Excellent question! You are right, it does come with 3 settings - low, medium, and high. For the high light, the runtime is 4 hours, for medium, it is 7 and for low light, it is 9 hours. So its quite capable, actually!
So my Kindle is very old, and it does not have a built-in backlight. Can I use this Lepower to clip on my Kindle to use as a light source, or is it a stupid idea?
It is actually a great idea! I had one of those older models too, and it was such a pain that I actually gave that to my younger brother and got myself a Paperwhite! Anyways, my only concern is the fact that Lepower is big - not huge, but it will be big for a Kindle. It is also not battery-operated. So my advice would be to look for a smaller lamp that works with a battery, or simply upgrade your Kindle! Newer Basic models come with a built-in backlight!
