the damage from doing sweeps or leaping thrusts on malzeno is very similar but I am more comfortable using leaping thrusts. Idk I feel like it allows me to be more aggressive because I can always squeeze in one or two pokes before the next attack and if I would go for a sweep I wouldn't be able to block because I overcommit
What would happen if you could slot in guard up? Would it make it easier to block certain attacks? I never played with the lance and i keep seeing speedruns with it.
not a lot tbh. Guard up allows you to block otherwise unblockable attacks. Malzeno has only one atack which you can't block without guard up which he does if he stays for too long in his super rage form, the one he enters at around 2:45. but if you do enough damage fast he falls out of it before he does it which means it's never gonna happen in a speedrun

Absolutely incredible run! Judging by the way you played, I assume it's easier to hit Malzeno with pokes as opposed to sweeps?
