    Thanks for the playthrough! I ALMOST backed this but there's a lot going on with the boards, cards, skills, etc. A lot to keep track of. I love how the zoomed-in maps are revealed as you move through them and evolve as you defeat enemies. Keeps up a real element of surprise. I also wish more games had a soundtrack and indicated when to play certain tracks. I love that!

    Such a great production. Everything looks beautiful. I love how easy it looks to travel and then zoom in on a location and access the tactical map. Combats look fun and I really like that each enemy has a different “anatomy” having nodes to neutralize and that doing so can modify the strength of the enemy (i.e., injuries).
    The fact that all miniatures are preprinted adds a lot to the experience. Really excited to receive this one soon. Great playthrough Mike.
    Are you going to do a more story / NPC focused before the review?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +5

      I’m thinking about it, though to be honest the NPC-focused stuff is a little wonky in solo. You are supposed to have another character acting out the NPC, and then reply organically and get different results based on your replies. With solo I just kind of read all the results on the card and move on 🤷‍♂️

      If you are experienced with dungeon crawlers and boss battlers I don't think you'll have any trouble. It's not nearly as complicated as something like Gloomhaven.

    • @deathjester6406
      @deathjester6406 Месяц назад +2

      Came here to say the same! I think this should be the baseline. It's not over produced. So many games are almost unplayable, because they are so fiddely, especially in the dungeon crawling realm. So, please make this the standard, so we can focus more on the gameplay and not on the "tracking all my tokens, and modifications, etc."!!!

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +5

      @deathjester6406 if every game uses this as the baseline, then every game will need to cost $200+ like this one does, meaning they will be out of reach of many gamers to buy. I think having some games that are more deluxified and some that are a bit more bare bones is exactly how the industry should continue to be.

    • @Vypper7
      @Vypper7 Месяц назад +6

      @@OneStopCoopShop yep, makes sense, they can’t all be like this. But it’s great when the “deluxification” actually improves the ergonomics of the gameplay experience instead of being just tons of plastic minis like a lot of the > $200 kickstarters nowadays. And Cody’s updates during the campaign are also exemplary on how a campaign should be run.

    A game is not over produced when it is produced to the standards of the designer and clearly stated as a design objective.
    If you buy any luxury goods from a car to a whiskey you can say it is over produced for your tastes but not over produced if it is as advertised, Cody is selling an overall quality experience and not added features just for the sake of it.
    There are many games I feel are to "rich" for my tastes e.g. for most games I prefer standees over more boxes of unpainted plastic, this gane is the exception especially as I am hoping family and friends will share it's experiences with me, like renting a film in UHD as opposed to HD or SD, or Vinyl vs spotify.

    Nice presentation, Mike. Thank you very much.
    Edit: is there space for sleeves?

    • @MattMorey
      @MattMorey Месяц назад +3

      There’s an answer on BGG from the creator regarding sleeves. Something like: you can sleeve the commonly shuffled decks and there’s room. Or if you sleeve it all (which prolly isn’t necessary) then you would use the card index lids for storage as well, but then there would be massive lid lift in the game box.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +4

      Sleeves would be tough (the holders are stuffed), but you only shuffle two decks (threat and exploration)
      Two-handed isn’t too bad, once you get used to the play. Turns are separated, so it’s not like you need to do a lot with one character while another is going

    @morgaknightgames Месяц назад +8

    Watching this really hammered home why I didn't back this. Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love to play it sometime. I just couldn't justify the purchase given the mandatory minis (this is when I started dramatically cutting down on mini pledges in favor of standees and meeples) and I could tell that the combat in this would feel... Grindy? I think grind is the word I'm looking for. Also as someone with a healthy TTRPG group, getting this to the table would be unlikely.
    Again, I do think the production is top notch, and I love a lot of things it's doing. It's just a bad fit for my collection at this time.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +1

      Combat hasn’t felt grindy at all to me so far. You don’t fight that often (many locations are just NPCs and side quests and such). And when I’m not filming a battle takes maybe 10 minutes.

