- Primordial Malzeno is the definition of short but sweet in this game.
Initially, I was going to complain that it's impossible to KO Hazard Primordial Malzeno twice as you can see in this run, but the fight is so good and so short that in the end, I feel so much more engaged in it. A monster with such an interesting moveset, that you cannot keep downed, is surprisingly a breath of fresh air in this game.
While I do still think the last phase is a little unbalanced, I overall enjoy this monster much more than I originally did, it might even actually be in my top favorite fights in this game, maybe just under EX Risen Chameleos.
Some other things I haven't talked about yet is the story of Primordial Malzeno, and how I am in love with it. The developers absolutely nailed down the "this is an Elder Dragon that's necessary for the good balance of nature, therefore we should not slay it" that they tried to do with Ruiner Nergigante and miserably failed.
In Iceborne, you do end up slaying the Ruiner Nergigante of the story, for no real reason. In Sunbreak, Fiorayne and your Hunter are intelligent enough to reasonably understand that the threat is the Qurio and that you need to help Primordial Malzeno protect the land. As such, in the last beautiful cutscene (that I predicted a month ago cough), you let Primordial Malzeno live.
So what about the Primordial Malzenos that you do slay after the story one, such as Hazard Primordial Malzeno? Well, my theory is that it's a necessary harm. The Qurios desperately try to infect Primordial Malzeno due to it being their best possible host now that Gaismagorm is dead. That's why there are such an insane number of them around when you fight Primordial Malzeno. And as you probably noticed, slaying Primordial Malzeno slays ALL of these Qurios at the same time, which is the real threat.
I can somewhat back this theory up with the fact that the song that plays in the Citadel before you fight the story Primordial Malzeno, is literally called "Gathering of the Qurio".
Lots of text to say that I not only love Primordial Malzeno's fight, but also the magnificent and satisfying conclusion it is to Sunbreak's anomaly mystery. I think this is close to the best "story" in the series, with Monster Hunter 4's story behind.
Lastly, and I hope you're still there, I pretty much never talk about my music choices or even give the names of the songs I use in these videos, but I want to make an exception for Primordial Malzeno.
The first phase has "Old Dragonslayer" from Dark Souls II playing. I chose this song because it sounds epic, heroic, dramatic, and scary all at the same time, while having a Knight motif, so I thought it would fit Primordial Malzeno well.
The second phase is "Frozen Embers in the Crimson Moon", Disufiroa's second phase theme from Monster Hunter Frontier. It's a very fast and tense song that fits the insane and corrupted nature of Primodial Malzeno's last phase.

Thank you for seeing Hammer through to the end
Man, the timing on that water strike counter is so damn legit!
I’m glad I found your channel because of Rise and Sunbreak, even if it was late into its lifespan. I look forward to any more interesting matchups you might have for this and any other game in the series, and I especially look forward to MH6 content someday.
editing went HARD on that new phase, awesome run
That one moment where you sent Hinoa flying was priceless
jesus christ this run was amazing, everything was straight up perfect!!! great job lynn!!
3:13... yeah that looked pretty awesome haha
artistic videos and peerless skill as always!
That Dhisufiroa theme came back around in the second phase and hit me as hard as Malzeno's tail slam
great fight! and loved the story examination in the video details. I'm still playing through sunbreak's story but it's just so fun and intellegent and engaging :D
Totally agreed man!
These water strikes were just on point
Such a cool fight! going from a 8 minute first try to a sub-4 minute hazard quest is super impressive, and you always have stuff happen in them that feels cool, too. Saving utsushi like that even if i hate him IS a flex.
i like the music you used!! dark souls ost is stuff I like to use myself when hunting, almost as much as I use bayonetta 1 for the nintendo switch ost, and it's so fast paced that it really fits primordial malzeno, also like how bayonetta 1 for the nintendo switch enemies are super fast and aggressive as well. Disufiroa is just fucking cool full stop. Maybe in mh6....
Lynn i love your taste in music. I now have too look up the disufiora theme and hear it all day. Sadly Malzeno died where ost peaked. Sick run.
If i played like this my videos would be so much shorter 💀
Amazing stuff, keep it up!
I mastered courage hammer thanks to you! You gotta be in the monsters grill, you gotta. Ive literally gotten 4 stun/ knockouts in a single minute.
My eyes after it went vampire mode at the end omg
as always what an amazing peformance bro
keep it up
Bonk 4 the win - question: how you can keep the charge lvl after the dodge? I tried that but i just can’t figure it out 😅
Hi!, love the video! I just have one question, which switch scroll are you using in the hunt, red or blue? Wanna ask because Mail of hellfire and derreliction give the same buffs, but in different scrolls
As you can see I switched scroll only once and at the beginning of this hunt, so Blue Scroll. For the +35 raw damage of Dereliction and +15% Element from MoH.
