      You're right. The Wii U was a commercial failure, but despite the poor sales and the confusion about the tablet add-on's use, it sold almost 14 million units in 2012, more than any other console that year, hence technically making it the best selling toy of the year.

      It was just a Wii that was made to look different and had the latest electronic (the tablet) so they thought it would sell more. I don't see how PlayStation didn't make it with the PS2 it sold the record amount. More than any console ever has or since with over 150 million units. The PS4 has came close but it's just over 100 million. PS4 has sold more than this gen of consoles.

      Ok so what toy debuted and sold better in 2012 than the wii-u? They're basing this list on the release year of the product

    • @JaAiden
      @JaAiden 4 года назад +7

      @@visualcoco One of the issues is that a lot of the big toys of 2012 were older products. Furby was still huge that year, as were Skylanders, Monster High toys, Beyblades, scooters... a lot of the other stuff on this list. The other toy probably deserving a mention would be "learning tablets" like the LeapFrog tablets, although these had existed well before 2012 and, similar to the Wii U, would burn out soon afterward. So I guess in the end, 2012 was a year where earlier successes clung on, and newer successes wouldn't last.

    • @MegiddoTheImmaculate
      @MegiddoTheImmaculate 4 года назад +4

      @@visualcoco they're not basing it on the release year. A lot of these are after the toy had already been released. They're basing it on when something achieved notoriety.
      Several toys that were more popular than the Wii U in 2012 include Skylanders and Ninjago. Skylanders was technically released in 2011 but it's also a spin-off of Spyro the Dragon which originally released in 1998. Ninjago was also released in 2011 but it's also technically a Lego spin-off even though they created it as a new property.
      I mean, they have Tekno the Robotic Puppy on the list at 2013 even though it was originally released in 2000. A full 13 years before the place they have it at.
      Either way, the Wii U wasn't popular when it was released. It was never popular and was a financial failure for Nintendo.

It hasn't effected me throughout my life and career. I've been an aviation electrician that had to solder tiny wires and rebuild connector plugs with little tiny pins etc. And I'm an artist. The shakes actually help my lines look organic. When drawing foliage I just let my shakes make the random squiggles. The only thing it really limits me on is using an etch-a-sketch. My etch-a-sketch drawings keep erasing while I'm drawing!

    As a kid I liked how Bratz featured all of their 4 main dolls of different ethnicities equally and gave them unique personalities and names, in contrast with Barbie, which featured the blonde haired blue eyed doll most of the time, making her the face and name of the franchise. I always felt like the other dolls were nameless side characters, and it made me feel like my brunette hair was inferior before Bratz were introduced.

    Wait a minute. The Wii U, one of Nintendo's biggest failures was the most popular toy of 2012, but the Switch which is one of Nintendo's biggest successes wasn't mentioned for 2017?

      Not just that, but he ignored the Transformers, how could he? In 1985 they were huge, way bigger than He Man and surely more famous than Teddy Ruxpin.

    • @johnpenguinthe3rd13

      I was thinking the same thing (I own a Wii U and despite my enjoyment of it that thing was a financial failure of epic proportions to the point where it's very noticeable due o the lack of software. Even the original Wii got longer lasting software support when it got Just Dance 2020 and Wii U did NOT receive that game or any other games during that exact time and has remained dead while the original Wii at least had a little life still in it). I looked up 2012 sales numbers of the Wii U and it did apparently sell well during 2012. NOT very well (it still had a negative impact upon Nintendo, even as early as January 2013) but it did have a pretty decent 2012 (it's just everything after for the Wii U that was a financial disaster).
      To explain a little more....
      While the Wii U wasn't exactly selling like hot cakes even during 2012, in COMPARISON to everything else it was selling better. In other words, 2012 wasn't a very good year for almost anyone. But Wii U did sell slightly over 3 million units world wide during 2012, so it had a promising start and outsold everything else that year. It's just everything afterwards which was a complete financial disaster (resulting in a very pathetic lifetime sales of only slightly above 13 million units for the Wii U). As for Switch, while it was by far a MUCH greater success than the Wii U (even during it's first year during 2017, the Switch was far more popular than the Wii U during 2012) , I guess 2017''s L.O.L Surprise made more money than the Switch that year (which I find shocking, but I guess young girls forced their parents to buy that crap up in large quantities during 2017).

    • @Corlock78
      @Corlock78 4 года назад

      @@johnpenguinthe3rd13 Well LOL Suprise are blind box type toys. Randomly assorted and all that, so if a girl wants a specific LOL Surprise, she'll probably have to buy three or four or something like that to get the one she really wants. That helps to inflate the numbers for them somewhat. Also, given their blind box nature, they shouldn't be too expensive, to make it easier for kids/parents to buy multiples.
