THANK YOU FANATIC! you guys are one of my favorite MTB Tubers. also want to give Ibis some big props for bringing the $3k Ripley AF to market. GOOD JOB IBIS!
Hi Dan, I'm in my early '60s and used to ride the Northern CA Bodega area, even rode with Scot a couple times back in the '90s. I've been out of it for ~25 years due to health issues and am now wanting to get back into riding, but I'm not a jumper or daredevil type rider, more of an adventurer and yet want Porsche handling. Higher speed has never been my pursuit but enjoying the flow & meditative aspects, loving Santa Cruz-type riding. I'm 5' 7" and stout not slim, I'm thinking more in terms of 27.5" such as the Ibis 4 but this is quite tempting - probably in SLX. - What would you suggest, and are there other bikes you would point out to me for my requirements? Thanks and don't take too much time answering, I know you're busy.
Hi, I'm glad to hear you're in a position that you're able to get back out there! Happy to help. My initial thought is that unless you've demoed the bikes and know without a doubt that you prefer 27.5" wheels, it may be worth reconsidering looking at 29'ers. I wrote them off for a long time, but with where bike geometry is at this point, in my opinion they only provide benefits to mountain bikes (you've likely read/heard about them so I won't reiterate unless you are curious). They also tend to be comfortable for all different heights of people; my partner is 5'5" and has only ridden 29'ers since she started mountain biking. You mentioned Porsche handling so I imagine carbon bikes aren't off limits price-wise, and you're looking at Ibis bikes, which I think are phenomenal. My recommendation, given the criteria you've given me, is the carbon Ripley, which has just been updated with their new graphics/colors, a universal derailleur hangar, and the same geometry that the AF model has (slightly slacker than the original Ripley 4). I talked about the original Ripley 4 (pre the updates I just mentioned here) in this video: ruclips.net/video/jAjLKXY3Gos/видео.html I still think the Ripley (either carbon or alloy, depending on your budget) is the best bike for the most people, and would be totally happy to own one myself. I've often thought that if I left the bike industry I'd just get a Ripley AF to have till the end of time. Let me know if you have any more questions, and you can always call or email our sales people, they're also a wealth of knowledge. Their email is sales@fanatikbike.com. Cheers! Dan P.

Hey Mario, happy to help. I am just under 5'10" (5' 9.75") and have a 30" inseam and a 5'10" arm-span. I am able to ride larges, but I prefer the medium. It's more fun and easier to move around on trail, which is what I love about this style of bike. Cheers - Dan at Fanatik
I wouldn't go that route unless you just have a RideWrap sitting around you need to use for something. They'll get one made eventually. On the other hand, it's an alloy frame! Save yourself the $100+ and hours of time and just pick up a Groundkeeper Framekeeper! www.fanatikbike.com/products/ground-keeper-frame-keeper
I wrapped mine in Rode Wrap and it is excellent quality and cut to perfection. Can’t see it unless you are very close ,practically invisible. Would highly recommend Ride Wrap. Even the instructions were great. Full frame wrap covers 99% of the bike ,extremely happy with it. Did it my self ,30 hours on and off over a week. Well worth it.
@@FanatikBikeCo that's what's up. What about the DPS shock? Does the Medium come only in Light tune, or can it be requested to be shipped with the Standard tune?
@@imadesbeats2059 At this point because of availability there's no shock swaps from the factory. However, you could upgrade it after the fact, it's a 190x45mm shock. I unfortunately don't have any either right now, but I bet you could find one on Pinkbike. How much do you weigh? I personally didn't have any issue with the shock as-is. @@FanatikBikeCo thank you for the reply! I’m 6’ and considering a large or xl. I have short legs so I’m leaning toward the large to run a longer dropper, but afraid that it may not have enough reach.
@@Mbtharp1 Hey Michael, Dan here. Honestly you could ride either one and adjust with stem length and where you have the saddle on the rails. That said, if you're concerned about reach and have a long torso and arms, I bet you'd be comfortable on an XL. These bikes have short, uninterrupted seat-tubes, so you should still be able to run a longer dropper post without issue. Cheers, Dan at Fanatik

Cries in GBP...
Ibis is going to sell so many of these things. I think I need one too!
I'm ready to pull the trigger. The more I read about and learn about this bike the more I like it.
I own this Ripley in the carbon frame, it is awesome. This AF Ripley looks sweet, whoever gets this is going to love it.
So good!
Great first look! Excited they keep pushing the affordability of their time-tested platforms.

First time I have heard someone call it XC
Yeah I know. They could call it, and hear me out, a trail bike.
😉🤣
Can this Ripley AF charge better than a Ripmo V1 ?
I wouldn't say that, no, simply due to the decreased travel.
This would be a good second bike, but speaking from being on a 130/130 29er right now, I'd prefer to get something with more travel for my only bike.
go with 190/ 290 26er
You nailed it! AggroXC, that needs to catch on. #AggroXC
Looks like my Trance 29
just a xc bike.....like all Ibis, heavy because of the extra material in the rear triangle that is not needed in other designs.
Huh. In my experience Ibis's bikes tend to be pretty light comparatively.
Uhhhh two co-rotating links weigh more than the horst pivot? Lol
@@testtesttesttesttest884 Yes, look at the frames, one is 2 triangles, and one is a triangle and a chain stay and a seat stays.....your co rotating link bikes have what amounts to 2 seat post frame parts to be the sides of the 2 triangles.
Agro XC is like saying there are more than 2 genders.
That is a very odd comparison to make, but sure, why not!
