You are a great instructor. Down to earth, calm, informative, encouraging, and focused. I also like the serpentine stitch. I like to run my stitch direction on the diagonal of the quilt, as it's even more forgiving. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with us. I think I'll subscribe now. :-)
This is exactly what I needed! Thanks for being encouraging and showing me how to use the wavy or zigzag stitch. I’ve been wanting to try it but hadn’t seen anyone use it on a whole quilt. Thank you so much!
Hello from Portland Oregon, you have taught me so many techniques to make quilt binding easier. One thing I learned recently is to roll my sewn, folded and ironed binding onto a empty lint roller wand. It keeps it neat and easy to roll out and then sew it on. I will try the glue/iron technique as well as joining the ends of the binding as you demonstrated. Great series of tutorials!
Amazing! I have so many quilt tops, now I can solve this situation thanks to your perfect tutorial. What a relief and I truly love how yours turned out. Thank you!!!
This video you've shared here is a game changer for me and I'm so grateful! I've been longing to try to quilt my tops instead of hand-tying and I love the wavy stitch, but I don't have an ideal set up and I didn't know to use the walking foot with it. I had such a great time following your directions to quilt a top with my walking foot, the guide and the wavy stitch! Thank you. Thank you.
So nice to see someone show you how to do a large quilt, that is using a large quilt, to see how to handle it.Will be quilting mine soon, and will try the wave line. Beautiful quilt.Thank you.
Just found your video and enjoyed your presentation. Will give this a try on one of my smaller quilts first and progress to larger. Thanks for your time and info.💕
Thanks for the great demo. I wondered how to tackle stitching close to the seams and you solved my problem. Cant wait to try this on one of my many tops that need to be quilted.
So happy to havefound your video today. I am struggling to finish a quilt and seeing what you did gave me the answer I needed. I have the same machine as you so it will be easy for the setting. Thank you so much.
Thank you so very much for this excellent machine quilting video. I have wanted to try machine quilting, and now I have the knowledge and techniques to do it. Love the serpentine stitch!
I’m glad you used your waking foot. Many think you have to free motion everything. I think many of the straight stitch machines come with a walking foot. You can also do a wavy stitch just guiding a walking foot manually.
I use this serpentine stitch so often on my quilts! Easy and great looking! I am self taught so I love to watch how others handle their quilting and your site is great for extra tips!
I have learned so much from watching your tutorial. Got so many tips from basting around the edge of the quilt top to using the walking foot with the guide & choice of wavy stitch. I think I always tugged my quilt too much etc. Thank you so much. I am a fan!
I would like to tell you that I tried this wavy line quilting on the quilt I just did and Iam obsessed. I love it. Thank you so much.. I'm trying it on a table runner currently. So easy and so nice! Placemats next. I did everything the way you taught. Thank you again.❤❤❤❤❤
This video was just what I needed to help me make that jump to quilting my own pieces. Thank you so much for all the instructions you gave! I subscribed and will be watching more of your videos.
This is a fantastic tutorial. I used all the tips for a small quilt that was a bit wonky and languishing it my WIP pile. This stitching is super forgiving and super simple. Recommend! I will also use the basting stitch for all my straight line quilting too! Thank you!!!
Thank you for this. I know this is a year ago but, this really does help. Thanks for all the info. Who knew a wavy line can be so pretty! Now I know what to do on my very first quilt.
I have a longarm. I love the wavy stitch but I have to do it all myself. It’s great because doing a straight line requires using a special ruler . I always follow a seam. You do pretty great with that machine. It has a large throat. I never sewed with a walking foot. Great video😀
Hi! I followed your advice and it worked beautifully. I’ve tried the wave stitch in the past and ended up with puckers. Thank you so much! My daughters quilt is gorgeous!
Thank you. Your tutorial is very much appreciated. Love the quilt you are quilting and your fabric choices. Sew pretty. Just found your channel and will subscribe. Thank you. 💗
Thank You so very much for this video. I have the same machine & I love how you clearly explain how you set up your machine to do this quilting & also how you talk about the challenges we might face when doing this stitching. I am very much hoping you do a similar video instructing free-motion quilting. This is an area I'd very much like to learn but am finding very challenging. Again, Thank You for your time. I love your teaching style!!
Thanks for patiently demonstrating spray basting. However, I was surprised you didn't need to use a mask indoors! It usually has some (minor) fumes, but maybe you didn't worry about it. I love sewing/quilting with my Janome 6700P. Same as your machine. Thanks for sharing your great tutorial!
