- For years I have wanted a blast cabinet! Today I unbox and give an honest review of the Eastwood Benchtop Blast Cabinet. This little blast cabinet is their entry level and smallest blast cabinet. It's designed to fit on top of your work bench so you can media blast virtually anywhere, including your moms basement.

Great review, very informative, no music, and straight to the point. I liked the advice about the cabinet door opening from the top.
amen!
Just bought the same one a couple weeks ago... Media arrived today, so i will be blasting soon. What size compressor are you using out of curiousity? Nice job bud
Thanks! the compressor im using is not one id recommend, Im getting by with an old small craftsman 15 gallon. It has enough PSI but it constantly runs when i use it.
I just almost the exact same one at Princess Auto here in Canada. It came preassembled and siliconed on sale for $130 Canadian. It doesn't come with the light, but it has the switch for it. They changed the design of the top window to fit into the frame with two rotating latches (on on each side) to keep it secure. For the price, I can't really complain about it.
I've been wanting one of those for years! It really does a nice job. Like how you have a whole setup in the basement.
Thank you! It's a good cabinet and I'm so glad I finally have a full set up
What kind of compressor are you running for it? Great video!
Looks like a great little cabinet. The lack of sealant is a huge downside though because heaven forbid someone puts it together and thinks they don't need it. Done a lot of blasting and the most important thing I can say about it is do NOT underestimate the mess and issues involved with media. Do yourself a huge favor and take a few extra steps to find all the leaks when you're done with assembly. It's really easy, you'll only have to do it once, and you'll be glad you did.
After your initial sealant is cured, completely seal off the outlet for the vacuum, close the lid and turn on your air to pressurize the cabinet (don't go crazy, a few psi will be plenty). Get a spray bottle with soapy water and spray every edge, seam, and connection that could possibly have a leak and look closely for bubbles (this indicates a leak). Make note of every spot that's leaking, wipe off all the soapy water, turn off the air, and seal up all the leaks. After the sealant cures... no, you're not done yet. You're going to get your spray bottle and do the process again until there are no leaks anywhere.
I'm sure there are plenty out there that will say "Bah! That's overkill. A few tiny leaks never hurt anyone." Actually... it can. Because it is a blaster after all, the material around a leak will get eaten away eventually, making it bigger and bigger over time and even a small leak can make a huge mess. If you think the dusty mess is no big deal, let's see you say that after you've logged 40 hrs of sweeping that you could've been doing something else if you didn't have leaks. Also, you missed a spot... look again and you'll see that the dust isn't going to be polite enough to confine itself to the floor. It -will- end up on -everything- from top to bottom. Speaking of dust everywhere, this dust will be a combination of the media you're using and tiny bits and pieces of what you've been blasting off of your projects. Regardless of what you're working on it can be a serious health hazard (I have a coworker who had to have several lung surgeries because of it) So if you care about your family and avoiding medical bills later, do everything you can to properly contain and dispose of it.
You did a good job with this review. Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you!
I have the bigger harbor freight unit and it was such a great investment! I do a lot of brake jobs and the blast cabinet helps me knock out those brake jobs quickly by not having to use a file anymore where the pads go to get the rust off. 👍
Niceeee
I have on these. First thing was, the latch broke in the first year. But now you cant get the blast sheets for the window, or a replacement window. Eastwood now has huge supply problems.
I’m gonna grab one, I have to blast my N54 Speedtech turbo manifold to Cerakote it & its 20-21” long & the cabinets 23-24”…..😂
It works so good probably better using vac when your blasting but very curious what cfm is the compressor you used
Good video what CFM air compressor did you use? Thanks
Not big enough, get the absolute biggest cfm compressor you can afford
@@PoorManMods thanks for the reply. It calls for 7 CFM I wonder if you dialed your reg. back to 50-70 pounds if it would work? Thanks
Where do you put in the media? Also, if anyone knows, what media would be best for sandblasting wood?
I would love a blast cabinet. One day when I build another shop
This one is in my moms basement hahaha
What are you turning your CFM up to? What kind of air compressor PSI does it require (or are you using?)
Im using a compressor that is much too small and not recommended lol. I only have a small 15 gallon compressornor so, not sure what the cfm is
That cabinet looks exactly like the one from Tractor Supply.
Now that you have had it for a while what do you think of it? How long can you blast with your current compressor and what CFM is it rated for?
