The bass on this track is Avi doing "overtone singing" which is 2 notes at once. There is a clearer video if you search Avi and the lion sleeps tonight.
For your personal listen, look up this song by PTX live at a radio station. Now that is crazy I love your reactions! At the radio station can more easily see him do the whispers and the beat.
It's always the most refreshing to see a beat boxers perspective on PTX videos, as vocal coach reactions are as tossing a nickel into the sea and you'll find one. Very entertaining.
Kevin's beatboxing is what first drew me in as a fan of Pentatonix. I still find it amazing the kinds of sounds people can produce. Early sound effects performers (i.e. Wes Harrison) intrigue me. Appreciate your insight into how some of these sounds are created. No - not everyone is able to produce all the same sounds because sounds will differ by shape, structure, tautness, etc. and we are all unique - like you! ❤
For some reason, every one of them can be looking straight into the camera but Avi is the only one that feels like he’s looking into my soul. It’s a special talent. Haha
Please react to their evolutions.. Music, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Rihanna and Ariana Grande. You'll be blown away by all of their voices but especially Kevin's beatboxing.
Avi has a four-year music performance degree, and I think he's doing a controlled vibrato to create that beat in a sustained note. And he can do Tuvan throat singing and other "special" vocal techniques.
While people think Kevin is doing everything in the opening, that's Avi doing the bass line while Kevin is doing the beatboxing. They didn't show him doing it because they were waiting for his "Listen to me". Live performances show this clearly.
Avi was an opera/classical voice major at Mount San Antonio College in California - a college known for its award-winning vocal groups. Avi belonged to 3 - their chamber choir, a more mainstream group called Singcopation (which won the Monterey Jazz Festival his junior year), and the mostly tongue-in-cheek group Fermata Nowhere. In 2009, Fermata Nowhere won the ICCA competition - the height of the a cappella world - becoming the first community college act to win. And in the finals, Avi won the award for "Best Rhythm Section", the first vocal bass to win that accolade, which previous to him had been called "Best Vocal Percussionist". And just before he was recruited into Pentatonix for The Sing Off, Avi had been offered a position as basso profundo by the Los Angeles Opera. The man has some skills!
They need to check Butterscotch, the beatboxer that either won or was a finalist in one of the first America’s got talent, she sang and beatboxed at the same time
"Problem" is one of my PTX favourites ... There is also a live recording for 3FM that you might watch for Your own enjoyment ruclips.net/video/yFLhfqtIsTE/видео.htmlsi=cGPSkhEB6GSozDvq And if You want to see (and hear) Kevin rap You should listen to their original "Sing" ruclips.net/video/Yc7-krRX8uA/видео.htmlsi=6w6SXuX3MXqOnNf7
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this one. This was the very first I ever saw of PTX back in 2017. I knew then I had stumbled into something really special. Much love from you-know-where!
There's another one even earlier than this with Kevin rapping and beatboxing at the same time. It's a mashup of the two songs As Long as you Love Me/Wide Awake. You should check it out.
You sounded great! I love the explanation (and praise) of Kevin’s amazing beat-boxing! I’d love to hear your commentary on their original Coffee in Bed and their mashup New Rules x Are You That Somebody!! The beatboxing and bass are mind-boggling in those two.
I know Kevin has commented that he has stopped doing the throat bass due to how hard it is on his vocal chords. Its a shame its so rough on them as its such a cool effect
There’s a high quality live version of this if you wanted to check out the differences between the studio and live version. ruclips.net/video/yFLhfqtIsTE/видео.htmlsi=jeA_3ngyZXEHlIb6
I think it's because most of his experience lies in beatbox, and then he also has tried to learn some bass techniques for his beatboxing. So he may not have anything informational to say about the other three. If you're looking for vocal analysis, this isnt really the place, though I do have some recommendations: Sir Hairless is currently working through PTX and Voiceplay covers, he does composition and notation commentary; The Charismatic Voice talks about vocal techniques and breath control (among other things) in relation to her experience in opera, and has extensive playlists in a capella cover reactions; Peter Barber does similar work to TCV but from a bass perspective, and also has some commentary on production. They are also (TCV and Peter Barber) affiliated with other reaction channels that work more from musical theater and choral perspectives (Jennifer Glazhofer and Mortius come to mind). Klown's here for the beatboxing, and a nice addition to the reaction/analysis movement, but not a full picture dude
You have a million other channels with "vocal coaches" that dote over the other members and never Kevin. He deserves his shine on at least "beat boxing" specialist channel. I find most people that are "fans" only want to hear Mitch get praised anyway.

It’s great to hear a beatboxer’s point of view. Thanks. 🤗

Love doing it :) very happy you like it❤️
I've never heard the beatboxing broken down in such detail. Well done, Sir and thanks for the insights.
I think you would enjoy their first performance together on The Singoff to see how they just clicked in the beginning. Called E.T.
I so enjoy your perspective as a beatboxer! You really help draw my attention to even more great things about PTX!
I love watching you react. You're coming at it from such a different point of view than most of the reactors, and it's great!

You are so appreciated. We love Pentatonix. Greetings from South Africa

Tell em Mitch! All so young and cute.
RUclips notifications let me down! Just seeing this now, glad you liked it!
They were always so vocally tight!
Absolutely one of my favorites!!!

@@charlottevan_8 I did not know some of this -- thank you!
I enjoyed your reaction to this great early Pentatonix video. Thank you. I learn a lot from you.

Great performance and great reaction! There is a live version where they’re performing at a radio station in Europe which is really good.

I love this video, it really is informative to have your perspective as a beatboxer.
Yes it is possible. Also, Avi does bass and overtones and singing at the same time
I know Kevin has commented that he has stopped doing the throat bass due to how hard it is on his vocal chords. Its a shame its so rough on them as its such a cool effect
Does he know there's a live performance of this one😏
PLEASE react to Kevin's Fifth.
Recommend their cover of Kiss From A Rose.
Much of the beatboxing effects is a combination of Kevin and Avi. Sometimes others will make effects also.
There’s a high quality live version of this if you wanted to check out the differences between the studio and live version.

Question? Do you only listen to the beatboxing and sometimes the bass or do you enjoy the whole PTX experience?
You never comment on the rest of the members only Kevin and avi I don't think that's fair you should aknowlge every member not just them to