Love your video, I have used this wave stitch and it looks great. Have you seen the new Flexispot adjustable sewing table? I saw it on Sookie Sews and it really helped my sewing.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have been struggling with quilting my own quilts on my JUKI HZL 5100 . Mainly because The throat space is only about six or 7 inches in width. The height is about 6 inches . I'm not sure what the width of your machine is? I sure would like to know what model your machine is also? I'm looking for a new machine in the future. You just showed me that it's possible to quilt a quilt. On a machine at home. I was looking into juki TL- 15 , Because it has a taller height in the throat space. But in comparison I'm not sure what your throat space height is ? Either way you sure made it look easier. Thank you for all your informative information. And being able to see you quilt the quilt makes all the difference. I'm joining your channel just from seeing this video one time. In hopes that I will learn more from you in the future Thank you.
This video was wonderful. I have done some small quilting projects so I got the basics but I love the wavy stitch idea and the spacing ideas. One thing I do wonder are the quilting adhesives something you use or do they cause to much sticky on the needle. Thanks for sharing your video!
They have come such a long way with sewing machines you would think they would have made bigger and better bobbins! Such a pain when one needs replaced! I always have several bobbins filled but still have to stop and put it in !
Hi, I am in love with the wavy stitches and I started quilt with it my first quilt. , thanks for the tips . I am new using MC15000, Just got it this year, so am learning a bit each day. Yesterday I was quilting , but something got wrong. I am using Serpentine stitch No. 8 , not using feet F, instead I am working with Accufeed Feet AD. My setting length 7. Width 5 , tension 5 And pressure auto. Now, I can only sew one line or two with this setting. Then , something estrange happens and the waves turn smaller and closer . I have try everything and still not working . I have to switch off the machine , re set again , try on some samples , and keep doing this several times. Finally I am waiting at least 2-3 hours the try again. Or wait till next day. What could be wrong ? I even safe the settings, but nothing works. So I am just able to sew one line each day. I want to cry , I can figure out what is the problem. Do you have any idea??
Your quilting looks great I love the wavy stich :) Thank you for demonstrating this on video. I have a Bernina machine, which I love, but it's older than me. I am considering investing in a sewing machine with the larger throat plate for quilting. It appears you like the Janome. I've also considered Bernina. Any tips on how to find the right machine for my needs?
I have both an old Bernina and a newer Bernina...the newer still only has 7.5" of throat space. After much deliberations, I started to see what wider throat space machines there were. I just bought a used JUKI Kirei and it has 12" of throat space. It is like moving from a tiny house to a mansion. I bought simply for the real estate, but it has thread cutting, pivot, two throat plates and feeders, even feed etc and tons of stitches. Dollar for dollar many more features (and you would find same for other japanese brands. Granted, they don't have the same "feel" as a Bernina, but performance and features make them a good value as you would pay thousands more for feature upgrade on Bernina.
I've never sewn on a Bernina so I don't have any comparison. The price point of the Bernina has kept me away but I am curious how they are to quilt on. Good luck in your search!
I recommend when you go to your dealer, try out as many machines as you can. Definitely look at throat space and if you use decorative stitches, see how many are offered. Also see if a walking foot is included or if it must be purchased separately. Also ( a biggie), make sure if you need servicing, a technician is at least close to you. I tried at least eight machines before I decided on mine, and am very happy I did.
I did wavy stitch on my Quilty Hearts quilt. I found that my wavy stitch wasn't consistently the same. Some waves were longer. Some shorter. Does going too fast cause that?
I am having the same problem right now. Did you find out what is it? I thought I was doing wrong the setting but I am not. Just changes automatically. So I stop, switch off the machine , then on again, re set , and give it a try. Even that doesn’t work. So I wait x next day. Please read the post I have just sent
Just found this video and just in time. I am going to quilt my first wall hanging and am curious about what happens when you get to the end of each line of quilting. Do you clip your threads or what? Just a little confused as to ending of each line. Thanks for any clues you can give me and I love your heart quilt!
Welcome! You just sew past your quilt top by a little bit and then trim the entire thing square when you are done. The binding stitches will hold all of the quilting stitches secure. You can also sew a stitch about an 1/8 inch around the edges when you are done quilting to secure the stitches before or after trimming square.
I usually quilt at my dining room table. I'm only standing since this is the easiest place to record video :) Although, I do occasionally stand and quilt to mix things up.
Just found your channel. I love the way you handle quilting the top. I am new to doing my own tops and wonder how you choose straight or curvy when there is a pattern like stars log cabin or flying geese. Do you just start on one end and do your lines. I am wanting to try it on 20 inch squares thanks
This is just what I am looking for. 👍 Just one question , how much bigger is the batting and backing from your top layer? I wanted to cut mine 10 “ each side bigger and backing 12” each side bigger but I think Is too much isn’t it? Thank you. I will have a look on my machine to find the wave stitch. I have the 15000. I do have the guide and the walking foot. I hope I can do mine.
