15 minute songs were the best when djing at a house party. Grab a beer, go use the restroom, say hi to 15 more people that just arrived, smoke a bit off the joint being passed around, split a bean in two and eat both halves so they’ll hit harder, tell the annoying girl you don’t know that you can’t find “set u free” because you own 2500 records and you’re too unorganized to put everything in order, look for it anyway, eventually start looking for the next record you’re going to play that you bought on Wednesday at the drop shop, mix it in flawlessly and start to feel the pill kick in.

Anyone saying that Florida doesn't understand the EDM from '89-'93 is a total moron. We partied so hard in Orlando and Tampa that the ATF had to come in and put a stop to it. Kimball Collins, DJ Three, Icey, Rabbit in the Moon, the music stands on its own and there was nowhere in the country where breaks ruled more supreme than central Florida. We also had a secret place known as Simon's in Gainesville where the real crazies showed up to throw down. Florida was a 3 ring circus between SFL, Central, and the North. It's been over 20 years but tracks like this will live on forever.

I went to FLA twice last year. First time as an adult. Couldn't find any spots where I could find anything like what I'd hoped to see. Tough to think it would be the same, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right spots. I'd go back in a heart beat if I thought this could be revived. Heck, I'd drive, and it's 25hrs due south!

As much as I despise living in Florida, I am soooooooo thankful that I was here for the most amazing time in the music scene. The music, people, parties, DJ’s I was exposed to shaped who I am today & this song more than others is at the top of the list ❤️ the memories this track brings back give me the chills & instantly transport me back to the best times of my life 💫✨✨💫 I’m going to see Baby Anne, AK1200, Dara, Dieselboy & Deekline on the 30th I can’t wait!! I got to see Huda, Tony Faline, Keith Mackenzie & Dave London last year (they fucking killed it, the whole place went wild!!) Stanton Warriors will be here next month & I can’t wait for that! It’s so good after the hell the last few years have been for all of us to have this time again to just dance your cares away to the music that defined us as a generation ❤️❤️ long live breaks, jungle, drum n bass, electro, progressive, HOUSE MUSIC!!!

1989-1993 breaking into warehouses blacking out every single window with hefty garbage bags. setting up tables and not coming up for air till 5 days later. i feel sorry for anyone who is not old enough to have had a chance to experience the scene in its purest form. when music was god and abandoned warehouses were our church. sorry FL kids im sure the music touched you too back then but if you didnt live in Seattle or down the road in SF you really never felt what it meant to rave. Garth, Jeno, Hardkiss Bros., Dubtribe all were here from SF on a regular basis for years in Orlando, Gainesville, Tampa and elsewhere. Central FL was a large and thriving scene until the government cracked down on it in the mid-90's.

Listening to a mix I recorded back in '95. And out of Stella Getz "Dr Love" the Hard Love Dub mix I hear A1 Love. Absolutely one of my favorite tracks to hear and dance to at the club. The light tech at the LIZARD LOUNGE would fog the main floor and then hit the strobes. I remember one tine while A1 was playing, I found a friend in the crowd and he put his hand on my shoulder and asked if I could help him get to the restroom because he couldn't see straight and the crowd was shoulder to shoulder. Took us 10 minutes but the time we got there there 5 of us who trying to get the restroom lol. Wild times.

cant forget Atlanta! haha.. huge tune in the ATL. You would here this pretty much every night at all the good club spots and proper raves... even loungier small-dancefloor spots like the original MJQ. it was a song everybody knew and would always destroy the dancefloor. the intro is so good to hear coming up on the system. the buildup.... early bassbin twin tunes were pretty much all perfect. im still hoping peter busts out his old sampler and makes some raw breakbeat tracks again. he is a true innovator.

why does everyone here claim Florida. im sure you were all treated to something special in those magical years but for us in San Francisco this was all day and night every day and night. These guys Jeno, Garth , DJ DAN , Doc Martin etc called SF home.

I think it's because of the influence of Funky Tekno Tribe, which was more musically diverse. Most folks I know that grew up in So FLA and didn't get to party in San Fran during the 90s just equate San Francisco with them. Honestly if I didn't DJ I probably still would have no idea how many classic breaks came out of there. Bassbin, Hardkiss, DJ Dan, Dr. Freecloud. to name a few.

Andrew Williams - We claim Florida because that's where we're from, and what we experienced. Same reason you claim San Francisco. Having also been a DJ in the 90's, I am fully aware of the scene and artists in San Fran during that time, and would loved to have experienced it first-hand. But that does not diminish what we had in FLA. Dynamix II, Magic Mike, Rabbit In The Moon, Icey, Noel Sanger, Stryke, Jackal & Hyde, and countless other artists and influential DJ's. It's not a competition. We were all a part of an underground movement that spanned thousands of miles. If you need proof of my respect for the SF scene, check out my video of Gavin Hardkiss at The Edge reunion in Ft. Lauderdale from a few years ago.

Andrew Williams Because "Florida "funky" Breaks" is the influence here. Created by Dj's in Florida and quit a few went platinum. Icey, Scratch D, Brad Smith, Rick West, Huda Hudia, Funk Lab, Angy Hughes, Baby Anne, Tony Faline, Keith Mac, Noel Sanger, Jackyl & hyde, Paully Fixx, Sharaz, Paul Santana, Chris Chraze, Just Frank I can name 100 more but all these are Florida DJ's who gave a name to Florida FUNKY Breaks. Artists like Kelly Reverb was from Texas but his music genre was "florida breaks". Same with Dj Trashy a badass mofo from Louisiana but they were part of the Florida Breaks influence. Below is a random post to help show how others view it.
Posted from JC's Soundcloud page here is the NiteTown 4 Vinyl Rewind.
Just about 5 hours of bangin ass breaks straight from Lafayette,LA on wax from 4 dope ass legends in my eyes to the scene of Louisiana Breaks that has impacted the Original FL Breaks scene aswell. Many respect to these guys and honored to share this with everyone.
Below is quote from Johnny CaGe himself....
