Although the buck trinket is a must go to, I think for people who are having trouble with perfect pelts is they are not paying attention to the _Animal Info_ . its telling you exactly what weapon you should use. For example: A [blank] animal is best hunted with a repeater, that means use a repeater weapon and "regular" rounds, NOT express etc...unless it specify different ammo. if you are to use a bow with improved arrows, dont use a bow and small game arrows or regular.
Pretty sure the buck antler dosent make a 2 star animal a perfect pelt. For me at least it seemed more like if you didnt get a perfect kill on a 3star animal it made it stay a perfect pelt instead of a good one
a couple of things, in addition to the grizzly bear, the wolf, and the cougar, I think the panther which is found down in the more swampy areas, should also be included on that list of predators that will always attack. Second, regarding accidental death or injury of your horse, twice I shut my application down right away after accidentally killing my horse, and twice turned it back on and had my horse and was right pretty much where I left off, only with a horse that was still alive.
That works while you are playing the story but after the epilouges the game autosaves alot less. I completed the gambler and horseman challenges and got alot of new clothes and turned off my game. When I came back it reset all the way to gambler 3. I haven't played in the past week because of it
Another tip when Cougar, Wolf, or Panther hunting... Get a wagon that's pulled by two horses. Preferably a flatbed one. This way, they can't pounce on you, you can study them, and kill them too.
I find it easy to find Cougars, predators when there are carcasses left around the area, found 2 cougars eating on the carcasses i left in the area they spawn, hope this helps
I do all my huntimg from horse back. Much quicker and easier that way....never loose prey that way. Only legendary you have to get down on foot for really.
A fantastic little thing I fold, I was up in the mountains for a couple days with a ram on my horses back. It never spoiled or rotted for the 2 days I was there. I assumed the cold region keep it preserved. As soon as I was in a warmer climate, the carcass down from rot. What a great game.
Using cover scent lotion combined with predator bait and/or animal carcasses can attract cougars/wolves/bears and allow you to hide in the distance while they eat. You can then use a long range rifle to line up your perfect shot. Not always effective if you're too close to your bait but finding a spot where they can't sneak up on you (against a big tree or rock) can help. Use your dead eye frequently to help spot the animal at a distance and always check behind you.
Can I make a suggestion for a video/series? One that shows important things to do on in each chapter BEFORE continuing. There are certain side missions and items like special guns etc that can only be gotten at certain times/chapters it would be nice for a vid showing that and maybe the best way to complete each chapter?
Do the white circles before the yellow. I got some better weapons very early by meeting the author in the small Valentine Saloon, and chasing down the legendary gunslingers. Their stats were crappy, but once I cleaned them, they were good to go. Yellow missions advance the story, white circles are side/other content.
My personal special tip is to get a second horse (tame one or steal one), upgrade to affinty lvl 1, you can whistle your two horses and whistle the second one to follow you. This way you can have x2 big skin or big fish. Works very well and very helpful. Sometimes I personnally did it with 3 horses (you ride the 3rd with no affinity and whistle to follow the two others), its less manageable but great to run to sell 3 Big skins for crafting for example. Its something i found on my second playthrough and i never seen it on yt or any guide.
I tried using three horses on the PC and the third one was buggy and disappeared. I never had any bugs while using two horses for hunting, though. Just sayin'
MyPeopleNeedMe not “learning”. I’ve been so focused on some other things that I overlooked that specific one. That’s why i said “thanks for mentioning” meaning reminding. Hope you learnt something though
MandibleJaws, Everytime I see a smarta$$ comment like that or the one above who said they thought this was hunting tips, not how to clean your clothes...I picture a little wimpy 12 or 14 yr old boy trying to be toughguy.
The best way I found to hunt cougars, Panthers and bears are to keep poison arrows on you. Just go into to Deadeye and Thanos them. Also using the Predator bait does work but the scary part is When something like a pig comes along and then you kill the pig and check on the bait and then the Damn thing comes out of nowhere!
On the north side right outside the entrance of Beecher's Hope is an excellent spawning point, especially at night. It's very easy to catch them unaware if you're using binoculars or a scope to spot them first and to kill them from far off.
@@armandosmith8323 Yeah he said they allways spot you first but thats wrong. Cougars usually spawn in spaces where its easy for them to hide and eagle eye dosent spot them either but they are in bushes or behind some rocks and can be found before they even spot you. Ive managed to get couple of cougars just using sniper rifle to spectate all the bushes. But at the end of the day you only ever need 1 cougar and thats that, you should never go for another cuz the game gives you nothing for him.
I caught one unaware near the Big Valley trapper booth, thought it was because it was feeding on a grizzly carcass from my previous day's hunt. Only time I've caught a cougar truly unaware was on the beach between Van Horn and Annesburg... on the BEACH of all places... maybe it ate a human that had just taken 3 edibles, and it was cold-chillin catchin rays and trying to remember where it lived.
Just north of annesburg, my horse spooked so I stopped and spotted one hiding up ahead near the road. Needing bow kills for the challenges, my war horse and I charged him and he charged us. Last second kill definitely makes my favorite red dead moments list
Best and fastest way to reel fish in: Keep rotating the stick to reel in, but also moving the left stick straight down every second or two. Just move the stick down to tug it towards you, then let go of the left stick, then repeat. All of this is done while reeling. You’ll get fish back much faster. Just be careful not to break the line because that still applies.
There's an option in the settings to make it a button press. X on Xbox. Lures reel nice and slow. Fish reel super fast without violently thrashing the analogy stick. Perfect for playing at night next to the missus 😂 and holding a baby.
