans that come out of both his prior content and this award show.
I love how best guitarist is basically a bunch of individuals, and the string section of periphery
Man, Niks awards are such an amazing opportunity to explore new bands and songs, i discovered so many fantastic things through this survey
(especially catchiest chorus was SO good to get to know stuff i really like and would probably never seen)
Feels pretty hard for me to catch up with everything - releases, new bands forming etc. i used to be connected very well, nowadays i feel overwhelmed and can't even keep track of bands i already like a lot with all their releases. Very grateful for both niks and your videos tank, they help me a lot to find more stuff i love to hear.
I've been listening to metal for at least 30 years, on and off the whole time. I just can't get enough of it! Super cool we have new fresh breath of metals bands, festivals, and all that noise. Glad to bump into your profile as well! Metal Holidays to all!
your content focused on music industry is so much more unique! everyone can talk about their music tastes, but you have the road experience most of us don't. It's super interesting, keep it up!
I already voted for you! I saw you on the list days ago. I hope you win this year. You totally deserve it!
I found your channel through your industry content and EC. I love that you give such great explanations for BTS and more. Keep up the good work! The nomination was definitely well deserved!
If nothing else, 2023 was a great year for music.
(I do hope Tesseract gets some love though, War of Being has definitely been a highlight of my year. Same with Periphery)
I love intro to this video.
Nik doing fun metal things in the internet. My votes was quite random because I don't know most of the nominated option. Tank, I wish you to win a price.
Thoroughly enjoyed your comments. I have not heard many of these bands and songs, and I agree. Metal has been amazing this year!! I feel ya with the life just taking up time. Love watching you grow and evolve. This year has been a shift in my music taste as well. Always wishing you the best in wherever life brings you. ❤
I've really been enjoying your videos! You got my vote!
You had my vote already. For me Make Them Suffer had an amazing breakthrough with Alex joining the band. Ghost Of Me will forever stay in my heart.
I'm a new fan of yours, Tank, but I already voted for you! Keep up the incredible things you're doing, Bud! 🤘
I love that you gave RockFeed a shout-out. His stuff is so straight forward, no bs info. I found your channel from watching RockFeed and Finn McKenty. YT threw you into the mix one day and I've then shared you with several friends and family. We all love your channel. First time YT's algorithm got it right, very right.
I also feel like a major boomer looking at this list (I'm 33) but I never really got into the core stuff, there are some bands and songs I've heard and liked, but I don't follow that scene at all.
Also, am I mistaken or are a lot of the nominees from the north american scene? Might be another reason I'm not so familiar with a lot of it since I'm in Europe
I've mainly listened to Japanese death metal and metalcore this year and I don't pay attention to much metal youtubers besides you and a few others, so it's nice to see the names of some people, bands and songs I actually recognize.
Tank you did get my vote because i love how you go over their gear man. Its awesome. Also trust me when i say this Jiluka will not disappoint you when you finally give them a listen
We checked em out on stream the other day with their video for "Venom" and it blew my damn mind.
@@TankTheTech right? They definitely are redefining the scene for sure in their own right
Thanks Tank whas a hilarisch and great video
I found your stuff by the Two Rocking Grannies awards on there RUclips channel about two years ago :D
For me the album of the year is Terrasite from Cattle Decap. These guys gained a level from Death Atlas where i didnt thought there are more levels. They are insanely talented and Travis Ryan as a vocalist is one of my favourites.
It's crazy to see what this all has amounted to. I'm really excited to see how this expands over the next few years. Some strapping young lad out of the Great White North doing big shit for our favorite genre.
To the person in chat's question about Tank being a metalhead and not knowing over half of the nominations sometimes things happen in a year where you don't get to listen to the stuff you normally would have. For me personally I still love my core music but I probably listened to as much music as is reflected in the nominations, if not more, this year in the genres of black metal, death metal, and doom metal as opposed to metalcore and deathcore. That's not even including all the indie rock and shoegaze I listened to as well.
Plus, there's just so much metal out there. I've listened to metal for all my life, regularly listen to hundreds of metal bands and discover many new ones every year and I STILL didn't know half of these. Really depends on your preferred sub genres, your age, your country etc. That person in the chat probably wouldn't know half the bands on Tank's playlist either.
You gotten my vote 2 days ago tank! Hope you get that win brother! 👊
Love your vids man. I said the same thing when I got to EP of the year! I went with Spiritbox because they're my favorite band at the moment, but Orbit Culture should have been on and won that category.
