Beth, this is fantastic! (I am a plant-based RN & was one of the people that expressed concern about your carnivore diet after your stroke, but with encouragement to educate yourself, rather than judging or insulting your ideas). You are clearly someone that is open to life-long learning and the information out there is both eye-opening and shocking at times. Even doctors are not educated about the role nutrition plays in our health. Bringing this content to the forefront of your channel is a wonderful opportunity to spread the true wellness message. 💝

Welcome to the whole plant based life style! I'm so glad you opened your eyes and on time. I saw your video after you had the stroke and was worried about your decision of continuing with the carnivore diet... didn't mention anything because as a vegan of many years I've learned how meat eaters react when you mention the dangers of their diet. So happy for you and I wish you the best in your new lifestyle. Happy to help you out if you need anything in this new world. 💚💃🌱

I have written and deleted many messages to you about the benefits of a whole food plant based diet. I just felt that there would be no way you’d do such a complete switch but you have and that’s wonderful.
You will find after a while there is an intangible peace that comes with this diet. I didn’t start this for the animals, I started this to keep my brilliant husband alive. But it’s definitely a bonus. I can hardly walk near the meat section of a grocery store now, it stinks like dead animals to me. I fill my cart with gorgeous vegetables and fruit and whole grains and legumes and just can’t figure out why everyone else doesn’t want to eat these beautiful foods.
It’s not the easy road you’re taking, but it’s the cleanest and most beautiful way of living, eating, shopping, prepping food and cooking. It’s just so uplifting in every way!
I recommend reading How Not to Die and the RUclips channel Well Your World as inspiring resources.

I'm curious how long you have been eating this way?
I was whole food plant based vegan for 8 years. I felt the same way you do, I thought I was eating the best food on the planet and felt great until about 6 years in... Started having to really monitor my intake of variety of foods adding supplements to get iron up, etc .. while it brought my iron and B12 up I was still feeling not as strong, and looking grey, losing hair, skin elasticity getting worse.
At first I blamed it on age because I felt I was eating the best way I could but after caving in and including meats the change was so dramatic and I'm 6 mos in eating meats and my health is improving, strength, skin, energy, hair everything. I can't deny the benefits on my health by including meats again. But I didn't start feeling the negative effects until about 6 years after (blaming it first on "it must be my age") but it wasn't, it was the lack of nutrients my body wasn't absorbing from plant food. I ate a variety of whole foods, nuts seeds, avocadoes, tofu, leafy greens, grains, purple sweet potatoes, legumes, lentils, smoothies, including supplements, i was so sad because i lovef that lifestyle but it startimg getting stressful in the end.

I’m on a plant based eating program. I’m pre-diabetic and it truly has helped me for the last two years. I’m not on any meds either. I don’t think I can go back to eating the way I did. This was through my medical provider and it was approved as well. I walked for 3-4 months, 5 miles three times a week and I lost 18 lbs. I’m not where I want to be but I’m definitely headed in the right direction. Good luck, Beth.

Beth, two days ago my husband was told by a cardiologist that he was a prime candidate for a stroke. He was devastated, depressed and feeling helpless. Yesterday I not only saw your headline about stroke recovery but just happened to see a couple random articles about whole foods and avoiding animal fats and dairy. I took those as signs to make a change. I made my husband watch the “Knives over Forks” video you recommended. Although it’s extreme, it gave my husband a sense of being in control. He is now committed to trying a more plant-based diet for a month (the same diet I tried to keep my family on for years until I gave in to the whining from all quarters, but let’s not go there). Thank you, Beth for sharing your story. Best of luck on your health journey.

    • @FiftyPlusBeauty
      @FiftyPlusBeauty  6 месяцев назад +2

Hi Kathy. You don’t know how happy it made me to make your very nice comment. I totally get where your husband is coming from. As after the stroke I did get depressed about the fact I had a stroke as that is kind of a devastating diagnosis. I am so glad that my video helped. You learn more about the benefits of a plant-based diet. I have been plant-based for almost 3 months now and my cholesterol is totally in the normal range and my blood pressure is now normal as well where it was high before. High blood pressure Can be a problem and increases the risk of strokes. God bless you and I wish your husband very well. He has a great person on his team and that’s you!