@@dynamo_lynn Thanks!
Have you ever considered making guides on hard monsters like these? As in, moveset breakdown, how to dodge and counter them. I think it would really help casual players (currently struggling with PriMal myself here), and i think it would bring in some good views, considering there's not much, if not any competition in guide videos.
I considered doing that since I started my channel, actually.
The first monster I wanted to make a moveset breakdown and guide for was Seregios.
However a guide like this, like my other guides takes time to make, and I eventually realised that there are way too many different weapons and different dodging/parrying/guarding options for each weapons (and I do not play all of them on top) to the point that I can't simply sum it all up to "just dodge" when I'm breaking down a specific move from a monster and explaining how to avoid it or counter it etc.
"Initially, I was going to complain that it's impossible to KO Hazard Primordial Malzeno twice as you can see in this run, but the fight is so good and so short that in the end, I feel so much more engaged in it. monster being resistant to stunlocks was the main part why i enjoyed the fatalis fight so much when it came out... they rly should add random roll on investigations that would say something like "cannot be stunned/knocked down/tired/paralized/trapped" the better you get at the game the more boring it becomes cause monsters just dont attack anymore lol
also was wirebug bind effect random when it got to "10 hit combo" phase?( 3:10 ) or you somehow triggered it intentionally? i must say thats great way to keep him in place lol
Which layered armor is that
Do you think Primordial Malzeno's set could improve the Hammer BiS'?
Can you explain me how you can hit him as fast as you can ? I think i just miss something in m'y gameplay... You charge hit thé charge instant to thé second phase and hit and charge to thé third phase and final hit but dont know how is it possible. Can you explain me please ?
I really don't understand your question, but I'm guessing that you don't know about the Courage Hammer Switch Skill?
any tips on how to dodge the aerial wing slam with the lingering hitbox (and mega giga tracking?), cant seem to avoid it no matter what direction i roll, even with evadwind5 and/or extender2
if you mean the one at 3:36, rolling forward should work
I'm not sure which move you are referring to. If you mean the one where Primordial Malzeno stays in the air, creates a ring of exploding Qurio balls, and then comes down slamming both wings in front of him, you just have to stay within the circle and then roll to avoid the wings slam.
@@dynamo_lynn oh i forgot about that one, the one im having trouble with is the other one, the double wing swipe/slam that makes the ground break, the aerial version. Combos ground version into aerial version when in bloodlust.
@@seihoukeh Then as MelloMallo said, rolling towards Malzeno and staying under him is the way to go, like I did in this video.
Get me a girl with a hammer
Beautiful run
is this katie lynn?
?
流石です!
Is that Old Dragonslayer theme from DS2?
EDIT: oh the description confirms it lol
The final edit was cool but it made watching the end of the run painful
Thanks for the feedback on that part!
@@dynamo_lynn Amazing run though and the end isn’t very long
At first I wasn’t really into his last phase combo. Depending on the weapon you can throw an attack here and there but it’s pretty much just waiting for him to finish.
Despite that, every move is just so thigh and on your ass that it still keeps you engaged.
Great fight overall👍, first time I consider the overarching rise tracking to serve a purpose other than just forcing counters.
Such a shame that we won't see a Special Inv. version. Imagine this with 170,000 hp or so to chew through.
Was a nice journey on your channel. See you in MH6.
Is ex risen shagaru still harder?
Yes.
Damn gg ! It took me 30~ minutes to beat base PrimZeno with Valstrax lance lol
Maybe it's because i'm used to fighting afflicted monsters with a Morbillion health, but I can't help but feel Primalzeno goes down too quickly for a send off. I was hoping the hazard would rectify that but doesn't seem the case. It's still a fantastic fight but I want to fight it MORE!
Well done
Hammer bros for life!!!
Brilliant
I don't know what you said, but that's so much damage that you don't give to kill that creature. Three or four times more damage to kill that bug.
@@Samura49? I genuinely do not understand your comment
@@dynamo_lynn I think you can't kill this monster with just the amount of damage you dealt. For some reason, I needed to deal 4x or 5x more damage to kill it.
@@Samura49 Have you considered that you're 1) Not using a set as powerful as mine 2) Not using the right Palamutes 3) Not using the right Followers 4) Not playing as well 5) Using another weapon? Are you calling me a cheater here or something?
@@dynamo_lynn The problem isn't the points you put in. But the total damage you dealt doesn't match the total damage I needed to deal to kill the monster.
@@Samura49 Do you pause the game and count the damage you deal mid-fight or something? Lmao. Again, different player skill, different weapon or set, and damage dealt by your Palamutes is important too.
Bonk Master
