Interesting video. I have the original Hy-Road and was wondering how it might compare to the Hy-Road X. With that said after watching this review of both balls I failed to see any significant difference. So I will stay with the Hy-Road until it wears out.
Would like to see your look with a little polish knocked off of it to see the change. I can almost never leave factory polish on higher RG pieces with my tilt (17*) and my rotation (67*) with a 490 rev rate. I’m not sure if your specs are similar but it’d be cool to see with like 3000 or 4000
Yeah, I've had the thought but I actually like the polish lol, and if I like something, I REALLY don't want to mess with the surface . . so maybe one of these days I'll be able to drill two balls per review and mess with the surface on one. I would expect similar results to when I did it with the Hustle Ink, it's a very Ink-ish ball to begin with, so I think surface adjustments would be really predictable. Earlier, smoother, but still pretty firm on the backend.
Thank you. I just want to thank you for helping me view this video I'm really hyped tip see tha reviews on this ball. And I enjoy your reviews they are fun and informative. Yea! no headaches while watching tha video yea ya ya love godlike yea ya ya :D
Cool! Not a problem at all, have a couple more comparison videos coming soon against the Hyroad Pearl and Hyroad Nano, so you'll be able to see a lot more of it. And honestly keeping it simpler is less work and headaches for me LOL!
Hi Luke, any resources you might have as to where I might take a class on speaking Bowlanese would be greatly appreciated. The only language courses that my community college offers are Spanish, French and Japanese.
Loool . . well the most important thing is to think about the definitions of the words being used, because I think that's what trips people up the most. Most bowling words or phrases are just regular words used to describe bowling things, so if you think about what those words actually mean, you should be in good shape. There's a lot of bowling slang definitely, but when it comes to describing ball reaction, there's very little, just regular words being used to describe what's going on.
Core numbers between 15# and 16# seem VERY different, enough to maybe warrant different layouts...? I'm inspired to try and find out! I can't tell you how many times I watched this video ahead of getting my Hyroad X almost 4 years ago. I think my PSO may still have a couple. Is this still a relevant ball?
Just repoed my 08 hyroad from my son, he wasn't throwing it because "don't like it". Well I do, so it's now being redrilled for me again (he's 2 handed). I'm looking at this ball (the x) as a pure benchmark for me, I'll have to be careful with the Val setting it up as I'm looking for smooth continuation and my hyroad with my old 70x4-1/2x30 could get a bit sideways if it didn't see the midlane enough. Had to keep surface on it. You mind suggesting a layout? I'm 475rev /19mph off hand /12degrees tilt/5-3/4"over 1-3/8" up pap Thanks for the review and comparison.
I'd go something like 45 x 4 1/2 x 70, likely put you pin down or the pin should be really close to the ring finger either way I'm guessing. Gives you sooner, average flare, continuation, and a smoother backend read.
They aren't really on the same planet, very different balls, very different cores, the X is long and pretty sharp, the Phaze was early, rolly and smooth
Luv your vids Luke. Growing my arsenal and need some advice. 180 lge player currently, always moving up since starting 2 years ago and I've started doing a couple House Tourneys and hoping to get to sport one's soon. Currently I have a Sure Lock, Hyper Cell Fused, and a roto spare ball. Looking for something symetrical and weaker then my 2 big boy blocks. Mid speed, med rev tweener bowler. Been locking in on the Hy Road X or Idol Pearl, leaning towards the X mostly to balance out my current arsenal. Tell me what to do! lol. Thanx :)
I'd actually go Idol Pearl, there's going to be a really big jump from your Fused down to it already, you'd likely use the Idol Pearl a lot more than the X
hey luke what is the main difference between hyroad vs hyroad pearl vs hyroad nano? and which one would you recommend for a 14-16mph 2 handed player? thanks!
Hyroad and Hyroad Pearl are the same cover formula, just hybrid and solid types so they're fairly similar, but the Hyroad Nano has a much stronger cover, so it hooks a fair amount more, and is also smoother. It depends on too much to really tell, what do you throw and like right now? Or what do you use that works the best for you?
@@LukeRosdahl what balls would you recommend for someone who wants to play around 25 board through 3rd arrow with a smooth arc and a generous amount of miss room and also can last me through 3-5 games without having to switch balls (ie. good for fresh and transition)? thanks!
