- I LOVE this song. It's always in my TOP favorites in the Steinman/Meat Loaf world!! It's funny to look back at myself in 7th grade, listening to this on my stereo in my room, blasted as loudly as I possibly could, all while trying to stay as close to the speaker as possible as if I was going to miss something if I didn't. "Teenager in Love" I suppose!
Lyrics:
I want my money back
I want my money back
It's all or nothing
And nothing's all I ever get
Every time I turn it on
I burn it up and burn it out
It's always something
There's always something going wrong
That's the only guarantee
That's what this is all about
It's a never ending attack
Everything's a lie and that's a fact
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
And all the morons
And all the stooges with their coins
They're the ones who make the rules
It's not a game it's just a rout
There's desperation
There's desperation in the air
It leaves a stain on all your clothes
And no detergent gets it out
And we're always slipping through the cracks
Then the movie's over, fade to black
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
I want my money back
I want my money back
What about love
It's defective
It's always breaking in half
What about sex?
It's defective
It's never built to really last
What about your family?
It's defective
All the batteries are shot
What about your friends?
They're defective
All the parts are out of stock
What about hope?
It's defective
It's corroded and decayed
What about faith?
It's defective
It's tattered and it's frayed
What about your gods?
They're defective
They forgot the warranty
What about your town?
It's defective
It's a dead-end street to me
What about your school?
It's defective
It's a pack of useless lies
What about your work?
It's defective
It's a crock and then you die
What about your childhood?
It's defective
It's dead and buried in the past
What about your future?
It's defective
And you can shove it up your ass
Oh, I want my money back
(Life is a lemon)
I want my money back
(Life is a lemon, life is a lemon)
It's all or nothing
And nothing's all I ever get
Every time I turn it on
I burn it up and burn it out
It's a never ending attack
Everything's a lie and that's a fact
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
And we're always slipping through the cracks
Then the movie's over, fade to black
Life is a lemon
And I want my money back
I want my money back
Back, back, back, back
I want my money back
I want my money back
LIFE IS A LEMON!!!!
Songwriters: Jim Steinman
Hey you guys!! I just posted a new version of me singing this song on 12.17.22 - Hope you all enjoy it!! ruclips.net/video/0d7ulX7OXfo/видео.html
I just discovered this song...perfect for these times! Enjoyed this performance!
Thank you so much!! 🖤🍋🍋😬
Only Jim Steinman could write a song like this! Fabulous performance, strong vocals and an overbearing sense of desperation in the air. ‘What about your work? ITS DEFECTIVE! It’s a crock and then you die’. Amazing!!
Amazing, Matt! Thank you sooooooo much!!!! I love, love this song! Always have since getting the album as a kid!!
This is flat-out one of the best covers of a Jim Steinman song there is, and I’m thoroughly convinced that if Jim were still alive, he’d wholeheartedly agree! I only say “one” of the best, and not “the best” because several of Lauren’s other covers might be just as good! Separate or together, her performances are incomparable. This one demolishes everything in its way to dispatch the song’s raging disenchantment and fury-laden angst with the overdrive acceleration it so richly deserves. And the really cool thing is this - you can just tell from the way Lauren brings the storm that this song (and Steinman’s works in general) are vital enough to her inner being that she’d do it exactly the same way even if no one was watching! Now, that’s what it’s all about!!!
"Lauren brings the storm" Yes. This.
Wow, Bryan! Thank you so, so, so, much for this! This comment is just tremendous - for so many reasons! I really appreciate that you are always taking time out to listen and I thank you for that. Also, you always leave such incredible commentary - I always look forward to reading them!! And, I’m just so thrilled that the urgency and disenchantment intended for this song is coming across to you in my interpretation!!! Thanks again! 🦇✌️🍋
@@rickytutin Ahhh! Thank you so much, Ricky! 🤗🦇😎
Lauren is awesome at Meat Loaf songs. There. I said it.
😂😂 Thanks, Johnny!
Hey Lauren. That was crazy great! I’m always amazed at how you just seem to do these powerful songs straight through. Also get the sense that this is 100% you without post-production, making it even more awesome. Thanks!
KL - This is a crazy great comment to read!! Thank you!!!!!! It's funny, I originally was trying to sing this song as a "duet" on the smule app, but obviously a duet with myself, LOL. I can't count how many times I recorded it and I wasn't happy with it and finally said to myself - "forget this duet mumbo jumbo, I'm just gonna sing this straight through and see what happens!" And I liked it this way so much better!! Yes - the video is from the Smule App - The only thing I changed was the lighting in the video! LOL I'm so, so, so, happy you enjoyed this!!!! I love, love singing this song!! Thanks again, KL!
Hello, a song full of energy, sung well with powerful and a wonderful voice, well done and like 👍 goodnight Jean Marc 👏👍👏👍
Hey, Jean Marc!! Thank you so very much! I'm so happy you enjoyed this!!
Brilliant vocals as usual, another one for my Lauren playlist!
Ahhhhh! Thank you so much, Mick! And thanks for being such a loyal listener!
Come across this today on the day we lost the big man and I have to say you 100% nail this.
Wow thank you so much, Anthony!! I appreciate it. I am very saddened about Meat and your comment brought a big smile to my face. For that, I thank you!
AMAZING!!!! So much Passion!!!! I love it!!! How the hell doesn't this have about a Million views? I will pimp it again on the Steinman Facebook blogs. Question to Lauren- How many of your family know of your videos and have no idea of what you are singing? I find either you are an "all-in" Steinman fanatic (like me) or have no idea and don't care who he is. As with my wife, if I mention a Steinman song, she will say, "I like that song", the same way she will say she likes a Taylor Swift song. Thanks for the great rendition!!!
Hey, Cliff! Thank you!! So - what a great question and thanks for asking!! My answer is this: immediate family, we were basically raised on MTV and Fire Inc! My parents played the Streets of Fire soundtrack A LOT growing up and we all loved it. Total Eclipse was the first song I ever fell in love with as a little girl. I waited for the video to play everyday! However, some of my siblings, while they know who Jim Steinman is, don’t know all of his material, like things on BFG, or Loving You’s A Dirty Job. Im one of 5 - I would say one sister is a big Jim fan, another sister is too. The rest are lukewarm or like your wife, say they like it like they would any other song. Now, most extended family and a good handful of friends haven’t a clue who he is. “Oh you sing a lot of Meat Loaf, right?” Meat they know, haha. That’s one of the many reasons I enjoy doing this so much, anyone who has only dipped their toes in the Steinman pool of extraordinary music, will soon discover, if not immediately, “there’s always something magic, there’s always something new” (haha I couldn’t help myself). Cliff, I am sooooo thrilled you enjoyed this btw!! I love this song so much! And thanks for sharing, Cliff!!
Still such a horrifyingly accurate song. Wonderful cover!
"Horrifyingly accurate" what a great way to put it! Absolutely true!! Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite songs to sing!
Some great vocal gymnastics here Awesome as usual

Steve - Thank you so, so much!!
Once again another stellar performance xxx
Ahhhhh! Thank you, David!! I appreciate this so much!
Okay this gave me CHILLS!!!
Thank you!!!! This is one of my FAVORITE songs to both listen to and sing!!! It’s one of those Steinman songs where I thought “how does someone I have never met understand me so well?” 😂🍋🦇
@@LaurenBradleyGivingOffSparks Its clear in your performance that you have a connection with this song! It was one of my favourites (alongside Everything Louder Than Everything Else) right around the time I graduated high school and turned 18 and will always be special to me.
