Never seen this before. How wonderful to see Will so early on in his career. You can already see what a tremendous singer and talent he was. He knew he wanted it a semi-tone down! Such musicality too. He was then and still is a tremendous talent. Thanks for posting this up.
Thanks for posting this, you unlocked a memory! I remember Pop Idol Extra used to air live every day between 4 - 7pm and it was always fascinating watching them rehearse their performances. Can't beat early 00s TV, you would never get such a raw insight now.
Aah... the VERY moment I fell in love... sigh... 10 years on and still going strong. Wow, thanks so much for putting this up! Mind if I correct you on something though? This wasn't boot camp, it was the rehearsals for the top 50. PI Extra broadcast live (or as-live) on Mon - Weds afternoons following the preparations. The top 50 performances were then recorded on Weds & shown Sat with the results live later on Sat (they had to get changed back into exactly the same outfits!)
wills come so far and done well with no boot camp tuition like the x factor artists get 10 years and still going strong and hes now got a leading part in CABERET good on you will keep up the good work from a massive fan mythras90x
@VentionVal Yes there was no "bootcamp" stage as such then, they just said "we'll see you in London", but as they no longer film and televise this stage of the competition in the likes of "X Factor", I had no way of describing it so a new audience would understand what it was. :)
@angelsnow22 It might not seem obvious from this clip, but the pianist here, Mike Dixon, is one of the most experienced and respected musical forces in London's West End and on British television. He has worked on nearly every musical you can think of and in 2004 won the Australian Entertainment Industry Helpmann Award for Best Musical Direction. This is just a bit of trivia as I know you were only joking. Ha ;)
Amo moltissimo questo video di Will alle prove di 'light my fire' e la sua determinazione a provare e riprovare per fare una perfetta performance, la sua voce e' rara e singolare…meritatissimo il podio di pop idol!
@thecandyman73 The stage now called boot camp became known as the Criterion week back then, after the theatre where it was held. What you've put up here was pretty unique to Pop Idol though. Even Xtra Factor stopped doing the behind the scenes stuff after (I think) Leona's year, which is a pity. Fascinating to see it all in such detail, right down to David slagging off Mariah Carey!
@VentionVal I guess the beauty of recording live tv is that you capture scenes that potentially would never see the light of day again if it were not for the likes of youtube. I have a feeling that Simon wants the X Factor to be such a polished production that he wouldn't like to not have the control over such an unpredictable and largely unscripted show. I'm actually amazed many other people saw this when it was first broadcast, I can't imagine daytime ITV2 even be pulling a million viewers. :)
