I greatly appreciate the detail of your vid. I was concerned about the flexing of the rack under load, hitting the body, rubbing the paint and so on. The pads being double sided tapped to the body and then having the rubber tipped screw spacers was huge for me. Thanks for the vid.
Hello, just wondering if you still have the rack, and if the rack rubbed on your soft top? Also, was there any damage to where the rear stabilized? Thanks in advance
Amazing roof rack! I am planning on building one of those fiberglass tent tops, I just need a base to be able to work with. This rack will work perfectly if I can keep the soft top on because honestly I see know need for the hardtop anymore, thiers just no fun and in the winter I find jeep heaters warm the vehical fast and do just fine. Amazing detail on your vehical!
The Rack looks awesome!! Nice meeting you yesterday. When I get my Gobi rack in the far future, now I'll have someone to help me put it together (heh, heh).
I truly appreciate you taking the time to show us aspects of the Gobi JLU rack, including what's involved in taking the soft top down, and tricks like your metal washers in the front. But that said--and this is 100% directed at Gobi--not you, having seen this now (thanks), I am that much more considering waiting for LOD Offroad to delivery their JLU rack, which promises easier soft top removal. (I don't work for anyone here, but..) The LOD allows removal of cross members and is wider such that the rack need not be moved to open the soft top or permit Sunrider position or product (2 different things.) And even when those cross member are needed, blocking Sunrider usage, the ability to cantilever the rack to the side while the top is taken down all the way, and then push it back over the JLU is bound to be easier. Of course LOD is still vaporware, and Gobi, all things considered is still an awesome rack. Use it in good health!!
I have a Gobi on my JK and I have to say that I prefer the front light bar mount than the JL. That bracket looks like it is going to be a major dirt catcher. Maybe post back to let us know if it is hard to keep clean?
Hey Misfit. Question(s). Have you tried to use a Roof Top Tent with the Gobi Rack? And thereafter, tried to open/close the Soft Top with the RTT still attached to the rack? If you have, is it harder to lift the rack with the RTT attached? Thanks.
Thanks for the video! Mine is still on the Gobi's waiting list, I ordered one for my 4D JL Rubicon in January, my god it's taking forever! I will probably get it in April I guess.
Hi Active Misfit! Wondering how your soft top is looking after a few months of rubbing on the rack? I like this rack as it allows soft top usage and I'll need the extra storage since my GF has two Bernese that will occupy all the back on long vacations, but I'm scared of the wear and tear on the canvas of the top, even with foam inserts...
Thanks for the great video. I'm curious what brand those nets you have for the rear cargo area are. They look really clean. I'm in the market for something to protect my dog.
Great setup are you still running your stock wheels and tires and also you said you wanted to get new fenders? What kind my fear of changing front fenders is some of them you lose the front LED running and turn Signals and I think it takes away from the JL LOOK anyway really enjoy your videos
Having just purchased a JL soft top I'm curious about if your able to drive with the back panel windows off and soft top still locked in postion over head like your jeep is showing on the video.
Hey man so I know I asked a question awhile back ago about the top. Today I ran into a guy that has the same JL as you and I with the soft top. He has the same gobi rack like you have and that I just ordered I'm no concern about what he said and I wanted to ask you to see if you had the same issues or not. His statement was about the rear brace that would go against the hard top. Since he has the soft top the brace on top wont support the rack which he stated the rack now shifts back and fourth alot from the body frame. Is this an issue on urs as well. I saw a video that I can share with you that I saw on here with another guy having the same issue
It was great! Some issues were that it really kills your MPG and makes a lot of wind noise. The quick disconnect for the soft top was useful but i ended up not really ever taking my top off because it was just a hassle. When you have any accessories on it, you would have to take it off in order to make the hinge go back since it would start to bow if you didn’t. The soft top did have some rub marks from where I used the foam inserts there to keep it from flapping, but I believe you’d get that with the rubber ones from Gobi. I ended up selling it since it just ended up being a hassle for my soft top and didn’t allow me the freedom I wanted with it. If i had a hardtop, I would have kept it.
@@ActiveMisfit I have a hard top and I'm looking at getting one of these racks now. Do you think it's possible to take the hard top off with the rack still on? It looks like the ladder would get in the way, though I'd be fine with not installing the ladder if it allowed the hard top to still come off! 🤔
Great video, much needed! Sorry if u addressed this already, but without that top back knobs to clamp down on the soft top, do you notice any sway or mobility of the rack side to side?
ummm i dunno, I would say if you wanna get a roof rack, go with the hard top. The whole point of a soft top is how easy it is to remove, and now the roof rack just complicate that

Did the Gobi leave any dents or damaged? I saw another RUclipsr said it dented the jeep in the back

Soft top VS Hard top

I really appreciate this video man. Big thanks!
Get video. Could you please address whether or not your able to fold down the front windshield with the Gobi rack system you have?
Can you make a video of your travel trailer?
that plant behind you needed some love!!
Thanks for the great video. I'm curious what brand those nets you have for the rear cargo area are. They look really clean. I'm in the market for something to protect my dog.
Did you notice more wind noise on the freeway since you've added the rack?
This is a great review of the rack installed!
How long did it take you to install it and did you have to drill holes into the body anywhere?
can you just take take the bolts out of the back and leave the rack off until you need it?
I dont see why you couldn’t!
Hwy where did you get those side mirrors?😯 Those are really awesome
CMM Offroad.
I do a video on them if you want to check it out.

1:02 Do anyone know what is a name of these iron thing connected between roof rack and bonnet? and what is purpose?
I am Curious about the noise with the soft top. And how bad was the hit on mpg?
The perfect rig! Great video - keep up the good work 🤘🏼
What size lift and tires are you running?
Can we get a product update?

It works just perfectly!
How is wind noise on highway after install the rack?
It was not terrible, but made it difficult to talk to people
I have the same setup. Looking to install the limb risers. What did you use for that?? Thanks!!!!
What side view mirror do you have mounted on your driver side?

I never really noticed much shifting on mine, it was probably there but I never really noticed it as a problem
Curious what the purpose is for the cables from the rack to the hood latches?
Look up "limb risers" and you will have your answer.
I've been looking for a roof rack to use with my soft top. Thank you! After almost 2 years, what are your thoughts now?

That thing is cool. Thanks for sharing this. What Badges of Honor do you have there on your Jeep? Looks like you got two of them.

Not being able to flip back the sunrider is a deal breaker. And I’m not sure what this cables are about, but also a deal breaker.
Taking the soft top down is quite the production unfortunately. But nice rack system nevertheless. Thx for sharing this! Sub’d
Horrible welding job...check 1:00 min into video and hit pause...i'd be surprised if it lasts a year before cracking...great video though
It's lasted fine since! I haven't put a rooftop tent or anything, but mostly fuel and containers. I've gone through a couple trips with it too.
