- Hey, I'm here again on Part #2 on color grading on the Ipad M1. Many ask if the iPad is enough? In my honest opinion, the answer this time around is still YES. For once smaller is bigger. Now would I do a full-on Hollywood-based full-length film on the Apple iPad... maybe just maybe. But anyway, join me as we learn how to color-grade footage on the iPad M1 Pro.
DaVinci Resolve is a great tool for color grading on the go, and this tutorial will show you how to use it to grade footage. We'll walk you through the entire process, from importing your footage to giving it the perfect color grading! If you're looking to color-grade footage on the go, then this is the tutorial for you!

Thank you so much. I try my best to keep it simple
@KeithCherilus561 I'm a beginner and honestly there's information overload. I love how you lay it out. I'm not into all these theories just hands on so I can try myself. Please keep up with this style man. I'm excited for what you have in store.
@@claudiomarionyc with many new things it takes time to pick up on the information. I’m very excited do you love the content. I think Davinci resolve is great for beginners, so stay tune for much more!!!
Wow, you explained it well. Thank you for the knowledge🤟🏾 Stay blessed
@@user-fe5yk1pu3v thank you I really try my best 🙌🏿🙌🏿
Thanks for york work! 🎉
You’re welcome. It’s definitely my pleasure !
Your channel is going to be big! Keep it up!
I love the support!!!! Thank you so much, I definitely got to post more content soon
Thanks for the video. I’m still on one node. But I’ll get there eventually. I’m on iPad Air 5
Do you do all your edits in one node? Or are you saying nodes are a little confusing
Bro is 64gb sufficient
@@mr.manikyam as long as your iPad can run iOS 16 you should be good to go. It is recommended that you do use an iPad with at least an M1 chip.
Great vid, I am having an issue on my iPad Pro 12.9 M1 , when using quick export or the modified export tab using a shortcut command. My exports are a slightly washed out and do not match timeline color. Is this something you have come across. I am on beta IPad OS 17
I haven’t really come across that issue but I did hear somewhere across the grapevine that using Rec709A as the timeline color is ideal for Apple monitors.
@@KeithCherilus561 appreciate the reply, and yea still can't get it to match, it is a slighttt difference in shadow detail where export shows more in shadows than what is being shown in timeline. I do not have the issue if I use luma fusion as its more 1 to 1
@@thegenius2OOx what’s your CST settings like?
that is real deal! Editing without Magic keyboard 😮
Only true ones know 💪🏿
Hello friend. I installed DaVInci Resolve 18 on my iPad Pro 12.9 but, in the COLOR tab, when I click on EFFECTS (FX), the LIBRARY with the effects does not open. Do you know what it could be? Thanks!
Like it does open at all even when you refresh? If so try reinstalling and tell if you get similar results
The reinstallation solved the problem, it is opening the Effects (FX) LIBRARY. Thank you very much for your support!
You’re welcome I’m glad we found a resolution to the problem
Live Preview doesn’t seem to work on my iPad. I can see the LUTs taking effect in the node instead of on the video.
Any idea why?
Did you check to see if your effects are cut on?
You did such a great job narrating and with pacing! Keep going! :) also, I have an a6600. How do I know what to set the CST as? Is there a chart I can look at? Im a super noob at all of this lol
I once had the a6000, I love that camera but I don’t recall it having any log features or a color profile so tbh I’d skip the color space transformation or manually do the saturation and contrast
Also thank you for the positive feedback, I’ll definitely have more to come for certain!!
Oh that is good to know thank you! Seems like the color space really transforms the video by a lot though so that seems like a bummer to not have. I guess I just need to play with my camera more and learn all the jargon 😅
@@rav_666_ yeah it does change the video by a lot, but mind you the videos are really greyed out and aren’t ready for broadcasting that’s why. The a600 kind of already did all the work, the only thing you’re really missing is the ability to manipulate the video as much as you would if it were log. But trust me pay attention more to telling a good story if narrative is what you’re after, proper exposure and light, and great audio and everything will fall into place.
It was not shown how Color Management was set, but it is strange when Input color space in IDT you chose DV WG Intermediate and not Canon C-log. Without showing Color Management, it makes no sense to me. I can understand 709 output color space before Lut. Copying data from another source also does not reflect natural workflow nad can be not clerly for beginners
Hey I apologize for any confusion. This was to show how Resolve for iPad holds up compared to the studio desktop version. I couldn’t find the color management tab you typically see on the computer but CST is the same solution. I have a much simpler video where I use the application for the first time that uses C Log that you may want to check out, . Also DV WG could be used to replace log , it really depends on which direction you want to take the footage.
