    This is just an awesome plane from E-flite! So much plane for a very reasonable pricepoint and features like Smart AND the SAFE select option, make this larger-size P-51D Mustang a LOT more accessible to the newer R/C pilot, who doesn't have a garage full of planes. Can't wait to get one myself. It looks like a lot of fun to fly.

    Been flying this model in Realflight 9.5 and I have to say this has been the hardest plane to master how to land it. Really hard to get the glide slope right and not land without bouncing it (which I have read is hard on the retract mounts in the wing. Still landing it 100%, just working on landing it without bouncing it-right now that’s about 20% of the time. The key for me is full flaps and about 1/4 throttle with a shallow glide slope, cutting the throttle right before touching down.

    I really like the look of this plane. I recently got the inspiration to get into the planes when I saw the eFlite F-18 hornet I watched in another HH video. First plane video I watched of any plane. Hearing that plane made me want to get it. I've got a long way to go before I can actually fly a EDF plane as I don't even have my first plane. The first plane I want to get becides buying the eFlite F-18 is a plane from Motion RC. Ultimately I want eFlite, but I need a beginner plane to start. The Freewing Pandora 4 in 1 is going to be my first flight. The F-18 will more than likely be my first purchase though, but won't be used till I feel comfortable flying. The Transmitter I am interested in is the one in the video, the DX8. Has enough channels for when I need them later on down the road. I like the Spektrum products in general. The first surface transmitter was the DX5C. I ended up giving that to my brother cause I bought him the Losi Super Baja Rey BND and he needed a transmitter. I had my eyes on the DX5 Rugged for a while and ended up buying the orange version as I didn't need the extra receiver. Also really liked the color anyways so it was a no brainer. I've been doing a lot of research on planes and feel like the DX8 is my best option.

      I started out like you with RC cars long ago. One day I went in a real hobby shop and saw the planes hanging from the ceiling....it was then I saw that getting put on my bucket list...yes I flew the U-Control some 40 years ago when RC aircraft and controllers were the price of a used car. I also built those Guillows balsa and paper rubber band powered or Cox engine models so seeing this ARF TalorCraft 450 by Hangar 9 caught my eye and I built it...
      Not wanting to crash it I bought the simulator and a cheap foam three channel ParkZone Cub...the rest is history, now I have my own RUclips channel.

      @SebastianLong 4 года назад

      @@keithlucas6260 Sounds like you know what you're doing when it comes to planes. I'll have to subscribe to you. I'm sure there are questions that will rise and it's best to ask someone more knowledgeable. It's a lot different than learning surface RC as if something goes wrong, they are already on the ground. In the air, and something goes wrong, best hope it lands on something smooth or you will be buying a lot of parts or a whole new plane. Typically seems the latter half if it's a substantial crash.

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  2 года назад

      This is one of the best and easiest flying P-51 models ever, but we strongly recommend the smaller 1.2m version ( ruclips.net/video/TKnHygFVluA/видео.html ) or the T-28 Trojan 1.1m ( ruclips.net/video/r0K6S1K4vYc/видео.html ) as first low-wing/warbird models after mastering a trainer. The smaller models are a bit easier to fly/handle and have less details so they're more durable overall.

    Personal aircraft of Lt. Col. Thomas Christian, C.O. of 361st F.G. 375 F.S. 8th A.F. Bottisham, nr Cambridge UK 1944. All his a/c were named 'Lou' this being his last, No. 4. He lost his life in this A/C dive bombing Arras rail yards, 12 Aug. 1944. The name on the starboard side should read "Athelene' (crew chief traditionally named that side). Always been a bone of contention over the blue upper surfaces - some say was olive drab? Beautiful model either way. (And yes I was deeply involved in producing the history of this fighter Group.) Greetings from Teresa, Cambridge UK
    (P.S. the original plane never had the tail fin fillet. This was added to later models because of stress factors)

    I’ve been flying for about 5 years off of grass with various planes: Viper 70mm, v900, 1.2 Corsair ( still trying to keep it from nosing over upon landing), Avanti, Eflite A10, Air Tractor, Cirrus, Cherokee, etc. Do you think this p-51 could be my first p-51 flying off of grass?

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  3 года назад

      Yes! Due to the larger size and the larger wheels, the 1.5m P-51 is a great choice when flying from grass. The 1.2m P-51 can work well on some grass surfaces, but is more likely to nose over like the 1.2m Corsair. The 1.5 P-51 is far less likely to nose over on the same or even longer grass surfaces!

    Hi Jason any chance you could tell us how flying this compares to flying the 1.2m Eflite mustang? I’ve been flying the 1.2 comfortably for a year and a half along with some other 4S planes (without safe) but have not flown anything 6S before. A video from pilot Ryan suggests this plane can be a bit of a handful. Does it fly ‘on rails’ like the 1.2? I just want to be confident I’m not punching above my weight before I lay down £500. Thanks.

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 года назад

      It flies much like the E-flite P-51D Mustang 1.2m model overall! It does have a relatively larger diameter prop that results in more torque effect, and the tailwheel is in the scale location, which does require a bit more attention and control (rudder and throttle use in particular) during takeoffs and landings in particular. That said most will catch on after a few takeoffs/landings, and in the air the high-speed, low-speed and overall handling is very much like the smaller version...so if you can fly/handle that model successfully, you should be able to successfully fly/handle the larger 1.5m model too!

    • @putzytart
      @putzytart 4 года назад

      HorizonHobbyProducts
      Awesome!!! I’m in! Thanks Jason! One more question for you. Are the wheels bigger than the 1.2m? One of the reasons I’m looking at larger mustangs is that my 1.2 really struggles with our grass runway in winter months in particular. Nose overs are impossible to avoid and so I don’t fly this time of year. I’m guessing the wheels are bigger and it can taxi/land/takeoff more easily on grass?

I HAVE WATCHED AS MANY VIDEOS ON THIS PLANE AS I COULD FIND SO FAR. I'VE NOTICED ON ALMOST EVERY TAKE OFF THE PLANE/PILOT PULLS HARD TO THE LEFT. IS THAT BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH TORQUE AND OR A COMBO OF THE PILOT NOT HAVING ENOUGH EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PLANE AND NOT GIVING ENOUGH RUDDER ON TAKE OFF. • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  3 года назад

      The Cub and Cirrus are very different than a warbird, and yes, flight times vary greatly based on the performance of the battery being using, flying style and throttle management of the pilot! You can always get longer flight times if you fly slower/use less power...but that's not typically how most people fly a warbird ;)
