0:19 > "B": paint brush tool> canvas: draw wave shape> note: remove it, we want something different
0:34 > "L: ellipse tool> canvas: hold "shift" to draw a circle> top bar: fill=black, stroke=none (or "shift+X")> "A": direct selection tool> canvas: select the left anchor point of the circle> drag it to its far left> brush panel: hit hamburger icon, hit "new brush"> new brush window: [V] artbrush> hit "OK"> artbrush option window: rename="art brush 0", colorization methods=tints (so you can customize color later with filled value), other=default> hit "OK"> "B": brush tool> top bar: brush style=art brush 0> canvas: drag in a wavy way, when you release the mouse, it then applies the artbrush > note: you can also adjust weight as well> top bar: size=2pt
2:23 > brush panel: double click on artbrush 0> artbrush option window: direction=to left> hit "OK"> warning dialog: hit "leave strokes", or "apply to strokes"> note: when the direction is changed, you can apply it to your previous brush result, which then goes strong/weak in that direction> this affects the start/end of your brush stroke> "V", canvas: select the brush result, hit "delete" to remove it
> "L": ellipse tool> canvas: hold "shift" to draw a circle> top bar: fill=black, stroke=none (or "shift+X")> "alt+drag": duplicate the circle to the right side and make it smaller> duplicate the smaller circle 1 time to the right side
3:04 > select the 3 circles> duplicate them to the right side> select all the circles> resize them smaller by dragging its right anchor point> pathfinder panel: hit "combine" icon> drag it to the brush panel> new brush window: [V] artbrush> hit "OK"> artbrush option window: rename=artbrush 1, colorization method=tints> hit "OK"> canvas: drag in a wavy way, when you release the mouse, it then applies the artbrush> "L": ellipse tool> canvas: hold "shift" to draw a circle> "B": brush tool> canvas: click on the circle with that artbrush> note: the brush stroke will apply on the circle's stroke

Right in the beginning when I hold shift and drag the hole circle moves to wherever I had the cursor.
press A and then move the anchor point...

Is there a way to see the line you're drawing while you're doing it instead of the blue dotted line?
i have created a few brushes but they refuse to join when I draw a circle. even if I select and redraw over the ends. any suggestions?
Hey Colin, double-click the Paintbrush Tool and you’ll get more options with settings related to this 👍

So when I make a new brush, finish the drawing. Then start a new file, my brush isn’t saved. How do I permanently save the brush to my brush library so I don’t have to keep recreating it.

Help!!! I had done what you said only that when I put the brush I had some bends, I erased the brush then I recreated one but the application blocked me the spreading brush and the artistic brush !! :(
Did it and got it. This was so easy and clear to follow. One problem though: when the brush strokes are overlapping, they have this white outline. Is that normal or can it be fixed?

thank you for explaining this...I ran into this menu in illustrator yesterday and HAD NO idea how to use it.
I get a faint outline on the edges of the stroke when the brush strokes overlap each other e.g. if I'm drawing an ampersand. The brush is set to stroke, with fill set to none. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks for the great tutorial!

Is there a way to have Illustrator open with the brush library that we want, instead of the default set that I personally never use?
It's a pain in the ass having to close the default brush library and open the brush library that I want every time I use the program.

Never mind I figured it was because my object was set with gradient colour of both black colours, just set the fill colour to a solid colour and you're good to go! Just leaving this here for anyone having the same problem. :D

How do you cahnge the color though? It's not letting me change color of the strokes ive made
Update: No worries I figured it out you have to click Object>Expand Appearance, then when you select a colour it will change the color of stroke, if anyone needed that.