It's amazing how you manage to do all this awesome stuff on youtube and touring while being a great dad. Thank you for your efforts tank.
Nicky is going places for sure. Congrats on getting nominated you deserve it
I already voted for Tank, you need to win. Plus in the releases there is a SHIT TON that havent entered the competition for album of the year, IT WAS AN AMAZING YEAR FOR METAL.
Gotta love nik keeping the love of all things heavy in music alive and well
I mean Nik is also a terminally online kind of dude so this makes sense. Lol yes I understand that still makes me sound old.
I gotta say it took me an hour or so just to make my votes because so much of these were so good!
You got my vote. LETS GO!!
Loved the vid!
100% agree, it’s great that we have something to show appreciation to the artists that have made our own year.
Not saying these guys deserve any award over anyone else, and I’m a little bit biased, since these are my hometown boys that I found this year, but there should be a ‘round of applause’ so to speak for Polaris. To release a single, then between that and the next one, lose your lead guitarist, which for some bands might make them fall apart, or take a year off to look at everything, and see where they stand, and to still then release the next single and the album (which is an absolute banger, front to back great songs imo), and still hold up their agreements for tours and stuff, is such a commendable act, that took 4 hearts full of sorrow and grief, to push through and show the world how strong they truly are.
I imagine your nomination last year brought you some new viewers and subscribers.
Another Canadian brought me here. Stevie T reacting to your reaction on his country video 😆🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Good luck to all involved.
Tank! I hope you pick up the slack & create an awards show for all the other types of great metal.
My current every day all day long favorite is a Fan Project video of Nightwish ft Dan Vasc doing the song Last Ride Of The Day. Holey schmoley powerful.
I put my votes in when it went live to be able to vote.
I voted for you tank. 🤘🤘
The amity affliction- it’s hell down here is definitely the catchiest chorus of the year! It’s my #1 song
I voted for you ❤! Invent anime is my album of the year for his list, VRSTY Levitate is my AOTY!
I really want to see Polaris win something, whether it being from Niks awards or another award show. Nightmare very well may be SOTY for me.
Every category had some incredible picks. Could see it going many ways.
Tank, just because you don't know half of the stuff, does not mean you are out of touch. I don't know half too, but 70% of my spotify wrapped and all but two of my top 10 records of the year are new artists. 5 out of those are debuts. There is just so much, you can't know everything, and what you're going to know is down to your bubble. My Top record of the year is by far "Postcards from a Living Hell" by RedHook, you might have heard of them, as their Singer, Emmy, recently was featured in a song of Daniel's Sideproject Samurai Pizza Cats, Their music ranges from straight up metal core over rap parts to pop punk. But Reborn Superstar! by Hanabie. is also really good.
Face Yourself is incredible!!
Just saw Dying Wish recently and they’re absolutely killing it!
Spiritbox are my faves tho 🧡
I am a big fan of this whole idea. I voted for Finn. but it was super hard to choose between you and him lol. you, Finn, and Bradley were my top three picks on that list for sure. 😎
On your Nik comment on winning. That’s like putting Will Romas on some of the categories. He’ll just win and it wouldn’t even be fair.
I feel old af when it comes to metal recently. It's awesome to see it expanding and ever growing.
Don't feel bad, Tank. I've been working on a project to find as many bands around the world as I can. I mean, countries on every continent.
If you name a weird country, I can find a band.
Matt Halpern is also one of my all time favorite drummers.
He's a monster.
Honestly was the hardest decisions of my life with half of those 😂. I loved cattle decaps new album, orbit, to the grave, like it was so freaking hard. I agreed with ya on a lot, and some how i completely missed the cpu on best bassist for some reason 😂.
Dude. I started watching this and wanted to call you. lol. Love your sh*t. #1 in my book.
I'm with you man. I don't know half the bands the core/ djent scene go on about. I'm an In Flames guy too. For me I also absolutely adore Trivium and Machine Head. Those sort of bands are just timeless for me. And the fact that they are not only still going strong, but going from strength to strength is great. The fact they are reaching 25th and 30th anniversary's and they are still releasing banger albums, even without the stadium shows that the likes of Sabbath, Maiden and Priest had after 30 years of their career. Even without the mainstream attention Maiden and Sabbath had (not that they had much, but it was a lot more than In Flames or Trivium get.) The fact that these 1990s band don't have the same album sales or audience sizes, but are still going so strong means they are doing something right. And they may not be as fresh as Sleep Token or Spiritbox or Slaughter to Prevail. But for me, they are what metal means to me and they can still kick ass even in 2023. So don't go feeling like some sort of boomer. You like what you like and what you like is badass. What you like is the bands that made Sleep Token and Slaughter to Prevail do what they do. And even the bands who are older and more obscure can inspire people nearly 30 years later (I'm thinking specifically about Evergrey who I know you only got into a couple years back because I only just got into them around the same time you started reacting to them.)
