Best video for any lt1. I have a firebird formula. just got my block off plates today and can't wait to cut all this cap out. excellent video brother. howling Diablos too...sweet.
did the air pump delete on my 96... had some trouble with the passenger side tubing, after playing around with it and doing some more cutting, the pipe final came up thanks for the vid
Thank you bro! Your vid helped me so much for my 1996 camaro z28 !!! 1st time doing this,, Easy to follow along . The socket for the bolt on exhaust manifold was 1 inch for those wondering. Huge shout out to you bro !!
nice! I have the LT1 in a 96 roadmaster, this engine is a beast. I think I'm going to do the same air pump delete, it will clean up the engine compartmen nicely. I just have to do a home plate and first base delete. good work brutha!
Thanks, did it today, along with flush and fill. Had to take it off anyway to replace water pump. 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, 5.7 LT1. My manifold needed a plug instead of a cap, Dorman 65231 was unavailable near me, got knockoff that didn't fit, so I got someone to weld the tubes shut. Threw a code 29 and both electric fans came on at idle, reinstalled air pump relay. ECM doesn't care if its working, just that it's getting voltage.
Really late, but it’s in the way of everything, you have to take parts of it off to take off your water pump, distributor/cap and rotor, change out any exhaust pieces, etc. all it does it heat up the catalytic converters for at start up, so especially if you get rid of your catalytic converters it’s useless. If you still have your converter it’s still mostly useless, just slightly reduces emissions on start up then nothing after that.
Had a check valve connection snap in two when trying to replace it, meaning I needed to replace the pipe that runs from the check valve to the exhaust manifold, too. Bad news: those pipes (the ones you sawed with the angle grinder) are DISCONTINUED. This video will be a handy guide in my AIR delete ('96 Z28). The 5/8 in. flare cap from Home Depot is spot-on (one installed to temporarily plug the exhaust manifold); I'd like to find an iron/steel one as brass expands/contracts more.
Although the pcm may need reprogramming on the 96, will it cause it to run bad before getting it reprogrammed or is it just simply to get the check engine light off??
I wonder if you can even find anyone to program this on the 96’s in this day and age. I have a 96 and would probably do this but not before I located someone to deal with the ecu.
Nice info. At the end of the video you mentioned that "1996 vehicles (OBD 2) will send a trouble code and needs to be reprogrammed - and in 94' and 95' OBD 1 doesn't need" - do you know does this same apply in F-body Camaros and Firebirds? I have 95' Camaro and planning to do same air pump delete and i don't have glue is it OBD 1 or 2.
ahh ok see i want to remove my smog pump and all the tubing as it is rusted to hell. then either gut the cat or install a 'test' pipe in lew of the cat. i can hear what sounds like rocks in my cat..
XHustonProductionsX My '94 T/A parts car ran super rich before i stripped it, like black smoke rich. If i drove long enough it would stall and would not turn on unless i disconnected the battery and reset the pcm . when i removed the Y-pipe i discovered that the cat. had fallen apart on the inside. could this be causing the rich condition. I also noticed the PO changed the CTS sensor.
After you deleted the air pump did the engine start running weird? I want to do this on my 96 Camaro but I don't want to mess the engine up since its so hard finding a tuner for LT1s lol
Good video, but there would have been way less coolant mess on that poor optispark if you had removed the lower heater hose from the lowest port on the water pump.
I have a '95 Caprice 9C1 and will have to be forced to do an air pump delete if I put on the headers I found. Will it do any harm to just remove the tubing and leave the pump? I'm just asking.
What was the point of that sorry I'm a newbie but I think the guy that had my car did this but I don't see caps and what it doesn't need the air flow no more ??? Please help my car won't stay running
sorry for my ignorance but why remove air pump? also i want to add an air intake to my 95 impala ss but removing the sensors puts my check engine lights on how do i by pass that? also if i put headers will i pass emission any help would be great thanks
so your light came on, did it effect the performance of your car while it was on? Does a person have to get a reprogram, Or does the reprogram just turn the light off.
OK I removed everything now besides the passenger side metal tube, like the one you was having trouble getting out on the video, how can I free it I'm completely stuck on getting it out
Cool video, planning on doing this to my 96 Roadmaster, I've pulled the relay on that son of a bitching thing because I'm pretty sure it's dying... If the sound it's making isn't death, I don't know what is. Also noticed the throttle body airfoil, did that make any difference? I'm planning on adding a spectre cold air intake too because my intake tube won't seal, and I'm not paying $70 for a new one when I can get a complete intake tube for $155. You haven't done the throttle body coolant bypass, any reason why not? I'm looking into these mods to make the Roadmaster a bit more amusing to drive, I'm also adding a 2.5 turn quick ratio box to my car since it needs a box anyway.
I just did this to my 94 z28, wasnt that bad to do..Just now my electric fans come on whenever they feel like at any tempature even initial start up and the check engine light comes on only when the fans come on? will reprograming get rid if this?
Anyone have a video on replacing the power steering lines on a 1994 Chevy Impala SS/Caprice/Buick Roadmaster or a 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham which is what I have.. Basically the same as all the above and I can't find a video. Fun fact in the early 2000's I actually purchased a factory new set of SS Impala rims with center caps from my local dealer but never knew my neighbor planned on giving me his 94 Caddy but he knew I also have a 1979 Eldorado in the garage. I love sleepers and if I use the SS rims I'm hoping to find the FWB center caps. Any help super appreciated. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.
I bought the three peice blockoff plates from summit and i also bought hooker supercomp long tube headers for my '95 camaro z28 soo i want to do the egr delete is it the same way as in this video ? cause i dont know if there's really any difference in the b-body egr system ? I'm also saving up for Llyoid elliot's stage 1 heads and cam package and i bought a summit universal 3inch x pipe i plan on having all of this installed this spring, also i'm gonna get it tuned by pcmforless and do a/c delet
Had a question recently applied a intake system to my ss impala 95 and the air tube i put it aside and blocked the end!!! Not open at all!!!! Like u had it!!!! Will that build pressure onnmy new engine!!! Leaks at the main seal changed it!! And still leaks -again!!!! Thinking of unclogging it!! Any opinions
At the end of the video he shows this it’s based on year.... I’m getting ready to do this myself will make changing valve covers, cover gaskets, and spark plugs easier
PeroSpotlightVideo and no if you running with check engine light I don't see the point in even doing that I always took em off on 88 caprices just not sure on b-bodys
They are saying it's good to get them out of there to because if the check valves get stuck . It will burn up the hoses and may catch fire. All of are lt1's are getting old lol. So may be a good thing to do
@michiganshooter i have the f-body soo i dont think the impala forum would do much for me lol. But for the a/c delete i haven't yet, but when you buy the pulley dont go cheap go for the gm.
I have a 94 pontiac firebird and the air pump is bad the bad news for me is the air pump for my vehicle has been discontinued from the manafacture. Who can help me remove the air pump
Can someone help. on my 96 impala my primary fan won't cut on. But one will when the ac is cut on. Even still after the temp goes up the primary fan should cut on but it doesn't.
Ok I see what you did and I'm sure it cleans up the engine bay and it does look better but what is the purpose of this mod ? Just bought my first 96 Impala SS and I don't know a dam thing so please enlighten me cause I want to do it better I understand what I'm doing... what is the purpose of the pump in the first place, what is gained what is the loose?
Robert De La Cruz Jr It was originally an emissions component but was later ruled unnecessary. There have been "old car" problems like moisture getting trapped in it and causing bogging, etc, so some people delete it. And allege an extra pony or 2 afterward.
+Robert De La Cruz Jr it helps oxidize unburnt fuel and icreases injector pulse to decrease warm up time and increase cat efficiency. The problem was some exhaust gas could leak pass the check valve and settle in the pump. As the exhaust gas cooled with the car off, condensation would build up on the MAF sensor setting a trouble code.
+Robert De La Cruz Jr You will not be able to pass an emission test. My hydrocarbons (HC) went from under 200 ppm to almost 2000 ppm. You get no more power. You may get less power as the computer tries to lean out the mixture due to hydrocarbons. Bad idea. BTW - reprogramming chip to "defeat" emissions is illegal. .

