IT CAN PLAY ACTUAL GAMES?!?!

  • The integrated GPU on Intel's new Kaby Lake processors has big shoes to fill with the HD 530 performing fairly well. The HD 630 therefore was put through the test of playing Grand Theft Auto: V, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOOM, The Witcher 3, League of Legends, Overwatch, and of course, Crysis. How does this bundle graphics card fair against actual games?

      the RX460 isn't bad at all. It can easily beat the 750Ti and it has a respectable overclocking performance and can be unlocked from 896 SC to 1024 SC, which overclocked give you up to 25% more performance. With my XFX RX460 4GB Dual Fan i was able to get over the level of a GTX960!

      Go for it. I mean, if you prefer the red team and don't mind losing out on 1-3 fps in most situations over the 1050, I'd say it's a good option. Be sure to watch for the 4GB version, since the 2GB version just isn't worth it.

    today's igpu's are as good as highend gpu's were a decade ago, which is understandable considering how liitle space they are packing into one die. maybe in the next 10 years igpu's will be able to play games like doom on ultra settings at 1080p at 60fps.

      Technically, you don't. Gaming is kind of a broad term... you probably don't need a discrete GPU to play 2D games. I know plenty of people that get motion sickness from looking at fast-paced 3D anyway, and end up being limited to 2D gaming. And presumably, even some 3D titles work. I don't know why it is that when people talking about gaming on the PC, they assume you want to run really demanding games at high settings. If people can have fun on something as primitive as the NES or a DOS-era computer, why not the HD 630? I mean, sure it might not run a demanding 3D game like Far Cry or something, but then you don't have to play Far Cry to have fun with games on your PC, now do you?

      If he meant to refer to a laptop, then he should've said something like "I'm on the go so it's the best I got". Not because. You can't be "on the go because its the best you got". That would imply that if you had worse, you wouldn't be on the go.

      It's better to have an additional 2 cores in reserve than have the space occupied by the unnecessary iGPU.

    • @fireonawire

      Krytern UK
      The difference in gaming is negligible at best. It's the GPU that matters most and as long as that isn't bottlenecked you won't see any improvement after a certain point. As long as you're playing at a sensible resolution anyway.
      I'd rather have a 6 core 12 thread 4.5GHz CPU rather than a 4 core 8 thread 5GHz cpu with a useless iGPU taking up valuable die space.
      But hey if you want to pay for features you won't use its entirely up to you.

    It's not free you pay for that die space used.

    • @Etheoma
      @Etheoma 7 лет назад +2

      The CPU die is the actual CPU, and die space is the area of the die used for a certain propose. The bigger the die the more expensive it is as for every square millimetre you add you increase the chance of the CPU turning out bad exponentially and having to throw it away and increasing the cost of the good CPU's for the end consumer or the CPU manufacturer has to take a smaller profit.
      That goldish glassy thing in the middle is the CPU die
      images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2013/06/ek-supremacy-precisemount-review/ek-delid-kit-15-1280x1024.jpg
      It's actually upside down all the components are actually on the other side so they can connect up to substrate and be connected upto the motherboard when the CPU is in the socket.
      The other side of the CPU die will looks something like
      infomars.fr/kyro/die//Niagara%20II%20%20(Ultrasparc%20T2).jpg
      Also here is a labelled diagram
      www.hardwarebbq.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/intel-cpu-substrate.png
      The *TIM* is the *Thermal Interface Material* the IHS is the Integrated heat spreader, tbh though it was not really implemented to spread the heat as much as to stop people crushing dies as a heat spreader actually inhibits cooling, kind of an oxymoron really, but if they called it the IPS for Idiot Proof Shield I think some people might take offence and remove it.
      So as I was saying the exponentul increase in cost for every millimetre added is part of the reason that Intels 24 core CPU's cost $4000 also it's because they know they can charge enterprise companies that kind of money realistically they could sell those for $2500 - $3000 and still make a killing but still it is true that it cost more to make 24 core CPU than making 6 x 4 core CPU's by a large margin.

  • @xXDarkxIdealsXx
    @xXDarkxIdealsXx 7 лет назад +1

    For those actually interested in using integrated graphics temporarily dropping that res to 1600x900 and you'll see a quite significant difference. 1080p is a *44% jump* in pixels over 900p which provides a similar fps dip of around ~35-40%. Meaning that games like Crysis that are getting ~20fps average would actually get around ~28fps average at 900p with the same settings in Crysis 3. (And for the record, if you plan to use integrated longer than a few weeks i'd definitely recommend getting a chip like the broadwell i5 5675C or one of the few Skylake chips which have both the Intel Iris Pro graphics (The "Intel NUC" you can buy online that has a mini case and cpu and motherboard built-in for a great portable gaming PC, has the Intel Iris Pro 580 graphics which is easily TWICE the power of the HD 630 on the 7700K) and all these CPUs with Iris Pro also have a built-in eDRAM (usually either 128MB or 256MB) which acts as extra VRAM for the integrated GPU but since it's directly on the chip it becomes SUPER fast compared to your normal system ram (yes, integrated graphics actually uses your SYSTEM RAM for the GPU. iGPU's don't have RAM usually) and makes games a fair bit faster and more reliable in general. Plus if you get a regular GPU later like an RX 460 or GTX 1050 TI or whatever etc.. then that 256MB of eDRAM will actually function as an L4 cache (make sure to turn off the iGPU in options and activate the new GPU. Otherwise your fps will still be shit lol) and in general seems to give up to 5% increase in framerate in many games. In fact you can STILL see Broadwell chips like the i7 5775C (that only runs at like 3.7ghz) still tying with the i7 7700K that runs at 4.5ghz in many games!

