You don't need to apologize for the quality, because this was incredible. I actually just played this on KXLU, and like 50k people in LA heard it, because you captured it. Thank you for that.
It stayed with me from when I saw her play this the first time at SXSW 2017 and again when she opened for Conor Oberst on his last tour. I was so fortunate to be able to finally capture this. Thanks for your thoughts!
Beautiful cover. I heard this when Danny and I were teenagers hanging out in his basement lair in WV. He was a wonderful friend to me. He used to say we have to escape the working class. He did and I'm still working.😊
I never knew who Phoebe was until i heard her do this cover. I always loved this song since i heard it over a decade ago. Daniel was so good at explaining the sadness and helplessness of depression. She does such a good job encapsulating that. You make me feel feelings Phoebe. I love this
"Trying to make sense out of scrambled eggs". Beautiful. He's using Beatles metaphor's for the word "Yesterday", or saying "trying to make sense out of the past". Genius. This is the most beautiful version I've ever heard.
@@arthurderas Prior to the song "Yesterday" being finished, the lyric was "Scrambled Eggs". Mccartney/Lennon didnt have a lyric there yet, so they simply said "scrambled eggs"....Daniel knew this, I'm sure....
@@arthurderas pretty sure that lady is wrong. he’s referring to his scrambled thoughts. the line just before mentions how he lost his mind in junior high. idk how she came to that conclusion, unless i’m misunderstanding what she’s saying lol the whole song is about his struggle with mental illness
RIP Danny. This is one of the most beautiful, heartwrenching, honest song's ever written. And damn, Phoebe did a wonderful job here. Thanks for recording and posting. ("Not the best quality" in the description; funny, cause it's more fitting this way, Danny wouldn't mine, im sure.) :)
I've heard quite a bit of Daniel's work and love what I've heard so far. This song is new to me and has just had me in tears. A little to close to home for me. I'm off to listen to the original.
Thank you so much for recording and uploading this!! I’ve been thinking of her cover since the performance. I was beginning to think I would only be able to replay it in my mind, so I was so happy when I saw this vid pop up!
This is absolutely gorgeous. I used to cover this song, and it's safe to say I have to stop covering it now. The superior version now exists, and there's no way I can match it.
Try dropping your shutter speed to below 1/160 of a second. That's what I have to do with still photography... I assume video is about the same. LED lighting is similarly a pain in the arse.
Daniel was a fantastic songwriter.
Sometimes I listen to this on repeat for hours
rip Daniel you kind soul

I think Bridgers covering Johnston makes perfect sense. Musically and lyrically, she's his descendant. We agree about how good this is, though. 😊
Imo one of the top 10 songs ever written. Stunning performance

So good! Does anyone know which model of Epiphone she is playing?
If anyone's interested I think it's an Epiphone Frontier FT-110! Possibly from the 60's or early 70's. Love the pick guard so much.
what chords, and in what order? i'm a complete noob but ive almost got it.. help pls :)
this sounds so wistful
E***** siempre que vea este video me acordaré de ti