    • @commandershepard9920
      @commandershepard9920 Месяц назад +2

      Oh I totally get what you mean. For me, this will be a great fit for my collection.
      But take something like Death May Die. That game gets crazy good reviews and it's a great game, but if I had it I would never play it. I don't like the Cthulhu theme, so I'd never play it for that reason. And as good as it is, there are other miniature heavy games which have mechanics that I prefer a lot more (Imperial Assault, Gears of War, Terminator Genisys to name a few). So it's a great game that wouldn't suit a purpose in my collection.
      This game fits well because even though I do play TTRPGs, I can't solo them. Though I *am* a bit concerned that it's a big epic campaign game. Those games tend to be hard for me to finish in general.

    • @iam1hobbit
      @iam1hobbit Месяц назад +5

      As someone who tested the entirety of the game (so of course take my opinion with a grain of salt), I can say that the combat never once felt grindy or repetitive. Combats go smoothly and only get better (both more interesting and more challenging) as the game progresses.

    • @bertranddecoster2045
      @bertranddecoster2045 Месяц назад +1

      @@iam1hobbit If I may ask you a question? I C/C something I wrote on BGG : I am sorry, but I am quite underwhelmed by the combat part, specifically with the strategy : "wait just outside enemy range, until they finally activate, they are walking close to you, now you have several turns where you can freely hit them because all they are doing is charging up their threat". In the first fight, the mobs did not attack a single time I believe. Is it just these mobs, or were there some very lucky draws? Is the Threat Limit Break supposed to prevent you from camping just outside range?
      Also, I am really confused as why weak points for the mobs (and the practice dummy) are designed to be avoided. Shouldn't we want to hit weak points (like with the boss)?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +1

      @bertranddecoster2045 these are some concerns I have as well. Yes, in many combats you are punished for camping with limit breaks, and yes these were lucky draws, but kiting and waiting can be valid strategies so far. I’m still evaluating how this evolves later in the campaign

      I think that's right (my podcast co-host is borrowing my copy). It's supposed to link to their website with the music. But when I got mine that part of the site wasn't ready yet...

    The production level is absolutely ridiculous. It looks like a really great game, but how about replayability?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah, that’s one point I’ll mention in my review. Once you’ve played through all the quests in a given section, while the combats will play out differently and the paths/classes fight differently, you aren’t going to see much new narrative and exploration-wise

    This vs Agemonia?

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  Месяц назад +2

      Yes to both 😜
      But in all seriousness, so far arydia has the better combat, agemonia has the better location exploration and narrative.
      Another big difference is that agemonia has very strict timers that might annoy adventure gamers who want to explore, while arydia is much more free form in its non-combat sections

    • @Fadeslayer
      @Fadeslayer Месяц назад +2

      @@OneStopCoopShop so I'd love Arydia more BY FAR (I don't despise timer in a combat board - like in Rogue Angels you'll have timer - but I don't like it when in exploration mode, when I am free roaming)

      Yes, I believe the game will be available soon. You can lookup the publisher Far Off Games. They have an email subscription that will probably send out a blast when they become available. (They send very few emails, BTW, like maybe 1 a year, lol).

    Can't wait for this one! After being quite disappointed by Agemonia and Fateforge, I'm in need of a big campaign to dig into solo (something to coax Aeon Trespass off my table). Fortunately doing Tidal Blades 2 with the wife and about to start Harakiri tomorrow with a mate.

      @cynicismyh8840 I didn't like the writing very much and although I appreciated the way the scenarios tried to prioritise discovery, I thought it was actually handled quite poorly. And the combat was boring, but that was the least of my issues.

      For an alternate opinion, agemonia and Fateforge are both among my favorites this year (though I agree that agemonia’s combat isn’t its best quality)

    $349... and worth every penny?! Wait, the boss is not very boss? Combat seems interesting. Still a fun looking game! A standee version with no advent calendar would be cool too. Very nice, but I would rather pay for a $99 version.

    You mentioned a few times that this game is "over-produced". I don't favor games that do this. It drives up the price, and I prefer better gameplay over artwork, production quality, table presence, etc. This is a great game to look at, but the production choices have driven this game way out of my price range. Too bad, because I like the combat mechanics.
