    One of my favorite lines in this entire show is Endeavor screaming "Stand up and show them why you're better" to me it spoke volumes about his character. He's known for a long time that All Might was someone he envied and looked up to, and that he made such terrible choices in regards to his family. To me it sounded as if Endeavor needed All Might to be the justification of his actions, and that deep down Endeavor knows he's made mistakes on his path to the top of the hero world.

    One of the crazy things to consider about this fight is that *neither* of them are fighting at their full strength. All Might is running on fumes and is running up to and past the time limit of his best fighting condition and is hampered from his prior injuries, while All For One is quite literally on life support and has been forced to lay low and abstain from Quirk use for years. So this fight isn't the clash of titans one might think it is; it's the last hurrah of two tired old men. Makes me wish we could have seen these two fighting at their primes.

    It’s cut from the show, but in the manga, after All for One’s and All Might’s battle, All for One is being wheeled through Tartarus (in a straight jacket and life support) he explains to the employee wheeling him that: since All Might destroyed the upper half of his face in their last battle, All for One now sees through an infrared quirk and by sending vibrations. Also the employee is heavily intimidated by the fact that: in All for One’s heavily weakened state he managed to cause so much destruction and go toe to toe with All Might. They also, on the way to All for One’s cell, wheel by Stain’s cell, showing that he’s still around and alive

      This is also prompted by AFO coming-to and asking where the hell he's at & the guard trying to respond in stereotypical antagonistic prison guard fashion "It's the highest security prison in Japan, where you're gonna be spending the rest of your sorry life," to which he just responds "oh, no wonder I can barely see, there must be infrared lasers all over the place," like he could not give the slightest shit about being in Tartarus, he was just genuinely confused by not being able to 'see.'

    This is why All for One is of my favorite villains. He is not just powerful, he doesn't fight just with raw power, instead he fights the psychological war. He literally cracked down All Might, technically All for One won that fight, if it wasn't for the other heroes and the cheers of the people All Might could lose and die then and there. All for One's quirk is the least of concerns when comes to fight him, his inteligence is his best weapon.

      It says a lot about his consideration of emotional connection to others that he tried to use Deku against him, to bring him lower and not realise that that mention was the spark All Might needed to get back up and fight more. Because he doesn't have connections and care, he can't understand how love can drive you to fight on - not only to kill, but to live - so he assumes that throwing Deku's name in All Might's face will weaken him, when instead it gives him the strength he needed to overcome him.
      It really builds his character so much - he's smart and willing to take nasty shots to hurt you, to aim psychologically as well as physically, but he underestimated the emotions connecting people and only ever sees them as weaknesses (thus how he teaches Shigaraki by cutting him off) to be thrown away. If he'd understood how strong they could make a person, he would never have reminded All Might that he had someone waiting for him, needing him.

    In the Japanese sub, All Might points and says "you're next" instead of "now it's your turn". I personally like the latter better because while youre next sounds more like a challenge to villains, now it's your turn sounds more like an inspirational message to the public: to step up, continue the road I laid out.

    • @apexyl5135
      @apexyl5135 8 месяцев назад +1

      The subbed very often makes me disappointed. The translations are too literal, so a lot of those heavy lines just aren’t given their substance.
      Just as an example, when Midoriya was protecting Iida from Stain, and Iida told him to get away from there because it had nothing to do with him. In the dub, Midoriya says “If you believe that, then why are you trying to become a hero in the first place?”
      In the sub, it literally just says “if you say that, then heroes can’t do anything!”
      I’m sure that maybe that subbed line could maybe pack some weight, but it kinda doesn’t, because the focus of that fight was Iida’s dark side. It just feels out of context. It was translations like that (and also I just don’t like the voices for the subbed), that really turned me from it.

    I love how this fight is primarily just All Might struggling to find reason after reason to keep going. First it's just his conviction to beat All For One, then AFO reveals his weak form and he quickly grabs a hold of his status as the Symbol of Peace to stay motivated. AFO retaliates by telling him about Tomura's relation to Nana, and he is momentarily crushed, but a cry of desperation from a nearby civilian is enough to get him refocused and he clenches his fist once more remembering his master's words.
    The situation still feels somewhat hopeless though as All For One comments about his clenched fist being the last of his strength, only having 1 or 2 more attacks; how can he hope to win this fight with so little left? The other heroes show up and get all the injured off the battlefield as well as reminding him what he means to everyone again, keeping him focused on his heart.
    "Let's stop dwelling on heroism, and start focusing on reality." As he blasts away everyone except All Might with a single attack. A fantastic line and once again we see All For One desperately trying to keep All Might out of his own head, knowing how fierce he can be when he gets fired up (having gotten his head blown off last time). He gets ready for the finishing blow at a part in the fight where it seems he's succeeded, hoping to kill All Might with a punch even though he could just stand around and blast ranged attacks all day just for the extra symbolic damage.
    He smugly remarks on how he knows Deku is the next holder of OFA, perhaps his greatest mistake as he just gave All Might one more reason to fight. All Might focuses on Deku in this moment of seemingly utter doom, and he pulls a very Deku style trick out of his bag in the form of breaking his bones to win, and swapping the power around to his other arm. Even All For One is taken aback by this trickery "...so unlike you!" he remarks.
    You know the rest. Shouldn't of brought up Deku, he was getting a little too cocky with that one.
    There's even some context later that makes this moment somehow more impactful, but I'll let you get to that when you get to that ;D

