  • How to Reverse Heart Disease FAST! - I Took the Dr. Esselstyn Reverse Heart Disease Program!
On August 15, I had a stroke after having been on the KETO and then the Carnivore diets. Both of these diets were extremely high in animal products and saturated fats. Although after my stroke, I initially decided to remain on the carnivore diet, since that time I have studied the research extensively and made the personal decision to switch from the carnivore diet to a whole foods plant based diet.
In this video I share information about why I am making the change and also information about a heart disease reversal course Alan and I will be taking very soon.
If you have any opinions about this, or anything you’d like to add, I hope you’ll share the information in the comments section below the video. That way we can help each other! XXOO Beth

Very well done video. I had a stroke back in 2009 and damaged part of my vision in my left eye. I went to library found dr esseltyn's book changed my diet immediately. With in two weeks changed all my numbers to heart healthy numbers lost about 15 pounds and have been eating plant based since. I'm now 64 and I'm on zero meds mountain bike daily work a very physical job and feel amazing. My eye damage has improved, which the eye doctor said would never happen, and my eye sight also improved. which usually never happens as you age. Just wanted you to know it really works and it works long term . I'm glad you found the truth about heart health it can be very confusing topic. Good luck on your journey. I subscribed to follow your success, I know its going to be great.

I recently had a hospital scare after being on carnivore for three weeks, and decided no more for me. I am whole food plant based to stay. I do not know what I was thinking , as my intial thought was to get back to plant based, but got swayed by all the you tube channels and thought it would be a good way to go. I am lucky to not have had a stroke or heart attack but I will never eat that way again. It scared the heck out of me. A commentor on my channel pointed me to your channel and I am so happy they did. I have good news you can have peanut butter - fat free peanut butter powder is available! You add water to make it into a paste. They remove all the oil and you are left with just the peanut - it has a really good flavour. It’s called PB2 peanut butter powder . It’s an American product - we can get it in Australia so it should be freely available for you.

I understand your passion to find a diet that will reverse your heart disease. I cannot imagine how scary it was to have a stroke. We were in shock. How can this be???? It just goes to show that we ALL have to find our paths. I truly hope this diet will be perfect for you. I think so too! I wouldn’t recommend that anyone goes through a stroke to try to change their life, but in my case, I think it was really a blessing. I probably have some residual effects from the stroke, may be a bit of memory loss at times, but I really think, the stroke was a gift to me to change the dangerous path I was on. I was just telling my husband Alan last night that thank God for that small stroke because if I had not had that in another year or two years, I could’ve had a major stroke in my life would’ve been immeasurably changed. I feel very lucky and thank you Michael for your nice comment. I appreciate your good thoughts.

Actually, I found out it just wasn’t the one stroke I had had, I had actually had 4 to 6 tiny pinpoint strokes sometime in the past. That got my attention, and really caused me to dive into the research more. Apparently if you have lots of tiny, pinpoint strokes, overtime, it can lead to dementia. Ouch!

The problem is there is no real link between cholesterol and heart attack or stroke. Dr. Esselstyn and cronie's epidemiologic studies are seriously flawed. If one looks into the UNBIASED research, it is the unnatural, man made seed oils/omega 6/lineolic acid , etc. fats that are linked to pathology, not saturated animal fats. The issue is not meat, and animal products. I don't think one has to be extreme in either direction surrounding them. 3 years ago this lady was doing an interview with Dr. Ken Berry and condemning documentaries like Forks over Knives, and this philosophy b/c she was eating that way and was experiencing multiple health issues and weight 200 lbs (per her). I do not understand why she would go back to such an extreme diet that was not working for her - however I do know that the mainstream medical world , particularly cardiology has been captured by the plant based movement. She appears to now be a spokesperson for. I imagine her fear after her stroke allowed her to be manipulated by this movement. This style of eating is not good for anyone long term. I don't think extremely high fat is either. I think finding what works for an individual is best, but that is not what is going on here. She is just promoting another extreme agenda.
The only thing low LDL is correlated with is increased mortality and morbidity. Sadly, those cholesterol numbers are not what are making you or anyone 'heart attack proof'. Other things you and others have/are doing are likely responsible - exercise, good diet (no processed food, no excess sugar, no seed oils, as little PUFA as possible, animal/saturated fat), no smoking, low stress, good social relationships).

Yes, in (some) people because of their genes, their bodies convert the carbs they eat into triglyceride fats. That situation could explain why you and others like yourself like RUclipsr Steak and Butter Gal are able to thrive on those kinds of diets. She too saw much lower triglycerides versus when she were vegan.

