    I thought it was a humbling documentary. Brave to have helped him so much at his worst and to be mature for Will to not blame himself. Alcoholism is a real brain disease and not a moral weakness of character. The complex and conflicted emotions were important to see. I survived an alcoholic in long term relationship and this was a brave and very honest documentary. Very helpful

    Very sad and very emotional. I never realised what the Young family went through dealing with an alcoholic in the family or any family for that matter. Such a shame Rupert didn't make it.

    I grew up in a rough area, I've seen a lot of heroin, crack and alcohol addicts but it's actually alcohol that's claimed the most lives (of people who were only in their forties) I really feel for Will and his family and I'm sorry for their loss.

      Not all traumatised people are addicts, but all addicts are traumatised people. Addiction is used as a coping mechanism for (severe) emotional/psychological pain.

      Alcohol is one of the worst, most damaging drugs but because it's legal, people think it's ok and they look down on people who use illegal drugs. If you drink alcohol, you take drugs (people tend not to like hearing that.)

    I lost my little brother at the young age of 40 almost three years ago I knew he was self medicating and I couldn’t force him to get help then it was too late I treasure all the good memories we had growing up together with our family and I now know that I have to thrive and carry on without him and make Matt also our sister and mom that passed away before him alcoholism is a disease and I give praise for recovering addicts I wish Matthew would have found the strength to reach out 😢Love you Matt ❤I’ll see you soon,bye the way the family is still growing and I’m doing great!!!

    Anxiety and depression is what you grow up with as an addict. Way before you touch your first drink or drug.

    Having had a family member who was not only an alcoholic but paranoid schizophrenic, you feel like you can’t blame them for their behaviour as there’s always an element of diminished responsibility. But my god it was hard. Trying to rescue someone so physically and emotionally destructive, who either wants to isolate themselves or when forced out of that (once both his parents had died and the family home was gone back to the council) gravitates to the company of other addicts who take advantage of and steal from him. In the end his body was so destroyed that a somewhat premature death was inevitable, somehow (honestly quite inexplicably) he lived far far longer than Will’s brother, but in a really terrible physical state that was just desperately cruel and sad to witness. Being in “rescue mode” for someone who won’t be rescued loudly struck a chord with me.
    I think Will Young was put through a hell of a lot because of his relationship with his twin brother. ALL of the focus is on the family member who is struggling, right up until the funeral. It’s not wrong to talk about how their chaos devastated the rest of a family.

    @WillYoung This is going to sound crazy but I carried everywhere a poem I wrote for you, after a dream I had about you while you were on the original audition show that you won, for nearly a decade! I think I still have it somewhere lol (when I was younger if I had a dream it usually meant something deep so I would try to understand them). Anyway, You really moved me bc of the person you were and remain... I'm so sorry you and your family and your brother experienced this, and continue to live with its impact. Sincerely Fay Brown

    It never fails to astonish me that parents continue to put their children into boarding institutions to be brought up by strangers, knowing what goes on in these terrible places. Why do they actually have children go essentially give them away during their most formative years. Very sad, poor Rupert. 😢

      @baz810 2 года назад +1

      Precisely!! Will Young used to be famous and he wants to be famous once more. How convenient that he decides to talk about the 'alcoholism and mental health issues' that drove his twin brother to take his own life! Issues that he's never, ever brought up before.....he's exploiting his brother's death...who isn't around to defend himself or give his side of the story......to put himself back out there. He's a disgrace.
      Rupert took his own life after the devastating loss of his beloved dog....it does happen....but it was too boring for Will's documentary so he decided that his brother would die of alcoholism

    • @richardsculley67

      @@baz810 Agreed. I watched an interview with Will recently where he said he would see his brother passed out on the couch after vomiting - begs the question as to why Will didn’t get him into rehab???
      Still let’s make it all about Will - again!

    • @Dion_Mustard
      @Dion_Mustard 2 года назад +12

      @@baz810 Not sure he's exploiting his brother's death. ultimately he loved his brother, and tried many times to help him (letting him move in with him). There's only so much a family member can do for someone with alcoholic problems. I should know, I had two uncles who suffered in the same way. We reached out to them so many times but in the end both of them died of their mental illness and physical illness. Perhaps look at it as Will Young making a documentary to highlight the fact that although he comes from a privileged background with money in his bank and a degree of fame, he is still normal like everyone else. The documentary wasn't boring to me, it was quite moving and emotional. I could see in Will's eyes that he is devastated by his brother's loss and felt guilt etc.

    • @upendasana7857
      @upendasana7857 2 года назад +7

      @@baz810 wow...you know it all do you!! the real reasons why he took his life because of his dog ...he only died during lockdown,Will has probably only now had enough time to deal with it and the fact he is even making a documentary that he is brave enough to share some of the most painful and also potentially shameful parts of his and his families life is a service to everyone out there who is struggling or has family who is struggling with caring for someone in addiction.
      It really says far more about you that you would cynically think Will has done this for self promotion or fame.His profile does not need him to reveal this..there are far more other ways he could promote himself than talking about his brother who had been through years of hell and if you even cared to listen or understand that his issues stem from childhood trauma in a abusive school system.
      Did you even listen to a word he said of where his alcohol abuse started and that hie had cut his wrists and they were bleeding whilst Will was on pop adol....incredible how some want to twist a stroy to suit their own twisted beliefs !! get real