    • @anniezion
      @anniezion 6 месяцев назад

If a dr tells a patient such thing, then he/she should also suggest lifestyle changes and offer medication! I hope your husband got that, being given such a message could be really scary and give even more burden to the already declined health (blood pressure going up by worrying being one, not getting enough sleep due to the mind spinning when scared and feeling, as you mentioned, helpless)

You are so welcome. I have to admit that my IBS is a bit worse on the plant-based diet but after two months, it seems to be improving. Heard one scientist on a RUclips video discuss why IBS tends to do better on a carnivore diet. He said it’s kind of like the FODMAP diet. In that diet you remove foods which are likely to cause an IBS flareup, and then you introduced them again one by one. He said that on the carnivore diet, since you were avoiding all other foods, except meat, you don’t get any flareups. That kind of made sense to me.

Beth, I find your comments interesting. You say to be careful of what RUclipsrs say, but YOU are one of the RUclipsrs who pushed the carnivore diet, and recommended doctors who support it. While I do not agree with the carnivore diet, diets are not one size fits all. Just because a diet works for you, does not mean it will work for others. As well as HRT. Just because your doctor is recommending you not take it, does not mean others should as well. Each individual needs to weigh the pros/cons. People should consult with their physicians first before following RUclipsr's advice. I wish you the best on your health journey.

I did the WFPB vegan diet, read all of Dr. esselsteins books, Dr. mcDougal, and the likes. I was a firm believer I was eating the best way but about 6 years in my health started to decline, after 8 years I added more healthy fats, iron supplements, better quality B12, healthy fats, plant based protein .. it helped a little but my muscle tone was just gone flabby skin and fat even though I was thin, my energy was fleeting... I started eating meat again and it improved immediately... My muscle tone is improving, my skin is looking better, my hair, my energy, people have been complimenting my skin, I'm lifting weights again, went ketovore and now carnivore (I am a little concerned about heart disease) but I feel so good so who knows but I know WFPB vegan was not enough nutritionally.

I lost my health following a vegetarian diet style. 5 years in and my doctor, after checking my blood etc, wrote out a prescription which read "Steak" 3 x week. He said my body requires meats and eggs and lots of vegetable too. Now, I'm 74, on no medication, CAC score of 0 (=absolutely no blockage) and very active. Solid carnivore with lots of fat would make me not feel well too but a good balance like the Mediterranean diet fits my heritage. (5'4", 135 lbs, Irish and European decent) Intermittent fasting is fantastic too.

Everything fresh and whole! I’m doing Vegan this month for “Veganuary” and then will switch from Keto (my normal diet) to Mediterranean.

It's amazing how many long time vegans have shifted completely in the opposite direction with their diets (going zero plant food) after losing their health being vegan and then regaining their health, often in a relatively short time span. In the end though, everyone needs to figure these things out for themselves.

I tried the carnivore diet and my bad cholesterol more than doubled in just 2 months. My doctor was extremely shocked and I went off it, pronto! I felt foolish being a university educated person & falling for something that goes against all the long term research. I still do high protein, but I include ALL the whole food, healthy non-refined carbs and tofu, fish, chicken, egg whites, edemame, greek yogurt, protein powder....basically, the Mediterranean diet.
We really need to speak up and defend health and longevity over "thin" and "beautiful". When are we going to stop being so obsessed with body perfection to the expense of health...in the grave?