The cabinet is great, it's perfect for a DIYer but my compressor is too small, it works but ok for smaller and quick jobs but ideally I think I'd want atleast a 40 gallon compressor
@@PoorManMods The key on that is the CFM of the compressor and the CFM requirements of the gun. East Wood usually has a 7 CFM gun that comes with their cabinets. My 21 Gallon 4 CFM compressor can only run the 7 CFM gun for about 1.5 minutes. I heard your compressor kick on pretty soon in the video.
@@jsklaver yeah you're right, like I said my little one works for small and quick jobs but for something like a wheel or valve cover I really need more air
@@PoorManMods This explains why the 7 CFM gun doesn't blast long. ruclips.net/video/tfRZ-5cdlY4/видео.html
@@jsklaver very informative, thanks! Maybe I'll get a new gun at somepoint
That’s it I’m off to machine mart to get one , been thinking about getting one for a while now . Thanks
Got one that looks the same, i use aluminum oxide and the bottom is too shallow. Pickup tube runs out of media with one 25kg bag of media in. I will have to cut and modify to have more depth so media can flow to the bottom. Another weak point is the light, it is just too weak.
Been thinking of getting one of these for a while now. Would love to do our own blasting and powder coating
Doooo it! Their blast cabinet and powder gun are cheap!
Thanks for the honest review.
Thanks for watching :)
Why did you use a female quick coupler on the cabinet and not on the end of the air hose? Seems odd to me to have an air hose with a male on either end.
Thats how it was designed
Interesting video. Easy to follow. Thanks.
Thanks!
What cfm compressor did you use?
I don't know the specs on it, but it's certainly too small, it's a little 15 gallon compressor.
Dude, you're awesome. Great review. I seen the one at HF version you spoke about and it's been teasing me every time I pass by it.
Any updates on where that hidden hole (lel) was that let some of the glass particles out?
Thanks man! I would certainly recommend the Eastwood cabinet over the HF cabinet if space is an issue because of thow the Eastwood one opens. I did not find the hole yet, it has to be super tiny.
I bought the same cabinet from ebay - though it was fully assembled.
I don’t know if it’s wise to powder coat a cam shaft. Usually they’re bare metal and shouldn’t rust because they’re coated in oil inside an engine. I’d be worried that coating it is going to interfere with things such as valve timing and clearances. My .02c
You really think I was powder coating to use it in an engine? 😐
@@PoorManMods my bad. It sounded like you were going to.
how manny psi for blasting did u use?
All the pressure my compressor could make, around 100 PSI
Can you put a link where you got your Water filter/air separator. I cant find a small enough one like that is that the same thing as a air regulator?
I would also like to know what make and model you are using for water separation
Please make powder coating playlist
And also sandblasting, to easily find them
it is a good video but you didn't state what size of compressor your using this is important so what is it ?
The compressor i have is not suited for the blaster, its very small. You want the biggest one you can get
Can you add a link for the media you used
Sweet.... I gotta get one of those
Youl love it
You want to run the vacuum while you are blasting. All that air coming in from the gun needs to go out somewhere. Pull it out with the vacuum and hook up or make a dust deputy to save the filters on your shop vac.
I was thinking the same thing. Leaks are inevitable air has to come out to accommodate the 10 com you are pumping in and that filter didn't at the back doesn't look very efficient. I imagine you would lose some media but it's cheaper than lungs.
I was just thinking how cool it would be with Benny Hill music playing while you do the time lapse unboxing. Lol
Hahha
how many CFM is your compressor?
Not much its small
You got your fittings backwards. Tools and accessories, use male connector. Hose uses male on one end female on the other. Now if you unhook, then way you have it configured, your compressor will be pissing out air
I don't think I changed the fittings, but when I disconnect the blasting cabinet there are no air leaks
What compressor do you use with this sandblaster?
Not a good one, its way too small. A 20 gallon craftsman
@@PoorManMods do you know CFM on your compressor?
be careful with sheet metal like valve covers sandblasting creates heat and will warp the fuck outta them . ask me how i know hahaha had to get a new set thats how bad they warped lol
And love your videos man I'm a og
Thanks man i really appreciate it :)
Awesome so bad Eastwood don't ship to Puerto Rico sucks we fight your wars and die for your peace !!! but not get shipping from Eastwood or harbor freight nice from both of those company
your not puerto rican homie. your American. You fight your wars or OUR wars. Where companies ship and don't ship is purely based on business... your an American, stop identifying as something other than that... deja de joder tanto, eres Americano. Si no te gusta, largate pa Cuba o Venezuela...
Thanks,..but it's a POS, SO.....Thank you
Its not though?
@@PoorManMods is that a question? I wouldn't buy it in your review, so thanks
ooooooooo k
Would you but it? Honestly...step up maybe, this thing is trash bro, u know it
