For me it was Listen Like Thieves. I got it for Christmas in 1986. I love EVERY song on that album, especially the first three: What You Need, Listen Like Thieves and Kiss the Dirt. I'm also a big fan of Red Red Sun and Same Direction. Anyway, I played that cassette at least 3xs a day. I wore it out in a year. I also said if their next album is half as good as this, they'll be huge! The following year, 1987, I got Kick for my 15th birthday. I was the first kid in my group of friends to have it. When 1988 rolled around, everyone had it. I saw them in concert in June of '88 with my mom, who loves them too. I listened Kick even more and wore it out in less than a year. I bought second cassette of both albums and wore them out. Then, when CDs became the rage the first two I bought were Listen Like Thieves and Kick, what a surprise 😂😂
‘Don’t Change’ is another super-banger from the same INXS album as ‘the One Thing’. As for Tears for Fears…’Advice for the Young at Heart’ from 1989. Amazing song!
Saw them on tour in San Diego about 1990. Phenomenal show. Use to buy tickets from a record shop that was also ticker reseller. No internet or smart phones back then. Paper Ticketron.
Here in the States, this was our first taste of INXS. I rarely listen to it anymore, but it was cool and made us aware of a band that was about to explode to superstardum.
Glad you're reacting to more INXS, especially in their early years. Just Keep Walking, Black and White, To Look At You, Dancing On The Jetty, Stay Young are some more of their early songs.
Here's the full set to hear: INXS (Don't change, Original sin, Listen like thieves, This time, Taste it, By my side, Disappear, Just keep walking, The one thing, Kiss the dirt, Good times [Jimmy Barnes], Not enough time, To look at you, The loved one, Kick, Mediate, Need you tonight, Never tear us apart, Mystify, New Sensation, Guns in the sky, Devil Inside, Beautiful girl, Afterglow, The strangest party, Elegantly wasted, Suicide blonde)
They MUST do "Mediate," that song is the bomb. Amber will love it, ha. I could have sworn the original album version of "Need You Tonight" as well as the video for it just segued into "Mediate," but I can only find the two songs broken up now.
I was lucky enough to see INXS in a 1000 person auditorium in Charlotte around 87. It was fire. First show I remember with beer at the concession stand. Had a few. Sweated. The beautiful lady in my living room was with me. She enjoyed it immensely and she wouldn't say that about every concert I took her to see.
They were so young here! Aren't the guitars and keyboards perfect in this song?? This is probably my favorite song of theirs, although it's damn hard to pick with INXS. Keep going with this band, they're a treasure trove of 80s and 90s hits! I often wonder what would have happened to their trajectory if Michael Hutchence hadn't died. He sure did leave behind an incredible legacy of music, though.
Maybe my favorite of all INXS songs (although it's almost impossible to choose one favorite from such an incredible catalog). Definitely the first song I heard from them and i was immediately won over. It's slinky, it's funky, it's got sax, and it still rocks!
Michael Hutchence actually starred in a full movie about a band and the scene in Melbourne. The full movie is on YT search Dogs In Space. Such a great indie film. A trip to the house in Richmond used to be on the local 'must do' list. literally moved to Melbourne from the US the week Skylab fell. Themovie also answers the important question of 'How do you know when you've had a good time?" ;)
Love this song, Jay and Amber! It served as my introduction to INXS, and I wanted to be as cool as they were. Another great early tune should check out is Original Sin.
Yay, more INXS. I have to recommend their live performance in Wembley Stadium, 1991. They recorded it for a whole DVD called, Live Baby Live. Each song is broken down to its own video on RUclips. You should try 'New Sensation' or 'What You Need', it gives the experience of a their live shows when they were literally one of the handful of top bands in the whole world. I never suggest live videos but INXS does live as well or better than almost any other band.
I bought the re-release of that in 4k. I saw them in 1991. I wasn't even a fan at the time, my girlfriend wanted to go. They put on one of the best arena shows I've ever seen.
@@troypuls5424 Yes, absolutely amazing. I've watched that whole performance many, many times. I'm glad I got to see them in the early 90s. It's all a blur in my memory, I just know I was screaming my head off the whole time, lol.
Great video guys. Everyone who was tuned in to MTV the night this song premiered on that channel knew right away they were looking at a star. Michael ticked all of the boxes. This band ticked all of the boxes everything about them worked and they had the songs to back it up. This band was not going to fall into that early MTV '80s category of acts you just saw and then they vanished just like that. This band had a longevity and musical vision that was all their own and there was nothing like them. There was no one that sounded like them and they truly set themselves apart and they earned the run that they had during their time in their music still holds up to this very day in 2025 it was that good then and now.
This was the very first INXS song I ever heard...so that distinction makes it my favorite of theirs. They have made many other great songs, but for me, this is THE BIG ONE. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I am glad that you got to this one.
INXS are an amazing band! So influential and they deserve their props! To this day there is no vocalist/frontman like Michael Hutchence. So soulful with a unique sex appeal.
I enjoy making people feel old AF. I remember this song coming out in 7th grade. The album was given away as a prize in a school wide "Pepsi Challenge Show" in the school auditorium. Yes, this song is as old as "The Pepsi Challenge". How many bottlecaps did you collect?
Some of their earliest songs didn't chart as high as their later more radio-friendly ones did, but song like 'The One', 'Don't Change' and 'Black and White' are three of my favorites by them.
This song still rocks today! It is in my top 10 songs of all time. Great song and great album. You need to check out there first two albums---when they were a bit punky. They were called INXS and Underneath the Colours. Still Michael's voice but the music was different. To see the band in 1980...WOW!! You could tell they had the "IT" factor back then! Great reaction as usual. Keep the music going! Cheers
Need more 90s INXS! "Not enough time", "Suicide blonde", "Bitter tears", "Beautiful girl ", "The strangest party", "Elegantly wasted", " The gift", to name a few.