      Not exactly true. Shigaraki is 100% Nana Shimura's grandson and AFO knows that. In episode 9 or 10 (can't remember which), it shows a flashback of when AFO met/recruited Shigaraki and reveals that "Tomura Shigaraki" is not in fact his real name. It's Tenko Shimura. (Unless you're talking about him attempting to prove it to All Might bc then its pretty much AFO's word against All Might's beliefs but because of the shock factor of it potentially being true, All Might pretty much just believed him on the spot without stopping to question "why am i believing the words of this dude that wants me humiliated and deceased?")

The previous one with All Might being like "are you having trouble?" and Endeavor going "does it LOOK like I'm having trouble?!" and then in this episode, Endeavor angrily pushing All Might forward because he needs All Might to be his motivation to be stronger. (Even quirk-wise, Bakugou and Endeavor have similarities. Bakugou would probably be pretty angry being compared to him - or anyone - though!)

    Interesting that you brought up Pieck pointing at Eren and the camera simultaneously in AoT when talking about characters talking to the audience. I thought you'd mention the scene in Grisha's flashback with Sergeant Major Gross when he stares directly into the viewer's eyes as he explains that people actually want to see cruelty, that peace is somewhat lacking, that witnessing such things helps him to keep touch with the reality of death, while also recognizing that if what he were doing were happening to his loved ones he'd be heartbroken. That moment speaks to the power of using a character as a mouthpiece to speak to the viewer, whether it be encouragement or ridicule. I think this show does it really well with this scene as well.

    In the same way that Deku has been learning from All Might, All Might has also been learning from Deku. It wasn't All Might's usual strategy of "punch it harder until I win" that let him beat All For One, but instead him sacrificing one arm as bait, then using it after a second bait punch, even though it was broken and destroyed, to get the unexpected final blow, a move taken right out of Deku's book. All For One was ready to beat All Might channeling Nana Shimaru, but All Might channeling Deku and using his sacrificed, broken body was the thing that All For One was not prepared for, and won All Might the fight.

    I feel like a possible solution to the overreliance on heroes could just be to introduce some kinda Good Samaritan law, cuz currently most people can't legally use their quirks in public, most everyday people being able to save the day would be a huge game changer. Of course due to the inexperience most non-heroes have with their quirks it'd be a challenge and liability in crisis situations, but society can eventually overcome this by introducing basic quirk training in all schools

    I'm a few reactions behind, but I figured I'd comment anyway. One thing I found interesting, and it's something you brought up in the episode as well, is that All for One truly doesn't care about killing All Might, he wants to humiliate him. He probably has several combinations of quirks that could instantly disable All Might, (sludge self-teleportation quirk + air cannon + multiplication into an active volcano, is one example I can think of), But instead, he uses a combination purely to out-PUNCH All Might only where a massive crowd will witness it.

    Some neat parallels i noticed. All Might fighting like Midoriya by putting all of his power into one arm. Also this final act of All Might as a pro is the same as when we first saw him. Bakugo is in trouble, deku meddles, all might pushes past his limit, and finished the fight with the same pose while creating a tornado.

    after hearing your thoughts on All Might pointing at the camera I realised how interesting it is that Deku only mentions that for most people it probably meant some kind of warning to the villains that the symbol still stands strong.. the fact that he doesnt even consider All Might might not just speak to him or the villains but also to every hero and individual to step up and be heroic now that he cant be their sole protector and pillar of reliance anymore is so ironic.. even Deku instinctively excludes everyone else from the equation as its just how things were with All Might. He probably doesnt actively think that the other heroes dont need to do more now etc but hes 1. right on the All Might path of "gotta be able to protect everyone myself" and 2. subconsciously used to things be this way where people and even a good portion of the heroes can be somewhat complacent.. im pretty sure that in a world without All Might but villains like All For One we wouldnt see heroes striving to be heroes for the sake of money and fame. In general there wouldnt be as many heroes given the stakes and short life spans of heroes. Who knows maybe MHA will actually explore this theme of the people and most heroes having become too complacent and not being prepared for reality in the future? Exlcuding characters like Endeavour ofc and ERWIN SMITH WHO SINGLEHANDEDLY (with the help of a few scouts)....

    Man MHA is severely underrated I feel like it's played off as just another shonen when in reality it's some of the best story telling we got. I've never seen naruto but I know it has tons of filler and such and from what I know this feels like what a polished down naruto would be just highlighting all the good and keeping up a stable pace. I really love this show I think its incredibly consistent

      MHA is definitely underrated and I feel like a lot of people hate it because of the 'toxic' fandom. They don't know anything about the show and just write it off as stupid because of it. Don't get me wrong, there are some really crazy and unhinged people in the fandom, but it's not the whole. It's just that the crazy and toxic fanbase for MHA is a lot louder than the people who just want to enjoy the show. And a fandom shouldn't really have any merit on whether the show is good or not, anyway.
      I also think a lot of the hate comes from Deku being the protagonist. People say that he's 'weak' and a 'crybaby'. He's really not either of those. All the times he's cried have been extrememly emotional and overwhelming moments for him, except for like maybe two that were used for comedic effect. And he was 'whiny' in the beginning because he'd been bullied for ten years and didn't have anyone to stand up for him, plus zero confidence in himself.