I've found an easy panther spot south of the braitwhaites' farm It is near a cabin called "catfish something" on the woods where you bounty hunt a lemoyne's raider guy, Camille Millemont The panther will always be there near this lemoyne's raider camp, after the first time i saw her it marked a little bit up north in the map, but it is actually closer to that camp And the way i found to kill it is by using the scent lotion and crouch walking all the time One important hint when being on a predator's area is to use the dead eye vision often, look around and aim at any animal that glows That's how i found her just after a ground bump, glowing at the dead eye's view, crouched staring at me as if it was trying to find out what am i (because of the scent) I first thought it was a rock because it was crouched, when i aimed to confirmed it showed "big cat" on the name, it was VERY close but she didn't attacked me because of the scent and probably for crouched walking
Hey dude, i can see this is an old video. But I'm going back through the gameplay again and I discovered something last night that was pretty awesome. It was just after the side mission with Charles in Chapter 2 when you find all the dead bison and the poachers ect. Anyway. I was heading back to camp, with the bison still stowed on my horse and ended up getting a perfect pronghorn carcass for crafting back at camp also. Now what I did was lasso the dead carcass of the pronghorn and dragged it back to camp; luckily did not damage it. I don't know if this works every time. But when i discovered it last night I was pretty impressed 👍
I think the max carcasses (or large pelts) you can bring back is 3. By simultaneously using your (1) Main horse (2) and Temporary horse (3) and Lasso'ing a 3rd horse OR (my preference, as it's simpler, though slower...) having main and temp horse following you as you run while carrying one yourself. I've done this at the Stagecoach Fence's farm in Emerald Ranch. Starting about 10-11pm, with mask up and bow & arrow, it's possible to bag an Ox, two Cows, and enough sheep and goats to complete a large number of Trapper requirements in one trip. As long as passersby don't literally see you firing the bow and arrow, they won't think it's animal cruelty if they catch you skinning them or carrying the pelt. If you do the "running while carrying the 3rd pelt" option - and take a direct line northeast to the Roanoake trapper, it's not too terrible
also - at Emerald Ranch if you go into the Goat pen (behind the Sheep pen near the Fence), there are chickens in there, too. Chickens are small animals... so you can kill like 5 of them with the bow to help with Survivalist challenge #7. Then ride to the nearby Shack east of Emerald Ranch and southeast of the Lookout Tower - there's 3-4 chickens there... super easy to kill 8 with small arrows if you combine those two farms.
I got another hunting tip: you can fish with Dinamite, just chuck a stick at a group of fish (or gaters) and Boom! Every fish in the explosion radius all float belly up. Thought I'd mention this because I haven't seen or heard anyone talk about it, I randomly tried it yesterday thinking about real world physics and found out it worked really well, you do get some negative karma points though.
Despite the video being a year old I will put a location where I often find cougars. Right outside the main entrance to beacher's hope they will spawn regularly. In fact that's where they would regularly spawn in the original red dead redemption as well. I can't tell you how many times I got jumped leaving the house in the original game, so I wasn't surprised when it happened in rdr2.
Hi the first tip that u mentioned is wrong. A good pelt will not become a perfect pelt. That means the game gives you the chance that even if your kill is not perfect there is a chance that the perfect pelt will not turn good and it will stay perfect. Owning this trinket doesn’t mean u can hunt with shotguns. You still have to do everything as is required. The chance of ruining the pelt is reduced. It says so in the guide I bought.
If your horse falls or gets shot and you need to kill or revive, and you don't want to kill it, you don't need to close the game. If your horse is on the ground dying you can go buy a revive and come back. I'm not sure if further distances will change this, but my horse died right by the Horseshoe Overlook camp and I went to Valentine, bought a revive, played a little five finger fillet, and went back to a horse still on the ground dying.
I just bought red dead. Alot of really good games have come out this year, and just now getting tonit. But his video hasn't ruined anything for me. Just very helpful on some important points.
So why would you watch the video, as soon as it shows John you should of left the video. Also when you posted this comment it was probably like a month and half after the game came out...most people would of already completed the game like MrBOSSFT so STFU
Bonus Tip: If a Grizzly Bear is going to attack u , just stop , dont move a muscle, if u dont move he will stop in front of you and run away , i discovered this when my controller disconnected
i know im really late, but another cool hunting trick is to go hunting with both your main horse and your temporary horse. If you whistle, they'll both follow you and you can fast travel with both of them. This way you have extra storage and can carry two carcassas at once. I know you can get more than 2 horses to follow you but i dont know if you can fast travel with them. But each horse that follows you is an extra caracass storage.
point of fact, the pelt must have been the higher quality first. ie you shoot a perfect buck but don't get a good shot and when go up to skin it it says it is 2 star (good) now you have a chance to get a perfect pelt. I you shot a 2 star animal and got the perfect shot ie it's still 2 star when you skin it will still be 2 star, the trinket will not make a good pelt perfect unless it stated out that way.
Yeah I got killed with one of the pelts and it said i abandoned the pelt so it's at the trapper.. apparently you can just not skin the animal or throw it off a water fall and the trapper still gets it..
I didn't watch the rest of the video but it's of a person hunting a legendary animal you could throw Dynamite at animal as long as it dies the Pelt is always going to be perfect
I’ve got a tip for getting perfect rabbit and other small animals pelts. Just go to a trapper and hogtie them and loot them most of the time they give good pelts but many times they have given me perfect pelts
I noticed that also. Which is a shame as he is usually quite good with his videos, but sadly not on this occasion. In fact, I was mostly spoiler free up until watching this just then....