Pumping fresh air into the exhaust manifolds helps in the reduction of emissions at the tailpipe. I don't know how, chemically, but it at least it physically dilutes the exhaust with clean air. The problem seems to me to be that we use all that clean air to do the diluting. So do we have more dirty air (just a bit less dirty) at the end of the tail pipe than we'd have if we just left things alone? How do we know the net effect? A good air/fuel ratio used to be that we burn 14.7 gallons of air with every gallon of gas. But surely by pumping air into the exhaust, we burn/foul even more air. I'd like to read that GM TSB mentioned in one comment. Anyone have a number or link?
Robert De La Cruz Jr shit i just pay 200 for mines I live in CA to I never had a car that can pass smog once had a camaro that hit the ground hard scraped the cat converter they wouldn't start the smog because it was scratches and once I smog my 78 Malibu never have to do it again
I know this is 4 years late, but mine is unplugged for now. Started screaming something horrible a few years ago so it's just unplugged, but still on the engine. Car throws a P0410 while driving, but it's not necessarily every drive cycle. There's a TSB from GM that allows you to delete this stupid thing. Edit: I just delete the code when it comes on, mostly so I don't have to stare at the CEL light. But it's the only thing she ever codes for. Hoping to delete this thing soon, but for now this works fine.
You are fortunate not to live in the big city where they do emssions testings, them guys up there get mirrors under you car and under your hood too if they find something suspicious you won't be able to register your car.
Pulls in fresh air to add to the exsaught to improve catalyst in the converters until at operating temperature. It's an electric pump. So there is no performance improvement by doing this. Most do it to clean up the engine bay.

