From what I saw, I’d go: 5. Back in Action 4/10 4. You’re Cordially Invited 5/10 3. Henry Danger The Movie 5/10, watched it a tiny bit as a kid, and I kinda felt… a little nostalgic? Especially at the end 👀 2. Dog Man 8/10 - never read Dog Man, only Captain Underpants in elementary, but DreamWorks delivered imo 1. The Colors Within 9/10 - it was my most anticipated film of the year, and it did not disappoint. Naoko Yamada never does imo. I recommend this one Austin! Also saw W&G last year, I thought it was solid, tho I’m not huge on W&G. I gave it a 7/10
@@AustinBurke it’s playing in theaters rn, maybe not in every theater, but if there’s a showing near you, I def recommend it (also did you ever check out The First Slam Dunk?)
Better Man, The Brutalist, Companion, and Den of Thieves 2 were all bangers in my opinion. One of Them Days and Presence were pretty good too. Damn good January
Found you by happenstance and I am so pleased I have. I really like how you don't motormouth your way through the commentary and don't jump up and down as if you have ants in your pants New subscriber here. Thank you
The only movie I saw that you didn't see in January was Brave the Dark. It was a pretty good, inspiring true story of a great teacher helping a student.
I love how Austin has a movie on here that takes place entirely on a plane and yet he saves the words "lands", "flight", and "turbulence" for when he talks about Presence 😂 Here my ranking: #9 - Henry Danger: The Movie (terrible Nickelodeon movie that I tortured myself with) #8 - Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare (There's potential here but it felt very half baked) #7 - Flight Risk (Mel Gibson made this? Huh?! What?! Nooooo) #6 - Presence (Filmed competently but also hard to connect to, I had to remind myself I was watching a ghost movie) #5 - Back in Action (Totally fine action film that I'll forget by February - whoops there it goes) #4 - Wolf Man (Very underwhelming, I think I'll like this less with time) #3 - The Damned (Nice Dollar Store version of Rob Eggers but that ending was just - whaaaa?!) #2 - Wallace & Gromit (Big big W&G fan here so I had a blast) #1 - Companion (Love love loved it. Give us more Sophie Thatcher please.) I'm going to watch Better Man soon for sure
I saw only three movies so far in January. Wallace and Gromit - (8/10) Henry Danger: The Movie (7/10) Back in Action - (5/10) I going to see Dog Man tmrw as my final movie of January. I’m excited. Also I’m shocked you didn’t see Brave the Dark. It was an Angel Studios film based on a true story which looks actually really good
Honestly not seen any 2025 movies yet, as usual Europe is months behind so stuff like Brutalist premiers here in like a week, so january-releases are usually just solid films from the previous year lol. "Companion" has just started in the theaters so I'm tempted to go see that, I can see why people are saying It's the best this month has to offer.
Here and Presence are both films that had 10/10 trailers that made me SO excited to see them. I liked Presence a lot more than Here but neither lived up to my anticipation
I see the parallels between 'Companion' and 'Strange Darling', but I think 'Companion' is much better, smarter, and far less contrived. Definitely my most unexpected and pleasant surprise of January 2025.
People ask why studio comedies aren't getting made with the same regularity they used to, when 'You're cordially invited' is Exhibit A. Your description could apply to most of these modern comedies. There are exceptions of course: Quiz Lady, DnD (2023), Barbie, but those are few and far between.

Didn't see any movies this January due to how bad that month can be for movies each year. Next month on February will be better with Captain America brave New world along with Paddington in Peru we are finally getting good movies next month
I watched The Wolf Man, I just came from the theater.. and it was MEH! More bad than good, was like a mid horror tv movie u tuned on the middle of the night! I don't know what they tried to say, poor Julia, she's great! But her talented was wasted, also I felt she didn't stand out , was an average performance, maybe cause the director! One of the worst wolf man movies!!
What does being an American have to do with not knowing who freakin' Robbie Williams is? You people didn't have cable? You didn't have Mtv? He's from England, not Mars...
@AustinBurke Jesus, dude Robbie Williams is not a star in America?? In your house maybe. 2001? What's this argument? The Beatles played in the 60s. You didn't hear about them either? Stop being uneducated and smug 😂
The movie grossed $2m in the US and Canada combined, which makes it one of the biggest box office flops of the last 20 years in the United States. You can lie to me all you want, but the NUMBERS and number of people I’ve seen say the exact same thing back me up. If anyone is uneducated here, it is obviously you because everything that has happened with this movie backs up my argument. You need to do some soul searching because you’re far removed from reality with your nonsense.
@@AustinBurke I do not agree that the movie's box office is a consequence of his notoriety. I know so many people that love his music and were not interested in this movie. It's not a conventional movie, it's a CGI monkey ffs. They took a big risk and it just didn't pay off.
It is absolutely part of the fact that AMERICANS DONT KNOW WHO HE IS, add in the cgi monkey, and you have yourself a bomb. I’ve asked so many people I know in life and on the internet, and everyone tells me the same thing. Most reviewers have told me the same thing. I’m not sure if you’re in denial or what, but that’s just how it is. Look, the movie is great, but he just isn’t a star in America, plain and simple.
It’s SO sad that lots of people never cheked out “Better Man” in theaters. I think is super good! One of my favorites of the decade.
I heard it was a garbage movie.
@ give it a shot! You may be surprised! 😁
January was good to animated films. Wallace and Gromit, The Colors Within, and Dog Man. All three were good to great.
