I love doing wavy line quilting. I don't free motion at all. The wavy line quilting gives a really nice overall texture--and I can do it myself!
Yes, Sadie, it is easy to do, but also very effective and you can do lots of different designs with it.
I use a similar technique with the "darning" stitch (green stitch #4) on my Bernina 930. Set it to max stitch length and width. This makes smallish waves/curves. For a more random look and bigger curves, I manipulate the quilt back and forth like you are doing in your video. When I sew both vertical and horizontal lines, it looks a bit like a puzzle.

Thank you for this tip. I am making placemats and binding from the back fabric although my binding is narrow not wide like yours. I am having a hard time doing the corners so the come out like mitered. Do you have a tip for that?

Hi! Great Video! Is your Walking Foot Attachment removable on your Janome Machine or permanently attached? If it is a removable accessory attachment Walking Foot, then it really looks to be a rare Tall Shank Style Walking Foot. And one of the skinniest less bulky Walking Feet I've seen on the Market. Had my fingers crossed my '60's/Early '70's Japanese Dressmaker Tall Shank machine could work with that Janome Walking foot.
Hi! Well I've already concluded my research investigation into the Superb Designed Walking Foot Attachment seen on Kim's *Janome* *MC9400* , and the news isn't good for those of us with other Brand Name Sewing Machines.

I can now clearly see these Amazing Compact slender sized Walking Feet are designed to only work with a Janome Sewing Machine and not my pre *Star* *Wars* Era "tall shank" Japanese Dressmaker sewing machine. The "hook thingy" in the back, that engages the even feed internal mechanism, on the AcuFeed Walking Foot has "nowhere" to go on my machine. Thus Folks like me are stuck with these "bulky general sized" Walking Foot Attachments flooding the Sewing Market.

The video sewer uploader, Kelly said this cool (but pricey) Walking foot Attachment was compatible with her Juki TL2010Q, but It sure looks to me like it could work on any "Short Shank" Straight/ZigZag Machine. Will I ever shell out approx 119.00 plus to find out? #DesignerTJP
Hi Tuck! Yes, the walking foot is removable and you can switch out different sole plates on it. There is also a narrower one too so lots of choice with this machine.
Hi Kim, are you using a knee lift to raise the presser foot? I have Horizon 7700, which I love. It's probably the older version (of Horizon) than yours. So, I wonder if it has something more advanced than using a knee lifter for that purpose??? Thanks for sharing your WF tips!
No, Carol, I'm not. The Janome 9400 has an automatic presser foot lifter so when I stop stitching, the foot automatically raises. Very handy!

Found you looking for walking foot techniques. Like the wavy line but am wondering how to use these lines with patterns like log cabin or star blocks. Do you just start in the middle and make the lines. Practicing on 20 inch blocks and will probably put them together for a lap quilt
You could do them in a variety of ways. For example, on the log cabin block, you could do sets of diagonal wavy lines - perhaps quilting a group of three wavy lines, then a space, and then 3 more wavy lines that go all the way across the block. You could start in the centre and move out to either side to do this.

Can you share more information about machine set up? Foot height, needle type, thread etc
Just using my AcuFeed Flex foot for my Janome MC9400 with the blue tip needle and 50 or 60 wt. thread (can't quite remember which I used). You can use any weight of thread that your sewing machine can handle and match the appropriate needle size to it.
Could you share info about your drop-in table? I think having one would make my quilting big quilts on my Janome 7700 much easier.
Also, would you ever use the Janome lock-stitch button in the quilting process in order to keep from having to bury thread tails into the batting?
HI Mona: My table is from Sylvia Sewing Cabinets. I'm not sure if you can still get this particular model, but you will find one similar, I'm sure. Yes, I do use the lock stitch button if I'm not concerned with seeing that bit of back stitching at the end of my quilting line.

What is the thread stand that you have attached to your machine? Is that a janome extra?
Hi Karen: This is a 2 spool thread stand that is an additional part that you can get to add to several Janome machines - it fits the 9400 and the 8900 (and probably more, but I know for sure it fits those two machines). What make is the table for inserting the janome9400? To give a flat surface to quilt
This is a cabinet from Sylvia Designs. I don't know if they still make this model, but they do have other similar ones. There is a lift for the sewing machine so you can have that so important flat bed.
How did you change the length? The default is 2.40 and mine would only go to 2.50
You should be able to change the length of a straight stitch on this machine past 2.50. I no longer have this model, but I believe that there is an area near the bottom of the display screen that shows the stitch length and there is a + icon that, when you press it, should increase the stitch length. You should be in Utility 1 stitch.

I am hating my walking foot on my brother nq950.
It's so noisy, I have it on correctly, tried rethreading, new needles, new Bob in. Re attaching.
It doesn't feed the top material through at the same rate. It's the walking foot that came with the machine.
Have you quilted large quilts using this way? I would be interested to know how you got on with that. This is very cool.
Did you drop the feed dogs?
No, the feed dogs are always up when you use the walking foot.
