- Claims that the majority of asylum seekers entering Ireland had crossed the border from Northern Ireland have been questioned by human rights and refugee organisations.
Ireland’s justice minister Helen McEntee last week claimed that the number of asylum seekers crossing from Northern Ireland into the state is now “higher than 80%” following a shift in migration patterns in recent months.

There are 54 countries in Africa yet they don't seek asylum there. On no, they somehow find their way to little Ireland. I don't care how difficult a journey they had to get to Ireland. Who do you want to send home ? ... the Irish homeless ? Try reading your comments and make sure that they make sense before posting. I am wholly in agreement with what I THINK you mean. I am in favour of the British Government transporting all of those landing on the Kent coast straight to Gatwick and onto a flight (several flights a day) to Belfast and then coach to Newry and then issuing them with easy instructions on how to get to the border. Out of the EU ..... and back into the EU in less than 12 hours. The Irish Government can then arrange repatriation to France on those shiny new ferries to Cherbourg and Dieppe ..... or better still, fly them to somewhere in Southern France .... the weather is warmer so the tents will be fine.

Let me tell you, we could easily gather 100m asylum seekers globally...easily. Allowing them to keep coming and fostering the notion that this path is normal in how to fix bad countries can't be the answer.

We all have pretty hectic lives, making ends meet, getting up early or going home late - this is a western norm. People from hugely different cultures will never fit in.

Ireland still is a country of emigration - we can’t even house our own homeless families, or indeed many cannot afford to live in Ireland, or find employment. Some Ukrainians have also spent time in tents. Doesn’t this tell you something?? Ireland does not have the resources to house the whole world. Neither do even the most successful European countries. Nor is it our responsibility. Ireland has always been generous in giving to the developing nations. It is time to help troubled nations IN THEIR HOME COUNTRIES. Ireland is sinking under the weight of all of these people and we are enabling the Ukrainian War by settling so many here.

Ireland has to look after its own Irish people not the rest of the world.
Its clear that the country has no room for them. We don't have enough accomodation for the people living in Ireland already. It's sickening that the Irish government will encourage them to come over from safe countries in mainland Europe when there is a housing crisis in Ireland. Thousands of people living in Ireland (both Irish born and legal immigrants) have no accommodation, others have to share a room with a stranger, others turned down jobs because they can't find accommodation in a city, others commute 2+ hours each way every day to work, others can't leave toxic living situations as they have no where to go. Housing prices are going up and even people that can afford the insane amount can't find anywhere to rent because of the low amount of places and the high demand. Also, i don't understand how Ukrainian people don't have to pay anything towards rent and get a free room, bills, etc even while working full time yet people who have worked in Ireland for years and have had something happen and are now on disability allowance still have to pay towards rent and bills with less than €300 a week.

People in their 30s are still living with their parents because they can't afford to rent or take out a mortgage, even though they are working and paying tax.