Death would be much more painless and easy, all might’s life is about to get pretty dark I think

    Even without their full powers, All For One and All Might decimated multiple city blocks, in an area as densely populated as Japan is thats so many lives destroyed in seconds. The woman who crawled out of the rubble is one of the lucky ones being able to pull herself out, how many others were under there. Also the information about Shigaraki effects All Might so much because his relationship to Nana was the same as Deku to him, All Might is Deku's father figure while also being his mentor. So this dude is basically mocking the memory of the person All Might saw as a mom.

  • @mrrd4444
    @mrrd4444 3 года назад +2

    All Might isn't at fault for the issues of Hero Society, but was unfortunately used as a way to kind of gloss over them. Like "look All Might can take care of everything, we're fine" because he was so effective a deterrent. It's not his fault so much as the fault of the ones around him becoming complacent. So I like to say that a lot of the issues were unfortunately facilitated by All Might's rise, but not his fault at all. And now that he's falling the heroes realise they have to step up, which is awesome.

      Yeah for some reason they are being EXTREMELY aggressive with copyright claims for 3x10 and 3x11. As you might know, Patreon is 1 week ahead of RUclips in the video schedule, which means these videos sit on "unlisted" status on RUclips for about a week before they go public. That works well for me because it gives me time to troubleshoot copyright problems.
      But with 3x10 and 3x11, I did about 7 or 8 versions of each, and had to redo them right before posting, which is why 3x10 got claimed again and why this video will probably suffer the same fate! But it seems to be largely the "big" episodes. I've uploaded through 3x14 and haven't had any serious issues.

    You talk about the callous comments made by people watching the All Might/All For One fight and how they're probably that way because they're not directly affected by the harm villains cause. It's similar to what Shigaraki was saying in the mall episode. That All Might being the Symbol of Peace means society can go about their days like normal, smiling without a care in the world. That he made the world carefree and too comfortable.

    All Might transferred One for All to Midoriya back in season one. He hasn’t had it since then. He’s just been fighting using all the energy One for All stockpiled in his body. But he’s finally used it up.
    Hey, at least he didn’t die mid-battle when he exhausted the last of stockpiled energy. All Might seemed concerned that he’d die in battle.

    • @DavidRomigJr
      @DavidRomigJr 3 года назад

      One theory I had for a while was All Might was not quirkless when he received One for All. He obviously has a transformation quirk that gives him muscles and he already transferred One for All away so it is a separate quirk. I thought maybe that’s why he could handle One for All’s power from the get go. However, another person explained to me his muscle form is his original form, the transformation technically is into his weak form and began after All for One gave him his near fatal injury. So, he really was born quirkless.
      Considering the transfer abilities of the All for One and his brother are known to sometimes cause quirks to merge or mutate, I imagine something in the trauma or perhaps something All for One did caused All Might’s transformation to manifest. It’s interesting to speculate at any rate.

    The revelation that Shigaraki was related to All Might’s predecessor honestly threw me for a loop when I first time read through the manga/watched the show. AFO really is a cruel human being. All Might finally passing the torch off to Deku is honestly one of the most heart touching and sad things in the show, and for it to happen this early in the story is quite wild to me. Remember, you still have about 2 1/2 seasons, with season six possibly coming out by this time next year. Lots of content and concepts to explore.

      AFO is probably in my top 10 most evil, cruel, and cunning villains in anime that I've watched so far.
      All Might really did pass the torch off early, especially in comparison to other mentor figures in other shows. Most shows that I've seen either kill off the mentor before the events begin/never actually show said mentor, just mention them in passing or the mentor is alive throughout the series just conveniently never in the right place when needed.
      Plus, isn't the manga still ongoing? idk how far out it is from where the anime has left off currently (have yet to watch season 5, the first half of season 4 keeps making me too depressed to finish season 4 lmao) but still there's so much after this to explore!

    what you are discussing here today is actually quite relevant to our current society in this day and age. With the things that are going on in the world more specifically in the middle east and where I see the tragedy that is being unfurled before our very eyes there are so many that I hear that are going by the mindset "its happening someplace else, it doesn't effect me". The mirrors in that line of thought between our world and those of this super hero world in the calous nature that is portrayed here is quite disturbing

Its story may sounds pretty basic, but the way it unfolds is absolutely bonkers and a lot of fun. I especially liked that it followed not just the heroes but the villains as well, both groups of which have great chemistry and personality. I will say, if you're not used to CGI based anime it'll look weird, but I feel it worked really well. The world of The Hole looks so grimy and dirty; like you could get a disease just by touching a random light pole. And the characters are also animated very well.