Beth, I am so happy to hear you are doing well and that you are making the change to a WFPB lifestyle. I’ve been following you for a few years and at time wanted to comment on your diet but feel everyone needs to find their own way. I had RA and horrible lab work and was able to get off all my meds and clean up my bloodwork by changing my diet 7 yrs ago at 58 - it was hard but no regrets. Going out to dinner with family is the hardest but I pack some beans in my purse order a salad and I’m good. Please though you do need some healthy fats to metabolize the nutrients you are eating so please don’t eliminate all plant based fats.
Also your comment on loneliness- yes, I felt that also where I use to live - recently moved to a community in Fla that will allow me to be more active and it has a Huge social network to get involved in which I look forward to joining. Sending big hugs 🥰

Congratulations on your move to Florida! It is very exciting that you were moving to a place with the sense of community built in. That will be wonderful not only in terms of how you feel, but also in terms of improving your overall health. Thank you also for explaining that you went plant-based seven years ago and that you have no regrets. That is wonderful that you were able to get off your RA meds. I also used to suffer from RA and I am very familiar with how tricky those meds are. Truly awful really. God bless you and I wish you great success in your new home!

Beth, it's a really good thing, when one is able to change ones mind, re-evaluate things and do the research. It shows of intelligence! It's important to mention not one fits all, but most of us wont do bad with greens & good protein, fish being a major one. I do not think you need to be afraid of avocado though (the link you showed) The brain needs some fat, coming from greens is a good thing. It's a djungle out there with all the recommendations, but extremes in one way or the other, is usually never good for anyone. I will follow your journey from now on, all the best to you and thank you for sharing this in an honest & well thought through way!🌸

I think genetics plays a large part in how your body responds to things. Some people can have a terrible diet, smoke and drink alcohol and live to a ripe old age. Others can do all the "right" things and die at 40. Since I don't know which category I fall into I will try to eat healthy, not smoke or drink and exercise. I never was into diets that eliminated categories of food except junk food. Everyone is different, but I strongly believe that everyone should get a checkup done yearly as well. That way, if the choices you're making are not good for you, it will give you a heads up before it's too late.

Going carnivore has LITERALLY saved my life. No longer on six meds, all for chronic pain and depression and anxiety. All gone. Down over 55 pounds. No longer living in my bed. Finding out I was carb intolerant and that my body was desperately needing essential protein and fat has given me my life back.
I’m out going on 3 mile walk, working out in the gym, taking vacations, hiking, just being a living person instead of just taking up space in my bed. Carnivore means LIVING for me, living and thriving.

Hi Beth! I’m glad to hear about all your research and your new health journey. Back in 2011 my husband and I watched Forks over Knives and decided for our health it would be good to give it a try. We ate plant based for about 4 years. It was great for my husband but I ended up with severe osteoporosis at 58. Not sure if the diet had anything to do with it but I don’t think it helped. I consulted a naturopathic physician and he recommended basically the Mediterranean diet for my osteoporosis. He said I absolutely need to eat all kinds of animal proteins such as beef, pork, lamb, chicken and fish, lots of vegetables, beans, legumes and no sugar. My last dexa scan showed improvement thankfully. We still eat lots of vegetables but now add in meat proteins. Just wanted to share cuz in our household what was good for one wasn’t good for the other. Thanks for sharing your story and new health journey, I wish you the best. 😊❤️

I wish you all the best, Beth! We're all unique and should follow what works best for us. Carnivore always seemed too extreme for me. I've been vegetarian and vegan, done Atkins and Mediterranean. I grew up on Kool-aid, Tang, and PopTarts, and all vegetables came from a can. I wish I knew better (but I was just a kid)! In my adult life I've been very health-obsessed. Currently doing Keto, which eliminates processed junk food, sugar, and simple carbs, while still eating a a variety of veggies, plus meats and healthy fats. It makes the most sense to me. Food choices these days can feel complicated. Best wishes to us all!

Wow Beth, I'm speechless, you seem to be doing a complete 360? And going old school to boot. I personally think the Covid shot was much more irresponsible than to call the Carnivore diet irresponsible but that is just me and to just quit your HRT's? Well hope that works for you but I think you are going to notice a lot of things that are not necessarily going to be positive. Also be careful adding in so much aerobic exercise, along with your lifting , it can tend to raise your cortisol level and is harder on mature women that need more rests so that our body can repair itself. I do wish you well and will watch your journey but totally not convincing enough for me to change what i am doing. Feel too good to do that. And I am older than you.