thanks for the vid
Hello I cant get my passenger side tubing out
when taking the air crap out, do you have to do anything with the computer and how? thanks
what exactly is an air pump at all? what is it's function and why did you remove it?
You should make more do it yourself videos for impala's there very helpful.. Thanks
Thank you bro! Your vid helped me so much for my 1996 camaro z28 !!! 1st time doing this,, Easy to follow along . The socket for the bolt on exhaust manifold was 1 inch for those wondering. Huge shout out to you bro !!

good work brutha!
Wish you had more videos on how to fix things on this specific car man
This video is 12 years old but exactly what I was looking for have a project car 95 z28
I'm new to LT1's. What's the benefit of eliminating the air pump?
Remove dead weight and have more free room to work on the motor
Thanks, did it today, along with flush and fill. Had to take it off anyway to replace water pump. 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, 5.7 LT1. Someone doesnt care too much about their opti! Lettin coolant spill everywhere like that!
Thanks for removing the coolant hoses.

95 has obd 1 but has a obd 2 plug end
I see you have corvette injector covers on your LT1 what year corvette I need some
What about the air lines from the evap charcoal canister to the air pump?
you made that look easy boss. If I delete my pump, will the check engine go out. I
failed emissions and got a p1416 code. Thanks
dam love your videos loved the water pump one superb quality
Maybe a stupid question but will this effect the EGR at all or is that a whole different system?
After you deleted the air pump did the engine start running weird? I want to do this on my 96 Camaro but I don't want to mess the engine up since its so hard finding a tuner for LT1s lol

Where can I get those caps. Those are really nice
What about the other half of the electric air injection pump? The one that attaches to the drive belt
you said you hunted around for a few hours to find the 5/8 flue caps. the guy in Lowes found it for us in 30 seconds.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Probably cuz they didnt know the size
What was the point of that sorry I'm a newbie but I think the guy that had my car did this but I don't see caps and what it doesn't need the air flow no more ??? Please help my car won't stay running
askyamomboutme it probably need the mass air flow sensor
Will u have to mess with any fuses or relays with that delete?
sorry for my ignorance but why remove air pump? also i want to add an air intake to my 95 impala ss but removing the sensors puts my check engine lights on how do i by pass that? also if i put headers will i pass emission any help would be great thanks

