  • It's been a long time since we've seen processor manufacturers rely on the cache - and an experiment in the face of Ryzen 5800X3D showed that a lot of fast memory gives a good boost in games. And what about Risen 7000X3D, which are already very fast? What bonuses does an extra L3 cache give? Are there any pitfalls? We have sorted out the non-obvious nuances of the big red cache.

    I don't understand the point of "there's no point buying the best cpu on a new platform." not everyone upgrades frequently and just want the best they can get for the money (which right now is the 7800x3d). If we always wait for the next generation, no one will ever buy anything. We live in the here and now, not the future.

      The point is that this cpu is not the most reliable given the novelties used in it, but at the same time the benefits it would give you can only be seen under very specific circomstances. You will hardly feel the performance difference, whereas you sure will feel the price difference.

      @@vadulme8640 the 7800x3d is a gaming cpu, and in gaming the difference is quite noticeable. Plus there are always issues on the bleeding edge of technology, that's why it's called the bleeding edge (it might just cut you.) It's par for the course if you wait for next gen it will have issues too, new tech always does. If anything the 7800x3d will become a better value as it gets older not worse, as it will become more stable than its newer counterparts and at cheaper prices.

    • @vadulme8640
      @vadulme8640 Год назад

      @@thomashodgetts5147 I mean, if you want to be on the bleeding edge, you just get the best top end parts and go with that. Money doesn't matter here. Most people who watch such videos care for value. What value is there in the best gaming cpu the bestness of which you can only feel when your fps is already above 200? Given it's unreliability, it's not something you should go for if you are a regular normal person who just want to get a good pc component without overpaying too much.

    I have used the 7900x3D and loved it, but i can changing over from the 5960x X99. For me this is amazing, I upgraded to the 7950x3D and did not over clock the CPU because I knew what the deal was. I underclocked the CPU -20 all core to get a stable boost and use Process Lasso to make sure all non gaming tasks are on the Frequency CCD to reduce 1% lows. I did tighten the ram timings and that was it. I now have 99% usage on my 3080 and have gained 40-50FPS in most games on my Samsung CR49 5160x1440. This FPS is like going from 70-80 to 130-160. I have no issues playing the new Star Wars Jedi Survivor at 60-80 FPS. I have seen over 100fps in Star citizen and can use all my toys HOTAS etc. without worrying due to my seemingly endless cores. I am using Corsair 240 AIO and Idle at 49c and 78c under load. I have no issues with the 7950x3D and plan to use it for year to come. This may not be for everyone but I am loving this CPU.

      This is what everyone buying that chip (or 7900X3D) should do. I don't understand AMD (and/or Microsoft) decision to dabble with that weird parking behaviour. Just make sure the game is on the 3D chip cores (or test and see that CS GO runs better on the non 3D chip cores) and call it a day. Maybe make sure the other processes, including the windows scheduler, run on the non 3D chip cores. So sad that it was badly communicated and presented and people have to make manual adjustments that some people don't know about or are too lazy to do them, thinking it's not good/safe/easy.

    Well Asus and other motherboard vendors are already rolling out patches that remedy the failure issues. I hope the warranty covers anyone affected. As far as your other points go, and they are quite strong, the 7800X3D will be surpassed in the future by better CPUs, that's the nature of tech. I think it will be powerful enough to stand the test of time in the coming years, since its so overkill now.
    Full disclosure - I just got a 7800X3D, so I'm biased. I also considered the 5800X3D and the i7-13700K and while they look great, I decided to go with the 7800X3D for the future proofing for gaming. I hope it was the right call. In any case it will be better than the i5-7400 I was rocking until now.

      Running CPUs out of spec, like the 7800x3d has been, is very likely to reduce it's longevity, whether the CPU fails now or not. Gamers Nexus mentioned a couple of issues, some of which are slow cooking the CPU.
      So much for future proofing then. Hope yours doesn't fail just out of warranty...
      Personally, I'm thinking about 13600k/13700k and 7800x3d atm, but AMD is constantly proving itself to not be as reliable as either intel or nvidia.

