Went through a different but similar journey this year with transitioning into car-free living. This experience isn’t easy to articulate but I feel like you communicated it really well. I feel like my community was whispering so many secrets and I never heard them from inside my car. I don’t want to ever go back to that, it sounds like you don’t either.
@@DrewG8 wow, “my community was whispering so many secrets and I never heard them from inside my car.” That is so beautiful. I completely agree. The shift here has been too profound to want to go back. Glad we’re journeying together!
I also got rid of my car last year, and I totally agree with you! The largest change I've noticed is that I've stopped having bad days. Even if I have a stressful day at work, riding home just makes me so much happier.
What an awesome video. I can relate to so much of what you've talked about - Cycling has improved my life physically, mentally, and spiritually as well. As a queer kid back in the 1980's, feeling isolated and wrestling with depression, discovering cycling literally saved my life. 40+ years later I'm still in love with the two-wheeled life and all the freedom it brings.
couldn't agree more with you on all points. i sold my car twelve years ago, started using bicycles as my main means of transportation and mobility two years afterwards and never look back.
All great points. I never realized how much driving affected me until I stopped doing it. I arrive at work/home full of energy when I rode my bike. Driving was exhausting.
Agree with you on all points, especially the mental and emotional health improvements! The days I don't bike commute are noticeably off. Maybe I should get rid of my car too?! The only negative I have about bike commuting is that mice start nesting in my car and cause issues cause I don't drive it very often.
Great video! You and I both replaced our trucks with cargo bikes! (High 5! 🖐️) I'd love to see a video about how you get to gravel events car-free! Public transit to rural areas is usually terrible. I actually had to rent a car to get to the last ride I went on. 😢 Keep up the good work!
YES ! HIGH FIVES ALL AROUND!!! To tell the truth, I often just bum a ride with friends. I still have my 4 bike hitch rack, so as long as a friend has a two inch hitch on their car, we can bring up to 4 people and their bikes. Going car free is great for people who want to be in more community with others! :D
subscribed! i am just starting my bike journey in dallas and its so refreshing to see the queer side of the community as a lesbian myself :] looking forward to future adventures 🎉
Amazing!!! What kind of riding are you doing? Berm Peak just did a great video on riding around Dallas. Definitely not on the queer side of things, but a great channel!
@ Mostly riding trails (i already hike a lot so I’m fairly familiar with the trails out here) but also just average commuting stuff when i have the time and exercising my dog along with me (I used to bikejore with her and she missed it!) :) I actually saw Berm Peak’s video upload as I was preparing to leave for the inner city area and was like “oh no!!!” but watched a few minutes and realized I would be just fine 😂

Dang, I love that so much! We gotta let people know: You don't have to have bad days!!!

Thank you so much! I really does mean so much to me that this resonated with you! Here's to more good days on bikes!