great job explaining it all, and helps i have the same car
Cool video just very Carelesse that Was a grinding wheel not a cut off and you also dug into the pulley
Did u notice any difference with the Throttle body air flow booster
What about the lines going into the manifold? Would there be a vaccum leak??
Cool video, planning on doing this to my 96 Roadmaster, I've pulled the relay on that son of a bitching thing because I'm pretty sure it's dying... do u know about the 95 it has 2 wires off the fire wall I need help with identify what they go to .
does that increase the power
Great video, well done and very informative!
should get rid of the stock manifolds too for a nice set of long tube hedders
;)
I just did this to my 94 z28, wasnt that bad to do..Just now my electric fans come on whenever they feel like at any tempature even initial start up and the check engine light comes on only when the fans come on? will reprograming get rid if this?
LOVE THE VIDEOS YOU PUT ON VERY VERY HELPFULL FOR SURE BUT WHAT THE PURPOSE OF REMOVING ALL THIS STUFF??
Anyone have a video on replacing the power steering lines on a 1994 Chevy Impala SS/Caprice/Buick Roadmaster or a 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham which is what I have.. man I can't get my passenger side tube to pull out, what did you do to pull it out??
I bought the three peice blockoff plates from summit and i also bought hooker supercomp long tube headers for my '95 camaro z28 soo i want to do the egr delete is it the same way as in this video ? cause i dont know if there's really any difference in the b-body egr system ? Thanks dude I’m doing this when I get home to my ‘96 Chevy Caprice Classic
What is the reason for removing this air pump??
Can this be done without cutting the piping? Is that necessary? Or just easier/faster?
bye deleting the air pump, does it run better?
Had a question recently applied a intake system to my ss impala 95 and the air tube i put it aside and blocked the end!!! Not open at all!!!! Like u had it!!!! Thanks for the videos. I just bought a Roadmaster that needs some attention...
What would the trouble code read on a 96?
don't you answer the comment section ????????
why you making a mess with the anti freeze........... Man
does your check engine light come on with the air pump delete?
Why did he take it off? What is the purpose?
Any tips on how to get the passenger side if the air tube out?
Do a vid on replacing the spark plugs......Those areas are tight on the sides of the block to get to em! Geez!
take out your inner fender, then have at it with some extensions
Kiddro22 take the front wheel off. Go in from the tire well. Really easy then
The plugs are no fun, but you haven't suffered until you've replaced the plug wires on the passenger side.
How do you get the pcm reprogrammed or where
Great video
Great video, plan on doing this to my 96' Fleetwood.
Dude your my hero I love how you pull all that political Smog bullshit out of there with a vengeance !!!
Did you have to have the computer program deleted for the air pump?
At the end of the video he shows this it’s based on year.... I’m getting ready to do this myself will make changing valve covers, cover gaskets, and spark plugs easier
Does removing the air pump affect performance in any way.
No, unless you count a couple pounds of weight (which I don't).
PeroSpotlightVideo and no if you running with check engine light I don't see the point in even doing that I always took em off on 88 caprices just not sure on b-bodys

I could not get an angle grinder on the passenger side to even cut that pipe off.. I have a 94, and they bent the pipe in the worst possible angle.
Nevermind, got the grinder in, had to bend the pipe out of the way with a wrench. My passenger side pipe was actually routed differently than yours.
when you cut off the drivers side pipe you never showed with hoses on that side that you removedBro......
Can someone help. on my 96 impala my primary fan won't cut on. But one will when the ac is cut on.
Even still after the temp goes up the primary fan should cut on but it doesn't.
+Scott Stylez replace fan motor check rockauto
hook it up and run targer switch ,cheap good fix did on my z28
Michigan shooter what is that skinny black hose ????????? that you took off.???
the optispark vent tube
What about a 08 Chevy impala ls
Ok I see what you did and I'm sure it cleans up the engine bay and it does look better but what is the purpose of this mod ? Thanx bro, on my to do list for my 94 9c1
where did u get the 5/8 cap from????
Robert Cohen pep boys
Robert Cohen or home depot
Thanks for posting!
Great video! Very detailed and we'll made.
In the video he disconnected the temp sensor, that caused a engine code on my dashboard,. I took it to my nephews shop..He reconnected the temp sensor and the code went away and everything was A..OK Check it out Guy's.........
there was a gm bulletin to delete air pump operation with a pcm flash update ..all that hack work for nothing ..(little late to the show on this one
Awesome video
you made a mess with the anti freeze
Ah!!.. I've been trying to figure out what that was on my vette, it's located differently but now I know what that little bastard is! Had to tie off the Egr valve for headers so I guess this comes next.. Oh and, gotta love pre-obd2 cars!

subbed from a chevy loving michigan man
hope this works on 91 caprice
is this legal in north carolina
kennybopaloo Bop everything is legal in nc
Ok not a good idea for me to do all that then since I live in CA n it's crazy here to pass a smogg Inspection. thanks again...
Robert De La Cruz Jr shit i just pay 200 for mines I live in CA to I never had a car that can pass smog once had a camaro that hit the ground hard scraped the cat converter they wouldn't start the smog because it was scratches and once I smog my 78 Malibu never have to do it again

Son of a bitch man, why can’t my trans am have an engine bay that I can actually put my hand in like this....
WTF is the pump even for ???
Pulls in fresh air to add to the exsaught to improve catalyst in the converters until at operating temperature. It's an electric pump. So there is no performance improvement by doing this. Most do it to clean up the engine bay.