The Strangest Party is my top ten of favorite INXS songs. I love the video. Suicide Blonde is in my top five. The Gift could be in my top ten. It's competing with Devil Inside, Baby Don't Cry, Deliver Me and Let It Ride.
Bought this RECORD when it came out. Boyfriend turned his nose up at it as " more of your flash in the pan, going nowhere new wave garbage. " Haha, look how HUGE they got. GREAT SONG! LOVES .E SOME INXS!!!!! ❤❤❤❤
We seen this new upcoming band from Australia at the FREE admission WMMS Cleveland agora coffee break concert right before they released shabu-shaa!! Walking out everyone knew they were going to be superstars.
I got to see Inxs in a pub in Sydney back in 1983 , bloody amazing . This was their first big hit in Australia and climbing the Aussie charts very fast .
One of my favourites! Aussie rock in the 80s was gold and they were all over using the sax. Cold Chisel is another band that uses a lot of sax. Check out Breakfast at Sweethearts.
A couple fun facts about this video. The women in the video are the bandmates' girlfriends. The blonde sitting next to Tim Farriss is his wife, Buffy. The brunette, with the long wavy hair, was Michael's girlfriend, Michele Bennett. I'll go along with some of the other video suggestions: Suicide Blonde is a killer song and a top ten hit in the US., The video has interesting visual tricks. Disappear is a gorgeous black and white video and INXS' last top ten song in the US. Both come from the album X, which was after Kick and their last platinum album in the US. Both worth a look and listen. Other Suggested INXS videos: Listen Like Thieves Kiss the Dirt This Time Just Keep Walking (from their debut album) The Spy of Love Anything from the 1990s: Beautiful Girl Heaven Sent Taste It Not Enough Time Baby Don't Cry The Gift Time Please (with Ray Charles) Elegantly Wasted Don't Lose Your Head The Strangest Party (These are the Times) As far as Tears for Fears: Working Hour Mother's Talk Pale Shelter (Love the song and video)
Great song off of THE SWING album, released in 1984. MTV had been showing a number of Aussie bands at the time, including MEN AT WORK who were MTV darlings at the time. INXS videos were now beginning to air and showing the American audience another excellent Aussie band. Little did we know how huge they would become. This is the first INXS video/song to play on MTV. Check out - "Heaven Sent", "Original Sin", "Baby Don't Cry", "What You need", "Good Times (from Lost Boys movie)", "Calling All Nations", "Mediate", "Listen Like Thieves" to name a bunch. Keep them coming.
Amazing song and reaction! I think it’s time for y’all to hear another legendary Aussie band - The Church. “Under the Milky Way” is one of the most atmospheric and sublime songs you’ll ever have the pleasure of hearing.
Early INXS is always my favorite. To Look at You and Don't Change off the same record are my favorites. Just Keep Walking is an earlier song but worth checking out.
Always loved the part of the video where the cat was walking on the food. As for their connection to Tears For Fears, here is the missing link. With INXS's first two albums, they sounded very much like early XTC and were inspired by a 1978 concert by them (and by their name being just letters). Meanwhile, Roland Orzabal of Tears For Fears is a big fan of XTC, particularly their album "Black Sea".
You've done a few of their songs but you still haven't done probably their most widely played song around the world "original sin". This is a must when reacting to INXS.
MTV used to play this at least 4 times a day! INXS is one of My Favorite All Time Groups! They were so Funky, and with Michael (RIP) and the talented Guys were Awesome!
when this song came out they played where I lived in a small town in Ohio They played at the local quarry and recreated this dinner scene. Nobody knew who they were at the time. This was near Toledo Ohio. I'm glad they made it big
I had totally forgotten about this song! This was my Junior year in high school. I had just gotten my license and I remember cruising Virginia St in Reno with this cranked on my radio! Thanks for bringing back an amazing set of memories!
“Don’t change” by INXS is fantastic!
They did that one already. It's my fav INXS song!
@@ericwilliams1031 mine too!
This was the first INXS song in the states released !! Glad you finally did it !!
I'm so excited! I've been waiting for this!
Before don’t change?
I heard Don't Chage before The One Thing. Both are absolutely FIRE!
Yes, before (Spring 1983).@@mikeferguson6644
my all time favorite
Shabooh Shoobah was my first INXS tape and remains my favourite album of theirs.
And what a cool name for an album, ha.

Two great songs
Words out of my mouth -for both suggestions!!!!
Tears for Fears songs they still should check out: "Mothers Talk", "The Working Hour", "Call Me Mellow", and "Elemental".
INXS songs: "Suicide Blonde" and "Good Times" with Jimmy Barnes.
@@btgiv6009 yeah, those are all solid. ‘Working Hour’ is one of my favorites. ‘Call Me Mellow’ is great as well.
OMG!! THANK YOU!!! is about time!! this is the very first INXS song I owned way back in the 1980's 🙂
RIP Michael Hutchence ❤
Kiss the dirt (falling down the mountain) one of my favorite songs of INXS hope you take a listen.
Suicide Blonde is a great song by INXS
Yes, yes Suicide Blonde is a must, a live version if you can!
YEP - This was the FIRST Song that introduced INXS to the U.S. in 1982....and what an introduction it was!!
I'm so glad you guys like this one! And yes, absolutely, the sax is fire!
INXS - "Original Sin".

Great band, the guitarist, drummer and keyboard player are brothers. The sax player's wife won the women's world surfing title 7 times
Song still sounds great after more than forty years. Amazing.
One of my all-time favorites by INXS and I honestly remember seeing this on MTV back in 83/or early 84. Love your reaction!!!