When hunting cougars sneak very slowly along the game's borderline around owanjila/big mountain around lunchtime. They sleep just along the treeline, Call and shoot before they react
i find cougars pretty easily and if you press circle right before they attack and youll throw them off but its a one time save so throw that dead eye quick. also with bears you have quick time with bears to press circle and fight off the bear and it’ll let you blast them in the face if you are successful

always have a horse reviver on me. Seems like I always have them on me. Never had to use them yet. Since I am using the rare white arabian in the game...I'm testing my luck using the horse. Secondly having the pronghorn trinket would be great to have but not necessary. Since most times you grab a carcass, you a going to bring it back to camp. or sell it. Not sure why I never thought of that trick to sell meat and such at different locations on the map then where you got them...like say selling alligator in Valentine. so simple.
Cougars see you first but you HEAR them growl first AND your horse will Sense them first so you have a chance to put Deadeye on and search for them before they attack you.
I went all over the north of the map and didn't see a single one which is where you'd expect to find them and then I'm over by blackwater and one is hanging out on the edge of the river in the red part.. I shoot it and while I'm skinning it the posse shows up and kills me..
I wish I had seen this before I completed all the hunting stuff the first play through 😅 Had to figure out the near-gurantee places all on my own and how to cheat the save/load to make em spawn. Another great location for grizzlies is near the trapper near big valley. I get attacked after seeing the trader quite often. Working on the hunting challenges, making my rounds for cougars, and have found every time another cougar spawns there, so do a grizzly
Grizzlies don't always attack on sight, I had one see me when I got the axe in the area you mentioned, I saw it first, when it saw me it growled and stood on its hind legs, thats when I drew both revolvers and aimed at it. He walked towards me slowly but never attacked, I am not sure if its because I saw it first or because I stood my ground and didn't move.
Or use deadeye and kill them all without them even getting anywhere near you with that revolver. Sadly this game has deadeye and it brakes the game so bad. Taking all possible challange away from it.