@@KeithCherilus561 in IDT we take camera colour space and convert to timeline colour space eventually straight to display colour space. Here its look like you converted timeline colour space to display colour space. Why I feel is missing conversion from camera colour space to display colour space. Because you use Lut which work for rec 709 its ok to convert for Display but why from DV WG? I think only about beginners who can replicate this. I just bought an iPad and I was basically looking for how to apply dehancer or look designer or another emulator in this DaVinci Resolve for iPad
I actually got a video that specifically uses Dehancer, which I believe is a standalone app, take a look at it and tell me what you think? ruclips.net/video/t-ZU69t03cI/видео.htmlsi=w_N4sFvo2m58Hi-p @@Elslawoy
How do you colour correct R3D redcode raw footage in DaVinci? I would like to edit the raw files rather than convert them to Rec 709
You can manually adjust your footage using the "Camera Raw" page in the Color Tab. Make sure it's an actual RAW file and not a compressed video format or it will be grayed out. If you're having a hard time locating it, it should be the very first page with the picture of a camera in front of it
@@KeithCherilus561 thank you. I meant to ask how to do this using the ipad pro. Can I work with the raw files on the ipad or is that only limited to desktop? IF so can I start the project in raw on the desktop and continue on the ipad?
@@deviate.2651 oh lol sorry. Short answer is no Resolve for iPad hasn’t rolled out that feature yet. Hopefully in the near future it will. You can start on the desktop and export it as a uncompressed ProRes and then edit on the iPad
So the free iPad version can’t edit Slog3 footage?
It can edit log. It’s raw I’m not sure about. Would have to double check on that though not too sure
It was a double night shift because I watched this video with nnight shift on as well
Lol really? How was it?
How change proxy to raw videos
A short answer to that is you can’t create proxies on the iPad, you’ll need to create them on your desktop. Too many steps in my opinion to have an efficient workflow. But if your just color grading and not necessarily editing I wouldn’t suggest anything less that the original footage.
Wow so you do all of this with the free version? what does premium offers?. Nice content by the way cant believe you dont have 100k subs
Yep it’s all on the free version. Maybe one day I’ll gain the courage to see what the paid version has to offer lol. 100K in the near future lol. Thank you for the positive feedback!!!
Can you do this on iPhone i mean the video that i took can be done
Hey yes I have a video on how to grade older iPhone footage like the 14 and under. But if you want iPhone 15 and in log I gotta get my hands one then I’ll present a how-to video!
Just uploaded. Check it out and let me know what you think? ruclips.net/video/GxKPjZkQrOQ/видео.htmlsi=oMlOEsD849_7fhjK
I click on effects but its not giving me the Library so any solution?? 3:41
That’s odd… Did you try uninstalling then reinstalling the app?
@@KeithCherilus561 nah don't have Wi-Fi ☠️ i downloaded the app parts by parts within the span of 2 days😓
@@roystar1912 that’s really unfortunate. But if you’re looking for color space transform, you know you can just manually do it by adding some contrast saturation and exposure. You don’t necessarily need it, it’s really just a good way to start off your grading.
@@KeithCherilus561 tysm bro
No worries
I have my gaming laptop
Davinci works errorless there
Appreciate your efforts
Wish you a good future ahead☺️🙌🏻
@@KeithCherilus561 and you just earned a sub🙌🏻
What is lut
A LUT is short for “look up table” it’s basically a preset for your grade to keep it very simple.
I got I pad pro 11". DaVinci resolve keeps crashing. Is anyone having same issue? Is there any solution?
Usually reinstalling or updating the app or iOS helps. Have you tried those solutions yet?
@@KeithCherilus561 yes tried reinstalling but still crashes after importing few videos.
@@KeithCherilus561 tried one more time reinstalling. It's stable now👍
@@Psartzgreat, make sure you’re using compatible videos
Great video, script, voice over, editing BUT I h to bail out half way through because your background music was just way too loud. Really struggle to separate your voice from the music track.
Im disappointed to hear that. Hopefully I can win you back with my new video that speaks on the same thing.
I don’t see eoshdc log

You have True Tone on, jajaajajajajajaj
Although you've learned some things from Cullen Kelly, your serial chain style seems a little whack. Most RUclips colorists do it this way I know. But if you watch the real pros like Cullen then tend to use three or four primaries and then parallel nodes or 9-13 parallel nodes altogether. Your ends results are fine though.
I totally agree with you. As we continue to improve we start to clean up our act a little bit.
Great video. Could do without the background music though
Thank you!! Was it too distracting?
@@KeithCherilus561 yes, and it was an endless loop of the same tune, over and over. Don’t take it wrong, other than that your video was very informative and helpful.
Lol I definite appreciate the insight, gotta be more creative in my tutorials. Thank you!!! @@raisingcane225
Thanks for the video! I agree with raisingcaine; loop was a little monotonous, volume too high and seemed to be panned hard R/L. Not trying to smack you, just an fyi from my ears.
@@dotted8-you guys are definitely right!!! I will make the music far less distracting, I love raising canes so I shall listen!

Thank you, but your music is way to loud and sucks. Beside that very helpful!