Again, there's just too many variables to give a good answer, it depends a lot on the conditions you bowl on, that may not be the best place on the lane to play, no one can bowl on the same line for 3-5 games even by themselves without having to adjust, let alone during league or something. Miss room is a product of using the right ball and playing the lane the right way, and you have to first figure out what that is, not decide how you want to play the lanes and try to force it to work even if it really can't. There's too many things that go into bowling to just pick something without knowing more information or seeing you bowl.
@@LukeRosdahl Thanks, I was just curious how much of a difference my ball would be to your comparisons. I subscribed to your awesome content. Gonna go through all your tech talk videos next👍🏻
Hi luke I love your videos they are very helpful! I am a fairly newer bowler I’m more down and in type player. I’m looking for a new ball for league I currently roll a storm intense and a motiv jackal ghost. I’m looking for a ball that has a lot of backend since it seems like my intense and jackal burn up energy. I have had my eye on a hy road. What do you think? Thank you so much Luke keep up the great videos
Which one and why? Less than zero in common, you just want to know if they could compliment each other? Either one of these would be a couple steps down from the P2 at least, but they could be in the same bag.
Hey Luke, can you give me a comparison between the hyroad x, hyroad solid (og red one) and the Optimus solid? I notice the x has the core of the hy road(duh) and the cover of the Optimus solid. Both of these balls are personal favorites of mine.
The Hyroad Solid was like a weaker Hyroad Nano, but it was a little inconsistent, not really considered that great of a ball. Optimus Solid also not considered that great of a ball, tended to die on the backend and be flat or soft, both were better with polish. Hyroad X is basically an arrow stronger version of the Hyroad Pearl, plus being quicker on the backend and a bit more continuous. SO, if you actually liked both the Hyroad Solid and the Optimus Solid, this one is a lot better, but not very similar to the Optimus at all, core in the Optimus is much stronger and earlier, much different roll, the Optimus was early and smooth, the X is most definitely not.
@@LukeRosdahl yeah it's weird that I like both of them, but I had my first 3 (of 5) 300 games with the Optimus, among other success. I also always found it interesting that balls can share so much on paper but be opposites on the lanes. With the X being a polished solid, is the shape similar to the hustle INK, just a lot stronger?
Love the vids as always, I have a question though looking to pick up a new ball for the fall season again. I just threw the Idol and Hyroad X at a storm/roto demo. Loved both balls but trying to decide between one or the other. Currently the house's im bowling at are wood lanes with a medium/heavy volume. I'm a 2 hander 450 revs 10* axis tilt 50* axis rotation,16-17 mph on the monitor, what would you recommend between the 2. I love the shape of both with obviously the idol being a bit stronger. Currently throwing a Soniq and Code red, my biggest concern is the X overlapping with what I currently have. Sorry for the long comment wasn't sure where the best place to reach out to you on this would be. Been watching your vids for over a year and really value your views on ball reaction and shape. Thanks, Mike
I don't think either ball would overlap, the X is quite a bit longer and a couple boards weaker than either ball you have, the Idol shapes more like the two you have, but is obviously stronger. An option is also getting the X and taking the shine off, but it really depends if you need more or less hook than the Son!Q and Code Red. Both the Idol and the X have a pretty wide range of versatility, you can shine the Idol up and reduce the hook and increase length quite a bit if it's too much, or you can sand the X if it's too long and flippy, so a lot of options with both, just depends on if you want more or less ball than you already have. If you want stronger, go Idol, if you want weaker, go X. The X isn't a WEAK ball, it's just weakER than what you currently have.
@@LukeRosdahl thanks for the response, that's pretty much where I was landing on it. If I was at my usual synthetic houses I'd be all over the idol. I just worry that it can be a bit much on the older wood lanes. Thank you for the input really appreciate it!
@@LukeRosdahl the more I think about it once the idol lane shines a bit it should settle in perfect. Like you talked about at the one house when you can wheel on it you get comfortable and make better shots.
If you super shined an IQ Tour, they'd be fairly similar as far as hook potential goes, but the X would still be longer and sharper, IQ Tour has a much lower RG and diff, so it will be earlier and smoother.
Mark Langeneker Two really really different balls, super strong core in the Code Black and a weaker cover actually than the X, X much weaker, longer core, Code Black probably hooks 3-4 boards more, couple feet earlier and smoother

@@jefffenton211 Actually yeah that'd be a pretty good setup. If you kept the PhysiX at box, I don't think so, but it lane shines and gets weaker pretty quick. I like it that way, but if you want it for your oiler, it CAN do that just fine, just need to keep the surface fresh
