2:05 this is probably my favorite Godzilla roar in the monsterverse. It has that signature Godzilla pridefulness to it, like the king refuses to admit defeat, but you can hear the pure, unadulterated agony that he’s going through.

I love that they did Mechagodzilla justice. He's always been a dangerous enemy for Godzilla. In the Toho movies he he beats the shit out of the G man and sometimes almost kills him. Godzilla was only able to win with the aid of other kaiju and/or humans. Ghidorah is Godzilla's Joker, but Mechagodzilla is his Bane

I just love how quickly Mechagozdilla reacts to all of Godzilla attacks. It shows how he is not just a copy, but is the ultimate countermeasure against Godzilla. Just as big G fires his atomic breath, Mecha shoots the laser without hesitation and even overpowers him. Love it.
Do note that the man behind the movie expressed that the fight would've gone differently if Godzilla hadn't been so exhausted. Between fighting Kong three times, wrecking a bunch of Apex Corporation outposts, and burning a hole to the core of the planet, he was pretty well running on fumes. He didn't stop to rest at any point during the entire movie.

It's a great step up from the previous movies that there's not that much cutscenes to humans. Tho it was somewhat like that in Kong skull island as well

This really shows how dedicated the movie was back then and how special effects, CGI, and pristine graphic animations has gone a long way. 🌟
this scene has almost no special effects, almost everything is visual effect.
1974 was way better than this, the plot made way more sense than this one, as aliens would be way more plausible than humans making a giant robot that fully functions. With suits you feel the action instead of just seeing it, and the score is much better. Showa movies are the best.

They did Mechagodzilla so much justice by making him the badass counter to Godzilla he truly is, along with great CGI, fight cinematography and sound design, but they IMMEDIATELY took it all back when they had firefist dump kool aid all in the mainframe nerfing him entirely.

I originally never wanted to see Mechagodzilla in GvK and thought that it would be much better if he was in a different movie but after finally seeing him in action... I can say I'm really happy in the way Legendary portrayed and designed Mechagodzilla. Making him an actual threat that the two monsters would have to team up in order to defeat. I still would have liked to have seen a movie that would follow a similar format to the first Terminator film, where Mechagodzilla is activated and goes on a killing spree to destroy all the other Titans; giving Godzilla and Kong more motivation to team up.
It also helps that it's more or less literally the reason the whole plot happens in the first place. Godzilla's side of the story is him trying to find it, Kong's is him unknowingly seeking the power source to get it to work.

i really like how mechagodzilla actually uses his thrusters in battle to speed up his attacks unlike previous incarnations
You can kinda tell with this how the SFX are integrated with the score, how some sounds that should be playing are not because they would otherwise interfere with the score. But also, what they’ve done with this version has overarching effects. If you listen to the mechanical roar he makes before he charges at Godzilla when they start their fight, in this version and the original version even with the score being silent in both, they sound different.

At 0:49 I am always reminded of Kiryu for some reason. However origins for this Mechagodzilla are very similar to the unused/unofficial origins for the 1993 Mechagodzilla 2 in that the remains of Mecha King Ghidorah corrupted the Mech and Mechagodzilla 2 became self aware.

I must admit, MechaGodzilla was pretty badass, his design, personality and role says it all. I never would've imagined Kong battling and destroying mechagodzilla, and i appreciate how they added the beam look attack, which is pretty cool. The only thing i wished for MechaGodzilla is that he had more screen time and a better set up on a character and plot level.

How this movie didn’t get nominated for an Oscar for vfx is astounding to me.
Jared Krichevsky did such a great job designing mecha godzilla. This one is so cool looking. It kinda reminds me of bionicles in the joints and it makes me so giddy. It's very dinosaur like and it has a lot of stuff going on (in a good way) and I want to know about all the shit it can do

Yeah this is exactly how I feel. A lot of people don’t realize how hard balance can be. Making one kaiju look strong comes at the expense of another character. But the wins and losses here made total sense.

If you listen to MG's first roar in this scene, you can hear that it's actually a mechanized King Ghidorah roar, showing that it really is Ghidorah's consciousness in control.
I’m no fan of the monsterverse but what I do love about this rendition of Mecha Godzilla is the use of thrusters to improve maneuverability/dexterity and occasionally offensive capabilities.
So many mecha sci-fi shows don’t utilise this stuff even if the mech was powered with nuclear power or other overpowered energy source that would definitely require a form of waste energy expulsion. The last mecha media that I remember watching using thrusters is Pacific Rim’s Crimson Typhoon.
They never account for the speed of sound, I'm hearing noises instantly from 2 giants fighting miles away at times... I'm high af right now

Imagine Godzilla's morale when Mecha was tossing him around like a soccer ball. And, on top of that, when Mecha failed his nuke breath with far stronger nuke breath. Godzilla's testosterone levels must have plummeted to zero (just imagine).

Somehow I like it better without music. It feels the horror is more present, I can’t explain why.
This fight just shows how awesome Godzilla is, he didn't know what it was, but he felt his old enemy there, with a body and power similar to his, and even so he went to confront his mechanical nemesis, and even losing him kept trying.
