They didn't sell out, they just decided to become professional artists
Part of the reason why the genre died too is that the community used to be very close but due to lots of drama and labels buying out kids and all of that, it kinda created a bunch of beefs and a lot of collectives back then died, lot of artists ended up not working together anymore everybody went on their own route.

i feel like hyperpop is a vague umbrella term for an emerging sound which quickly split into different styles picking from the original inspirations. like once hyperpop was explained in a digestible way it became formulaic because people started chasing "hyperpop" as a style.