    Intel's HD graphics architecture was licenced from Nvidia. Essentially meaning the On-board igpu is running slightly modified Nvidia architecture. AND the HD 630 graphics have 48 graphics cores at around a 1.1GHz max boost, meaning the performance will be very similar to slightly better than a GT 610 at best, which also runs 48 graphics cores at around a slightly slower speed. Only difference being the increased cast latency on the memory due to it not being on board.

  • @MarceloTezza
    @MarceloTezza 7 лет назад +1

    Hi, one thing i did to my 4790k to improve substancialy the performance of its igpu hd4600 was to downclock the processor clock since it does not make a real difference because it feeds much faster the gpu than it can take advantage of, and overclocked my igpu to 1.7 ghz. Another thing is in my case DDR3, i've added a 2400 mhz CL10 memory, i gained in most games like Crysis(the first one) almost 10 fps on average.
    I would really like to see this hd 630 on better conditions, which means a much better ddr4 4000 or higher with low CL lowered cpu clocks speeds watercooled and overclocked.
    Thanks!

    Just beware that lower end HD graphics with less shaders (eg: HD2500, HD4000)won't benefit from dual channel as even on slow memory as the card can't process data fast enough to require more bandwidth.

      +Gasoline Stoner Of course it'll run better in 720P. But I'd rather test it at what resolution most gamers typically play at (according to Steam survey) to demonstrate its capabilities. Obviously if you want to firm up those numbers, you can drop the resolution.

    • @FinnLovesFP
      @FinnLovesFP 7 лет назад

      Ah i see. but still. if using Integrated graphics like Intel HD, never try to have the resolution set to community standards. for low profile GPU's or Intel HD or AMD APU's. I never go higher than 720p. I like to make the game as playable as possible.

    • @UFDTech
      @UFDTech  7 лет назад +1

      So I'm not supposed to test something that the community is typically using? I'm supposed to use something else? Until the community that uses the thing I leave out disagrees with that choice. 1080P covers 720p since you can assume better performance at the lower resolution, but you can't guess how much worse 1080p would be if I only tested 720p.

    The best igpu by intel is the iris pro series, not intel hd series, incase anyone was wondering. The best iris pro is roughly between the performance of 7th and 8th gen consoles. I'm rockin' hd 4000 on my Dell Latitude e6230 (it has the i5-3320m)and at 900p (external display) it runs almost all 7th gen games at almost console settings (with some exceptions being higher, actually).

    On Overwatch did you even try turn the render scale down to 50%? Because on a i7 laptop CPU, it runs at a more solid 50-60 FPS. It isn't the latest cpu on the market but it is about a 2 year old cpu. Now I wonder what the desktop equivalent would be

    • @UFDTech
      @UFDTech  7 лет назад

      +Polrous No, I didn't. Because I was attempting to see how it ran actually at 1080P. Render scale and lower resolution would increase the frame rate. The point wasn't to see how you could get games to be playable on the HD 630, but how the HD 630 handled games at a particular resolution set. Different objectives which led to different methods.

    I have used the HD 530 in my 6700K for gaming while I was between graphics cards. To my surprise it even overclocked well! But at 1080p it struggled in modern games apart from the likes of Rocket League. 900p was the sweet spot (with a hefty OC to 1450MHz mind you). Normally I just use it for an additional display, but not for actual games.

    Hi,
    I wish you can answer to my question. Ok, games run at a resonable FPS and some of them are playable. I am building a gaming PC and buying components every month. Right now I am at the last step, the GPU. I can't affoard it in 1 month so I have to wait 2 instad. My question is: am I going to harm my CPU in a certain way during long periods of time playing games on the intel HD graphics card? The games I am reffering to are CS GO, World of Tanks, Path of Exile and other low requiremant games like Half Life 2, Dishonored, Cod mw 2, 3.
    The CPU that I have is the Intel i7 skylake 6700k.
    Thank you for this video you provided me with some good info and I hope you or someone will give me an answer about my doubt (of getting my CPU harmed by playing long periods of time)

    Actualy, not all HD630 performs the same. Take i7-7700 and i5-8400 for example, the HD630 embeded in them both have a base frequency of 350MHz, but 7700 has a max dynamic frequency of 1.15GHz whereas 8400 can only reach 1.05GHz. That's also the reason I have to give up 8400 and choose 7700.