@@FiftyPlusBeauty it is not the animal saturated fats causing the disease. It is the up-regulation of TRPV1 in the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin stimulated by sugar. The insulin then restimulates TRPV1 again.
Too much TRPV1 causes too much glucose (sugar) metabolism in the cell leading to oxidation in excess of the cell’s antioxidant supply. TRPV1 on mitochondria in the cell -> too much oxidation of lipids(fat)that we see in atherosclerosis.
Too much TRPV1 in the paraventricular nucleus causes low sodium(hyponatremia) and hypoosmolality that stimulates TRPV4 in the artery. TRPV4 and klf4 in atherosclerosis are markers for the dangerous inflammatory phenotype of the smooth muscle cells of the artery that become the foamy macrophages that ingest the oxidized lipids in atherosclerosis while the smooth muscle cells become osteoblast-like cells and deposit calcium in the artery wall. This transcriptome also has a thin fibrous cap over the plaque lesion at high risk of rupture and stroke.
Doctors in medical school are not taught about transient receptor potential channels that include TRPV1 and TRPV4. The pharmaceutical companies know all about these channels and have unsuccessfully tried to develop a systematic drug to counteract them.

Many of us do this in private but by sharing this journey, you have helped so many of us who may be questioning whether we are doing the right thing. There are carnivore diet influencers who look so fit and healthy eating the way you used to. I wonder for how long. Then I look at Whole Food Plant Based people like Miki Kirk, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. John McDougall, and Dr. T. Colin Campbell, all who are living into their late 80's and 90's and are sharp as a tack and I wonder to myself, "should I be listening to these wise "old" people who have lived and eaten this way for decades and are mostly medication free or the younger carnivore diet influencers who are still in their prime?"

One doctor told me that I needed protein from meat in order to feel better again. I went on the carnivore diet and everything got better except for my cholesterol. It went up. Beth, I'm hoping your new plan is just what you need. My vegan friend loaned me Forks over Knives and actually gave me a copy of How Not To Die. I've glanced at it but not read it too much. I'm trying the Keto diet (according to Dr. Westman) for 3 weeks because I'm just desperate to find something I can stay with. May God bless you with great health. You certainly have done your research.

Hi. Cinnie. It’s always nice to hear from you and I’m so glad you found a diet which is working for you. If you have a chance, do you watch forks over knives. It is amazingly entertaining and kind of fun to watch! I am so with you on Michael Gregor’s s book though. I purchased How Not to Die and it just seemed like it would be reading the Bible! Lol! I ended up getting it as an audible book and I can handle it that way. His books are chalk full of great info, but sometimes I think it’s too much of a good thing! Lol! God bless you, Cinnie! I hope you have a wonderful week

But if you can cite some studies, I’d love to read them, at least to get another scientific perspective.

You have changed my way of thinking 100% and I am so appreciative. Will be starting this diet ASAP.
Thank you for this. Are you not eating protein at all anymore in the way of meats?

Hi Susan. No, I am not eating any meat at all for protein. I will be doing a video about that soon as the research shows we Americans think we need way too much protein. Am so happy you will be joining me in this. You’ll be surprised at how much weight you can lose on the Whole Foods plant-based diet. I didn’t really need to lose any weight and I’ve lost a couple of pounds. My husband, Alan has lost 15 pounds which he did need to lose on this eating plan. He is very happy.

Thanks for sharing, Beth. My blood numbers are always better on plant based. I probably need to cut down on avocados and nuts. Shame about your lovely peanut butter sandwich but maybe when you're a few months on the program you can ease up and have the occasional treat. I'm never totally perfect on my plant-based diet. I enjoy eating it much more than meat-based. I happen to love vegetables - zucchini (peeled) is one that never affects my IBS. I also make sure beans are well soaked and cooked (pressurised is best) to minimise IBS problems. Small frequent meal, easy on the raw. I used to like Dr. Neal Barnard but found he was too low on fats. I need some in my diet. Good health to you for 2024 and beyond xoxo

I came to your channel for the beauty tips and I’m staying after this video, nothing like a real health scare to really make you reconsider everything huh?I’ve been plant based for nearly 8 years and people keep telling me that I look a lot younger. Just last Sunday a lady asked me my age (41) and she was in shock telling me I look late 20s (I don’t think I look that much younger) anyways, Dr Esselstyn is one of the first doctors I started following after watching Forks over knives and that image of one his patient’s arteries is what comes to my mind whenever I start doubting my diet. Covid did play a little number on my nervous system but so it did to many people regardless of their diet. I also think even if you’re plant based is very important to supplement, you could have the perfect diet but soils are just depleted, produce is not as nutritious anymore. And some of us genetically need more nutrients than other people, so don’t neglect supplementation. I’ve read b12 is also related to strokes so have a look at that.

YES YES YES Please , more info ....anything you can share about this. My story is similar to yours except for the stroke but heart disease & especially stroke run in our family. I was on Keto for years then kept trying to do Carnivore but I dont like meat too much. I mostly love dairy products. I have gotten higher cholesterol & been put on statins. I feel tired & sluggish. My husband kept saying he didn't think the keto or carnivore were safe & kept suggesting to me the Mediterranean diet. I am going to start eating fruits & veggies starting tomorrow!