I found about 3 cougars at once in the Great Plains near Blackwater. They're pretty common around there
"You will find grizzlys 100% of the time..." until you get to the master challenge and then you cant find any lol
If you go down south from the bear like an inch it will spawn.
There's a Grizzley Bear in Vetter's Echo Cabin.. Just access it from the rear
I always get a perfect pelt from that cabin also always find one to the east alongside little creek @@fortragexx
Improved arrows work well hunting grizzlies
I find it easy to find Cougars, predators when there are carcasses left around the area, found 2 cougars eating on the carcasses i left in the area they spawn, hope this helps
@@sanctumsomega oh
I do all my huntimg from horse back. Much quicker and easier that way....never loose prey that way. Only legendary you have to get down on foot for really.
Same here bro.

Tried cover scent but it wore off very quickly!
Cougars can also be found at TGI Fridays.
I just want to date a Sunday school teacher. She can teach me the 10 commandments then I can teach her how to brake most of them
Can I make a suggestion for a video/series?
One that shows important things to do on in each chapter BEFORE continuing. There are certain side missions and items like special guns etc that can only be gotten at certain times/chapters it would be nice for a vid showing that and maybe the best way to complete each chapter?
Make it.
Do the white circles before the yellow. I got some better weapons very early by meeting the author in the small Valentine Saloon, and chasing down the legendary gunslingers. Their stats were crappy, but once I cleaned them, they were good to go. Yellow missions advance the story, white circles are side/other content.
Buy the strategy guide.
True, that would be useful
He doesn't know about that he only knows about what is written in the tutorials and the manual.
Can do this twice from some things I have seen.
I tried using three horses on the PC and the third one was buggy and disappeared. I never had any bugs while using two horses for hunting, though. Just sayin'
Thanks for mentioning Pronghorn. I stay out for days camping an area and carcass not spoiling will really help.
Lol how r u learning this from mrboss 1st lol
MyPeopleNeedMe not “learning”. I’ve been so focused on some other things that I overlooked that specific one. That’s why i said “thanks for mentioning” meaning reminding. Hope you learnt something though
@@MyPeopleNeedMe I just learned it so sod off.
I've picked off a few unaware cougars. They usually see you first though.
On the north side right outside the entrance of Beecher's Hope is an excellent spawning point, especially at night. It's very easy to catch them unaware if you're using binoculars or a scope to spot them first and to kill them from far off.
Me too. They were chasing dinner not even aware of me.
Best and fastest way to reel fish in:
Keep rotating the stick to reel in, but also moving the left stick straight down every second or two.
I've found an easy panther spot south of the braitwhaites' farm
It is near a cabin called "catfish something" on the woods where you bounty hunt a lemoyne's raider guy, Camille Millemont
The panther will always be there near this lemoyne's raider camp, after the first time i saw her it marked a little bit up north in the map, but it is actually closer to that camp
And the way i found to kill it is by using the scent lotion and crouch walking all the time
One important hint when being on a predator's area is to use the dead eye vision often, look around and aim at any animal that glows
That's how i found her just after a ground bump, glowing at the dead eye's view, crouched staring at me as if it was trying to find out what am i (because of the scent)
I first thought it was a rock because it was crouched, when i aimed to confirmed it showed "big cat" on the name, it was VERY close but she didn't attacked me because of the scent and probably for crouched walking
I was killed by a cougar my 1st hour into chapter 2 trying to save some guy...
Pingu Stiltskin it does work, I use it in Online for transporting quickly.
So like, you can just drag an animal carcass back to camp/town?
JJ the DJ I’m late, and you probably figured it out by now, but the answer to your question is “Yes”.
I learned the "exit the game so you don't lose your horse" on my own thank you very much. I'm THAT dedicated to keeping my horse alive.
How do you exit without it saving? IDK how to "close application on the game"
Yeah that works, I turned auto save off but make sure to save right after I get something important.
for the hunting challenge to catch 3 fish without the rod, use dynomite in the lakr or stream, super easy, and did it one try
Or deadeye with a shotgun
@@nathanwatkins1005 its old school dynomite fishing tho. lol dead eye and guns are to straight foward lol explosions are fun ha ha but u are right

