Something that I love noticing and not a lot of people see is during the beginning of the movie Hector doesn’t wear any shoes but at the end he has shoes on. Great story and character development

The dog being able to cross over is accurate as it is a Xoloitzcuintle and that breed is considered to be spirit guides to the underworld
From a cultural standpoint, Coco means the world to me. The sheer respect for Mexican culture in this movie is just incredible. The music, the food & the preparations for The Day Of The Dead. The culture itself is part of who I am and it's very important, as is the message of the importance of family.

Being originally from Mexico, I can say this movie captured the color and the visuals of the Dia de los Muertos is on point.
The actual tradition is a little misrepresented (the origins of the altars dates back to the Náhuatl tradition, centuries before the invention of photography) , but it works well for the plot.
The scene where the gran ma breaks the guitar always gets me. My father broke my guitar when I was about 10 or 11.
One of my favorite scenes is in the plaza where the mariachi is afraid of la chancla (the sandal). It was a big thing in Mexican culture. There is a video called "Mexican Matrix" from the channel David Lopez, which makes fun of our relationship with la chancla de mamá in a very creative way. I recommend it highly.
A similar movie that even came out around the same time as this also animated is called The Book Of Life. Also worth checking out. They both deal with afterlife in different ways.