This looks very interesting to watch Friday night, I definitely will enjoy to watch this.
Watched Nick's. channel a couple of times but he goes really fast, I'm just to old 😢
💯 So. Much. Music. To. Absorb.
Kinda still wanna know your thoughts on Soulmass. I'm pretty sure I've mentioned them before, it's 2 dudes who love FromSoftware games, and they made a doom death metal band based on those games. Personally, I love them, definitely recommend them.
Songs to check out in particular include Chronicles of the Abysswalker, Spear & Hammer, To Paint a New World, Vile Executioner, and if you're in a rush, Crushed by the Bramd (not Brand).
Yeah, I'm in the same boat about feeling old when I went into the document to vote. I had to go look up most of the bands/songs nominated and most of them I could only listen to 20-30 seconds of before I had to turn it off. A lot of the stuff sounds very similar to me, and I started realizing that I'm the old guy metal head mumbling under my breath about how modern music is just noise and metal was so much better back in my day. And I do think there's something to be said for a lot of metal from the 1980's up to the early 2000's being better because almost none of it was emo music masquerading as metal. I don't say that to put down bands like Bullet for My Valentine or Imminence, but the metal that made it out of those periods and stood the test of time was stuff that wasn't about your girlfriend or your heart break or whatever. It also had qualities that made it not just good metal but good music. Slayer had super catchy riffs. Death had insane writing and guitar work. Dimmu Borgir introduced the world to symphonic black metal. Most of the modern bands just don't seem to have qualities like those that make them worth choosing over some of the older bands and albums. /old guy rant over.
On a similar but different note, there are a couple massive positives I noted while looking up the nominated bands and artists. While I may not personally enjoy a lot of their music (see old man rant above), one thing I noticed was that there is so much more diversity throughout the modern bands. Metal back in the day was just straight white dudes (Rob Halford notwithstanding). Even when I was coming of age in the early 2000's, I could name maybe 2 metal bands that had a non-white member? And maybe a handful that had females in any role? But in this list, so many of these groups have such diverse lineups, it is really heartening to see. I hold that metal has always been for everyone, but seeing bands come up that exemplify that demonstrates that it truly is for everyone, and seeing more artists that aren't just straight white guys can only be a positive. The other thing that I noticed and I think is really cool is the blending of metal with more popular music. Megan Thee Stallion doing a collab with Spiritbox is awesome! UnityTX is a completely new version of rap metal and it's awesome! I'm so happy to see people finding new and interesting ways to influence and enjoy heavy music without it having to be a full jump to Cannibal Corpse.
Lastly and most importantly, it is an absolute travesty that Travis Ryan is not nominated for vocalist of the year for Terrasite.
i had to vote alot of spiritbox since i love them so much currently. and best BLEGHH i had to give to Sam carter in Seeingred (which is an absolute banger) but also for the memes as you know he had to add it to the list real quick
I totally get the point about fans like you said about the Sleep Token fans, but I HOPE there are more people like me. I think voting on things like this is awesome, especially recognizing newer artists or artists that just rose to popularity this year. If I get to a category where I haven't actually heard all the nominees, I'm going to seek them out and give every single one a fair shake.
But who am I kidding? This is just going to be a popularity contest between fanbases.
Dude that Orphan song had one of the hardest bleghs this year, makes me want to stick my leg through my door/wall/house/car
I just voted on the awards. There's no nominations from symphonic/power /folk metal for example. It is heavily biased towards what I assume is metalcore. He almost never mentions bands with clean vocals on his channel, and that excludes a lot of music. We each like what we like, and I assume he does not want to make content about things he is not passionate about, but his list is definitely not the "metal" list, so maybe it's not surprising that you don't recognize some of those bands.
💯
Half of those bands have clean singing. And yes, the list is more Core than Wacken, more new-school.