@vickinparadox I totally agree with you. Beth has done 180° turn around and I don't think she has all the facts and is acting prematurely. I have made a suggestion that she interview a carnivore expert like Dr. Ken Barry. You are also correct about the aerobic exercise and the Covid vaccine. If she took it, most likely her stroke was due to that and not from the carnivore diet. Even the pharmaceutical companies have recently admitted that the Covid vaccine could cause heart inflammation, and stroke among other things. She can check that info out on the CDC website.

Beth, I'm glad you're doing much better. I cannot imagine eating meat only. I only eat a very small size portion of meat or fish for supper. I do eat dairy in small amounts. I intermit fast, only eat 2 times a day, so when I have my black coffee 1st thing in the morning, I do add a sprinkle of "real" salt in it to replace electrolytes. However, I am 67 and do not have high blood pressure. Baby aspirin is a little controversial for me. A while ago I started taking one every day and a week later started bruising for no reason. I do take fish oil, so I had to make a choice of which to let go, so for now it is the aspirin. Fish oil can be controversial also as far as thinning the blood. But it must have some effect because I am told to get off of it a week before any procedure.
Best of luck to good health going forward in this new year. God has us all in HIS hand. 💯!

Since I had a stroke though, the doctor wants my blood to be thin so I avoid future blood clots. God bless you!

Beth… We do need some salt in our diet but not table salt that is highly processed and bleached. Check into Redman‘s real salt. Potassium and sodium work together.
We need 2300 mg and 4700 mg of potassium every day. Not enough sodium can actually make you feel weak, and your blood pressure could go too low and you could experience vascular, stiffness, and insulin resistance.

The fact that you continue to grow and do your research is wonderful. Unfortunately, we live in a world that is now, more than ever, all about money. Even if we all had our own farms, the soil is depleted of minerals we need for healthy hormones, and the air and water are filled with toxic chemicals. I think being on Carnivore for a bit, to get rid of diabetes (or any metabolic disease) can be a good thing. It does not mean anyone needs to follow that plan (or any plan) for the long term. People switching to carnivore, vegan, and all plans in between, have probably given up processed foods (which is the real culprit) if they're being "clean". None of us need sugar or an Impossible burger on the daily. Also, most docuseries on health/food have their own agenda. Did you see "You Are What You Eat"? I felt it was marketing/trying to push the Impossible/Beyond Meat companies and Mykonos "cheese" rather than really trying to help people. There was some good information, but we still have to read between the lines and think for ourselves.

@@weirdandlazy1 I’ve tried it all. I was actually clean vegan for a few years and couldn’t figure out why I was so sick. My IBS is 80-90% resolved as long as I eat an animal based diet. I really grateful. The pain, bloating and fear of leaving my house because I needed to be near a bathroom was miserable. I even ran fevers during the flare ups due to the inflammation. Unexpected other blessings of eating animal based have been reduced joint pain, and normal healthy weight without really trying. I know many thrive on plant based diets with lots of fiber. I’m just not one of those people. ❤️

I was vegan for seven years and developed IBS-D in year 6. I blame the excessive amount of greens I was eating ( 50/50 starch solution) Even after I went back to a ‘balanced’ diet IBS followed. I tried everything, probiotics, gut health yoghurt, fermented foods I read so many books on the topic but it got no better. I developed severe anxiety’s about leaving the house. In desperation I started carnivore and six weeks later no more IBS. That was seven months ago and I am completely cured of IBS thank God.
I can understand why Beth started a plant based diet after her stroke. It must have been scary. The ‘evidence’ for reversal of heart disease is not solid though. Many vegans have questioned it, even outspoken vegan Vegan gains. But I wish her all the luck ❤️

Personally, it is quite frustrating because none of the doctors seem to agree, and no one can find the reason.

