Another feature of Ange's time at Spurs, right from his actual signing, is the consistent initial cry of "I don't know him, he can't be good enough."
I think this just highlights how limited, we as fans, our knowledge is. We have a tendency to become fixated on a name and become adamant that he is the player we need, when there are other lesser known players who potentially meet our needs better.
This has become a constant theme of Ange's time with us and highlights how he looks and approaches many things in an unconventional way.
    He's different!
And that can make many people feel very uncomfortable.
But it can also make the journey even more exciting.😀

    Ange has said all along:
‘I prefer to get two £50M players than one £100M player.’
And things like ‘Young players are easier to mold into the system, it’s easier for them to bounce back physically, they have less baggage, and fewer habits to break.’

I'm all for it as long as you can retain them and we don't become like Dortmund where we just sell them once they've developed and never win anything. And then young players with promise start using us as a stepping stone. Are we going to be able to re-sign Bergvall when Madrid comes calling? probably not. Hope I'm wrong though.

Exactly. A lot of the squad Lange built at Villa weren't exactly big names and they very quickly excelled. Fans just want big names through the door. I personally don't care who they are as long as they can perform. Proven PL players need to be our priority (we've been stung too many times dipping into the French league) and this window is certainly showing we're preferencing proven young talent.

Well, they’ve had it beaten and moaned out of them. Footballs become so robotic recently, it’s good to see ange get the young talent that still has excitement in them, easier to mould to his style and they’re more likely to take a risk. That with anges encouragement will be great to see…fingers crossed🤞🏻

And fully agree about Emerson, anyone who willingly plays out of position because the team needs it, and he did well, and is so bright in the dressing room deserves full praise. Will miss his beaming smile in future training ground videos. Biss was stupid but he also needed a real kick up the backside and he now has to use this opportunity to sink or swim in the last chance saloon that he's chosen to walk into. Will he be Clint Eastwood or the extra who gets chucked out the windoqw to land in the horse trough?

I don't get all the bellyaching from a certain section of Spurs supporters vis a vis signings. They do my head in. What would they say if they were Man City or Liverpool fans? The Cityzens (whatever) first team movement to date consists of one incoming, Savinho, and three outgoings. To wit, Julian Alvarez and Sergio Gomez have been sold, and Yan Couto has been loaned out.
Meanwhile, Liverpool's only senior transfer activity so far has been the sale of Fabio Carvalho to Brentford. Arne Slot looked embarrassed when quizzed about it during this afternoon's presser. Yet somehow, City are still expected to win the league and few if any doubt that Liverpool will secure a Champions League spot.
If that was us, the Levy Out brigade would be parading outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with placards singing "We want our Tottenham back!" for the benefit of Sky Sports News' cameras and making a beeline for anything that vaguely resembles a microphone. They need a reality check because all they do is piss people off with their doom and gloom.

Great video as usual Ali you are always cool calm and collected.
Had to laugh at your interaction with Ange at the presser. I think he’s got a soft spot for you.
Was looking thru my thirty odd Tottenham shirts today my prized one signed by David Ginola.
Hoping we have signed another Ginola we are so back to being Tottenham again and Ange is responsible.
Sure id like an Eze or another big marquee signing but we can’t say that Ange hasn’t been backed I’m sure he sanctioned these signings to fit his system.
With new investment coming next season then maybe we go bigger the club is in great place financially and love or hate him Levy is responsible for that.
Before a lot of fans complain they should look at other clubs financially. We are building it was never going to happen overnight show some patience as well as passion for your team.

but he will not be sold as ange favours him. he plays the ange way.

Tottenham fans thinking he's average, trust me he's way better than you think he is. I was researching how Burnley played out from the back in trying to compare it with how Southampton play out from the back as sort of a metric for our chances of staying up (I am a Southampon fan as you probably gather). Odobert stood out to me as someone who was playing at a level completely above the majority of his team, was always making things happen and his stats don't reflect the performances he put out.
He'll be one of if not your best players in seasons to come and I'd go as far to say he could still play a big role for Tottenham this season.

Thank you for the video, Alasdair. Having looked into Odobert today, I think he’ll be a great signing. His dribbling ability seems like a perfect fit for one of the winger positions. Based on your comments, I agree that spurs could still use a midfielder and a defender/LB. There have been some links to Locatelli, which would be interesting. I also wonder if Mario Hermoso is looked at, since he is a free agent and at CAA base. I’m curious to see what further outgoings happen

We can have 5 subs a game. Wingers and forwards can run their socks off, get replaced by a next round of fit, competent players with pace who will do the same until the 110th minute.

Hi Ali, love the insight as always. I really agree with what you said about our scouting getting closer to the Brighton model, finding the next superstars. I do see why people would be worried with the lack of 'marquee' signings, but i think the main reason the brighton scouting works so well is because the young players play every week. We cant have young talent and marquee players and still expect the young players to develop like they do elsewhere while sitting on the bench. I personally think it's incredibly exciting, and points towards sticking with Ange for the long term to head this project!

Alasdair I agree with you. A lot of people are underrating our team, and I think a lot of people will be surprised. Besides the top 3 we have the strongest team and we have a bunch of talented, young players that can play the Ange way. And, of course this is second season Ange ball, and history shows that’s when things click.

Spurs have players that *can* play on the wings yet Odobert is the first true winger that we have brought in that looks like he can play the role ange wants. None of our wingers have the skill he has to take on a defender without relying on their pace. Very exited to see him play!

Have Spurs received any interest in our youth players? City and Chelsea, for example, sell youth players for big fees every summer. I'm curious if lower PL teams have inquired about any of our players. You'd think as much as everyone goes on about them, there would be some 20m or 30m bids? Selling a few youth players for big fees could fund an Eze.

Hi Ally, these kind of transfers are like the way Spurs operated in the days before the internet,, I am going back to the 70’s when we were always at the forefront of buying and selling players e.g Martin Peters and Jimmy Greaves.

  • @chickling7901
    @chickling7901 25 дней назад +1

I'm not surprised that they are trying to deals like this because Chelsea would probably have swooped in. I think the announcement was to make sure we could register him before the 12:00pm deadline yesterday.
I also think that Eze for £65m+, a transaction which would blow the spending structure as well, is not really worth it. He is a great player but he doesn't actually solve an issue in out attack which is an out and out right winger.
I will stress I think, Manu Locatelli or Matt O'Reilly could be the midfielder that we see coming in....

Spurs have snapped out signings so quick. Odobert wasnt even talked about or linked yet Spurs got him. I wonder if this means Kulu will get a no 10 spot and cover the no 9 role. Spurs are well set for the next few years an I'm sure Ange has planes. Bissouma for me is fast becoming another Dele or Ndombele. His form dropped so much last season now this. His position is under threat. Will be interesting to see what happens to him as the season goes on. What ever happens I know Mr Gold will cover it .