@@JoinMeInDeathBaby fair point, I guess I never heard of them, so I have no idea 😛 Wacken describes my music taste pretty well 😂 but I do enjoy less bombastic stuff and I don't see the core kids talking about it. Eg VV (project of ville Valo of him, in case your nickname is a reference to that 😁). He released a new album this year and has been touring around US as well. I don't get what the criteria is.
@@andreeawhatever yes, the nickname is a half reference to that HIM song😁 it's a relic from 2012 when i wanted to be an edgelord. The criteria is just whatever fits Nicky's definition of "modern metal". Funny enouth, i first heard this turm in 2009, they used this word when refering to bands like Soilwork and In Flames' new sound back then.
@@JoinMeInDeathBaby I was about to say, I think him was considered pretty modern way back? That's what happens when you get old, all your modern stuff becomes vintage 😛
Hey Tank, you mentioned that you enjoy Hardstyle. I don't know if you know them or not but listen to some "The Browning" specially the track Carnage. You might enjoy them as much as I do
I seen this pop up and watched never seen ya before. Gotta say I have had free time an even still I didn't know all these bands or hear all this music there is literally so much. I had to remove record labels I followed it got over whelming on my RUclips. I kept UNFD just cause a lot of the bands coming out there are unique
I voted for ya dude you're always entertaining to watch and have had you check out some gems of bands I wouldn't have ever known about that I love now too, Orbit Culture comes to mind.
Alex did that gator sound live when i seen them. So sick!
Ill be honest, its straight up either You or Jared. I voted Jared cause musician mansion was fucking insane and introduced me to so many people (especially Justin and Tallah)
CPU for the win! Respect.
Some 1 hour Song challenges would be great
Catchiest chorus of the year HAS TO BE TAA - Its hell down here. The guys perfected the Catchy chorus game years ago
Ad Infinitum and Angus McSixx were SNUBBED!
Signs of the swarm are insane!!!!
You running the Electric Callboy tour when they are back in the spring?
For what it’s worth (nothing) I am a ST fan and managed to check my biases and didn’t vote ST at every opportunity. ~pats self on back~
Also you got my vote ✅
Nik Nocs metal award are something to look forward to
I voted and subscribed
put my vote in.obviously voted for you.good luck
U got my vote
Lotta good albums, it's beartooth for me followed closely by spiritbox
Did Tank vote before this or something? Would've liked to see his picks in this video while he had it up.
Orbits culture is the shit to me is the discovery of the year I discovered them at there show
Knocked Loose - Everything Is Quiet Now is breakdown of the year for me. Easily.
It's cool to see Japanese metal getting some representation here. Jiluka really kicked it into overdrive with some of their breakdowns. While they're not my favorite J-metal band, it's just nice to see J-metal in the conversation.
excuse please, are you the guitarist of Underoath?
Album write in for Overkill!
AP used to have an award show. Dunno if they still do it
I just learned that Nik is Canadian I love him even more.
If you haven't listened to the Terrasite album from Cattle Decapitation, you need to!
So hyped to see Impending Doom on the list! They deserve more love.
Tank, I am a 27 year old metalhead who mainly just listens to 90's death metal xD I promise these lists make me feel like a boomer too
He doing fun metal things there
I just voted (I voted for you before I watched this by the way) but as a guitarist myself I always hate voting for "best" musician because I don't necessarily believe in "best". Guitarist for example I voted Mike Stringer, technically I don't think he's the best best, but I fucking LOVE his songwriting and riffs. Also voted fot Courtney for vocals because she's technically amazing, and I also absolutely love her voice.
Vocalist of the year, Oli from Archspire, every time
I personally think no band comes close to Ice Nine Kills for music video of the year because they literally created an entire Slasher movie with their music video(s)
Of course it's all personal taste but still I think an entire movie is the most impressive
I will say the Angriest song of the year I didn't know any of the bands except for Knocked Loose and I don't like Knocked Loose so I just chose Bodysnatcher because that's a cool band name 😆 I just don't know a lot of Core bands
i love Plan Z and Neon Tide, idk if i can agree with that take.
Hey Tank, planst du immer noch nach Deutschland zu ziehen?
Ja, es ist immer noch möglich.
@@TankTheTech dann hoffen wir, dass die Jungs dich rüber holen 💪
Dude, i said the same exact thing about Plan Z being catchier than Neon Tide lol
I would have voted you for content creator if it wasn't for Jareds Musician Mansion. Had to vote for him for that.
