Very interesting. It also reminded me of the older technology every one used to have and how things have changed. I recently gave my late parents' 1960s record player (turntable thing) to charity which we were never allowed to touch as small children in case we broke it. That was certainly very old "technology".

You have talked about people being sent away to repent before. I'm curious if you know of anyone who was sent away to repent who actually was allowed back into the community? It seems like a lot of people are sent away but I've not heard of anyone being allowed back in.

It seems to me that only men were sent away the young ones to have less competition over the women and the married ones so they could reassign their wives to other men, the women are seen as commodities, they don't send them away that often, if ever

I love this channel so much. I grew up pretty sheltered and restricted like Sam did. We didn't have a TV in our house at all until I was 9. And then it was just to watch movies on VHS. It was a VCR/TV combo. We didn't have an antenna for it or anything, so it was for very limited movies only. The sound of music was one of our approved movies too. So was Winnie the Pooh. 🤣

  • @shishoeh

This sounds a lot like some of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities around where I live. I have family who belong to some of those communities and they are very strict on what technology is allowed, although it is loosening up a bit as time goes by... For example - they don't allow TVs in the house, but computers with no internet are allowed - so they watch movies on the computer (only movies made or approved by the community of course).
When there was quarantine and kids had to stay in the house they had school over the phone!! The teachers recorded themselves and the students called a special line to listen to the lesson! mental...

We totally had a TV up until about 2003. It wasn't on very much, but I remember it being on the day of 9/11.
    The newspaper was The Spectrum.
You are right. The time definitely came when all movies were banned.
We had computers in our house all along. There was a family computer, and the mothers each had laptops. But they were not connected to the internet.
When I was 18 my father bought me my first cellphone. (Also not connected to the internet)
When I was around I think 14, he bought me an ipod.
Up until sometime around 2010, Internet was allowed for businesses and other uses, it just wasn't allowed in the home. So if we went to father's office we could use (very monitored) internet. After about 2010 it was no longer used at all. Not even for business, or work. We had an "internet guy" that would do anything we needed to be done online.

You two look so young, but you are talking about things I had. Anker looks really durable, I prefer to have a Kindle charging thing for my Tablet Fire. Shouldn't it work for anything with a USB thing? I used to listen to what was it called, and my parents never cared what we listened too. But I mostly listened to a pop/rock station here. My dad gave me a really nice CD stereo thing. And I worked so I could buy a new CD every week. I had quite the collection after 2 years. Now I have Amazon Music Unlimited, and all my music is on it. My music is old, back in the 90s. One day I'm going to go through all my CDs, and make a playlist on Amazon Music. You guys must be my age, I two had a walkman in the 80s. I asked my uncle for Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson cassettes, and he got them for me.
