Incredible Simba in the death scene. Performance brought tears every time you played it (no exaggeration). I just watched the original scene again right after yours, and with all the money, music, time, and slews of artists, barely a frog in the throat. It comes down to the acting. Well Done.

This scene of Simba reacting to his father’s death was more impactful than the one from the actual remake.
I wouldn't know, I didn't see the remake. But I can tell you, I nearly teared up from this. Definitely emotional.

Guys, speaking of facial motion capture, there is a really great tutorial on youtube on how to set up face mocap in Blender just using a sharpie to mark tracking points on someones face, and using phone footage of their face to do it. Its a really simple setup, takes around an hour. Maybe you guys could consider giving it a go? :D

I don't know what software they used, but a synthesizer like Harmor can do it very easily. All they would need to do is increase the pitch by about an octave, and then sculpt the formant curve so it sounds like a young boy instead of like an elf that inhaled helium.

I thought he killed it as Simba, the head movements and the slinking away really captured the character. Those subtle changes in speed and direction are what makes great mocap stand out from a purely animated character.

@@ethany.2981 Well, they had 1 guy working on the actual transfer of the mocap with some janky models, 1 guy to work on all of the backgrounds and hair simulation, and a mocap suit that probably isn't the industry standard, as well as only have 1 week to do it. Knowing these guys, it was a mixture of serious and non-serious, but even if they were super serious about it, I don't think they'd get it much better since they already did really well considering their limitations.