Some risk factors noted on this presentation: previous hypertension, if your BP is over 140/90 then it was not well controlled hypertension. Also HRT is contraindicated in women with cardiovascular disease, like hypertension or hyperlipidemia. Finally any structural abnormality of heart like a PFO will increase risk of TIA. The plaques in the brain are an accumulation over the years- you cannot say directly related to carnivore unless you have the fortune of having a MRI brain pre-diet change Also have you done a CARDIAC CALCIUM SCORE test, checked your carotids? That would be interesting to know.

In 2023, for the first time in about 14 years, I have not gotten sick. I used to have to go onto an antibiotic for something or other every 3 months. This is working for me, but I think we all need to do what is right for ourselves. No one is going to fund a study on Carnivore because there is no money to be made from it. I think the body can heal itself if not too far in a state of disease. There is a lot of vested interest in people being sick sadly. All the best to you!

Hi Beth, I’m on the fence about going on Carnivore. I actually feel better now that I am eating more steak/protein. I LOVE butter (grass-fed A/2). Also, think about this, the heart is the hardest working muscle in the human body. What do muscles need? PROTEIN. But like I said, I am on the fence. This is only new thinking of mine as I have AFib and some/mild calcium in my lower descending as I throw off high cholesterol. I’ve spoken with Caldwell Esselsyn’s office and have his book. It is a great book. I look forward to your updates! Dr. Esselstyn says “no oil” but one of my cardiologists (I have 3: Interventional, EP, & HF)…the HF doctor who has a Wiki page tells me to go on a LOW INFLAMMATION diet called the Mediterranean Diet. This Dr. (Northwestern’s TOP Heart Failure surgeon) is highly renowned. Maybe look into Mediterranean Diet as well but this diet advocates Olive Oil whereas Esselstyn says no oil. Confusing…

How to give it up, I don’t know! Also, my Chads-VASC score is either 0 or 1. But I am on Eliquis due to the AFib. I am having a Catheter Ablation 2/14 to hopefully fix my heart and get off the meds. The biggest thing I am doing for myself is giving up mostly all sugar (not that I ate a lot before) but I am really dwindling it down. Sugar/bread/processed foods/etc. SUGAR is a HUGE Inflammation cause. And AFib is an inflammatory disease. All the best to you! The cows you are eating got their protein from eating the plants that I am eating … and all foods have some protein in them, yes, including salads, which can have a bunch of other nutrients. Oils give food flavor and extra calories, NOT nutrition. Forks over Knives is a great documentary and so is “What the Health”.

Thank you so much for your comments and I know it is confusing. I have been the most confused as one my doctors will say one thing only to be contradicted by the next doctor. Although I do have a small hole in my heart, upon further imaging, they found it was too small to even have caused a blood clot to go through. They are no longer thinking that is the problem. the reason my IBS was so good on cardboard is similar to why the Fat diet works. FODMAP diet encourages you to stop certain plants that are known to cause problems. When you become carnivore eat plants, it’s like naturally on a FODMAP diet. The problem with carnivore is that it is very high and saturated fat. As a result, my cholesterol zoomed upward, and I had a stroke.

Hi Beth, I am glad that you have changed your diet. I remember seeing your video where you were going carnivore and being really concerned for you. My partner always ate a lot of meat and did weight training, very little cardio and he got several mini strokes and now has dementia. I've been plant based most of my life (even before it was trendy!) but I have had times where I've eaten meat/fish/chicken. I think it can be included as part of a healthy diet and helps stabilise blood sugar. I don't think it has to be ALL OR NOTHING - small amounts of good quality protein should be ok. However, this plant-based diet with lots of veg and whole-grains seems to work best for me. I have IBS also, but I think it's the sugar I eat, the cold weather & stress that sets it off most of the time. And maybe a huge meal with loads of fiber is also not the best. But as you know IBS varies - one day you get away with everything, another day the smallest thing can affect the gut. Congratulations on sorting out the stroke and doing an 'about-turn' in your diet, also not being afraid to admit you were wrong by following YTers advice, even if they were doctors. Happy New Year Beth and good health xoxo