      @@AR-ey1ur I hope so too. I just saw the Gamers Nexus video on the topic. Great video. Mine ran with the original BIOS for 2 days, so I hope its not fatal in the long run. First time I'm well enough to buy a high end CPU and this happens.
      Both the 13600k/13700k look great. I've never seen one yet, so I have 0 personal opinions on them. Last time I had an AMD (Phenom II X4), it was great. I had fewer problems with than than with my i5-7400 or the i5-8600 I have at work. I guess its not the same AMD.

  • @Muldeeer
    @Muldeeer Год назад +2

    AMD cpus with 3D cache don't just die on their own. They can have problems if you leave voltages on AUTO in the bios and pair it with a fast memory. Its only a problem in 7xxx series, because the bios sets around 1.4v SOC voltage for the cpu... But that is overclocking already (XMP/DOCP). And if you overclock, NEVER use auto voltages for anything... If you can't figure this out on your own, don't overclock. These cpus are fine for what they are made - mainly gaming. I play Escape from Tarkov and here the 5800X3D is 70% faster than the 5800X...

    I've had the 7950x on the Asrock Taichi Carrara x670 with 2x16gb Kingston Renegade CL32 6000mhz since launch, still on the 1.11.AS06 [Beta] bios, there has been two new revisions since I updated but my system is running good so I haven't bothered updating it. I did have issues with earlier revisions such as PBO and Curve settings crashing my system but now it runs great -20mv on 1.11.AS06. Actual clock speed is still not showing up in Rivatuner though, Riva has it at 5.5ghz but Master has it under 4.7ghz.
    I agree with your view point in this video, better off witth a 7700x on a B650 board over spending more on the 7800x3D. 7800x3D is $251 more than the 7700x here in Australia, imo it doesn't perform $251 better same with the 7950x3D over the 7950x. Would have preferred to have seen a 7600x3D released over the higher core count processors.
    Thanks for the video mate

    Saying the next line of CPUs are coming is a bit of a misnomer, the new round of gaming hardware is always coming out soon. If you want the best for gaming, get a 7800X3D and replace it with a 9000 or even 10000 series if it’s still on AM5.

  • @wolfwood7219

    There is a big performance metric that ive noticed is not included in cpu reviews. extra cache has a big boost in VR in particular with unity based games its is massive and although vr is not mainstream gaming with such an expensive set up it is widely used compared to a budget system. also i think that in a year or two when the 8000 series comes out the price of these cpus will go down changing the dynamics of where the cpu's come in for price and performance. i expect the 7800xd to look probably not as favorable as the 5800xd but to be viewed similarly as a fast chip for the money as newer cpus are released.

    You have one video critizing CPU stagnation, and now you have this video critizing CPU innovation, so which is it? Would you rather have a CPU that is overkill for today's games, but are ready to meet the demand of tomorrows games, or would you rather have over a decade of quad cores with only 5%-10% IPC improvement per generation.
    As far as 7000 CPU's dying, AMD has addressed this problem, it wasn't isolated to X3D CPU's but other AMD cpu's were exceeding SOC voltage per partner motherboards going out of AGESA spec. How is this AMD's fault
    It's not AMD or intels fault that monitors manufacturers are still behind the curve of high Hertz. As of now there are no monitors on the market that has a high enough refresh rate AND pixel response time that is able to meet current high end PC hardware, I don't see how you can blame AMD for this.
    This video is non sense and I hope others give it a downvote as I did.

      The way I see it it's not that the product is bad. It's just that it's not worth getting for like 99% of users. Hard to get a real benefit from it. Who cares if it's AMD's fault or not that they die? As the end user, I would be equally disappointed regardless why it died. I don't see any blames towards AMD, more like, a warning to potential buyers.