You can hit circle or B to knock cougars off you. Plus a way better spot to bow kill cougars for hunter challenge 6 is by the trapper in tall trees
That's a panther, not a cougar
Hi the first tip that u mentioned is wrong. A good pelt will not become a perfect pelt. That means the game gives you the chance that even if your kill is not perfect there is a chance that the perfect pelt will not turn good and it will stay perfect. Owning this trinket doesn’t mean u can hunt with shotguns. You still have to do everything as is required. The chance of ruining the pelt is reduced. It says so in the guide I bought.
Yeah thats what he said later on
not true, a good pelt can become a perfect pelt. 100%
I've seen sleeping Cougars before they noticed me before.

Eagle eye 🤣 Descendent of Ezio confirmed!
Eagle vision rockstar copied Ubisoft

Also when you posted this comment it was probably like a month and half after the game came out...most people would of already completed the game like MrBOSSFT so

Bonus Tip: If a Grizzly Bear is going to attack u , just stop , dont move a muscle, if u dont move he will stop in front of you and run away , i discovered this when my controller disconnected
Ive seen enough of your RDR2 vids so I am now a subscriber. Great work, keep it up
i know im really late, but another cool hunting trick is to go hunting with both your main horse and your temporary horse. If you whistle, they'll both follow you and you can fast travel with both of them. This way you have extra storage and can carry two carcassas at once. I know you can get more than 2 horses to follow you but i dont know if you can fast travel with them. But each horse that follows you is an extra caracass storage.
There was a cougar at the museum today that apparently assumed that I was younger than I appear, and she wouldn't stop hitting on me. True story.
Most underrated comment here.
point of fact, the pelt must have been the higher quality first. ie you shoot a perfect buck but don't get a good shot and when go up to skin it it says it is 2 star (good) now you have a chance to get a perfect pelt. I you shot a 2 star animal and got the perfect shot ie it's still 2 star when you skin it will still be 2 star, the trinket will not make a good pelt perfect unless it stated out that way.
Thank god yo that last tips was really helpful I couldn’t find the right animals and started not to care

always have a horse reviver on me. Seems like I always have them on me. Never had to use them yet. Since I am using the rare white arabian in the game...I'm testing my luck using the horse.
Secondly having the pronghorn trinket would be great to have but not necessary. Since most times you grab a carcass, you a going to bring it back to camp. or sell it.

Tip: you hear wolves howling and you only have a revolver, get on your horse and RUN. they will take you down so fast.
Or use deadeye and kill them all without them even getting anywhere near you with that revolver. Sadly this game has deadeye and it brakes the game so bad. Taking all possible challange away from it.
