I'm a new subscriber to your channel and the Southfield Sub. What a great looking layout and track plan. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos and seeing you do operations on the layout.
Just found your videos. Love your layout and set up. Makes me remember when I was in my early teens and I used to dabble in trains. Lol. Makes me want to max out a couple credit cards and get back into the hobby. 🤔
Thank you! Maxing out cards is optional, but getting back into the hobby is always a great idea. I had about 10 years off and was very glad I got back into it.
Enjoyed layout tour #2…and another look at some of your town and industries…nice job with the backdrop…must’ve missed it in tour #1, didn’t realize a lower level and helix…looking down the layout/tracks from your hatch is a really cool view
Hi my name is Neil schwerdt and you've done a very nice job on the layout. My layover is. HO 18x 14 in the garage and it is Montana Rail link from 1987 throw 2023 Again nice job from Neil schwerdt.
That’s such an excellent angle of the layout from that access hatch that you are going to have to mount a camera there so you can show it without climbing under the layout. Excellent shot of the whole yard. The layout is really coming along nicely, great job.
I really like that shot from your N/E corner (i think it was) looking at your depot and interlocking... years ago I saw a couple C&NW semaphore type signals at a hobby shop in Concord, CA... I sure wish I bought them as I remember those as a kid... I think they were N/J International... I have 70 working signals on my layout and Im totally into them... Nice update! DD 😜 🤗
Just put ventilation, if you can in that ceiling area that you are talking about. That will help as far as continuous track cleaning I think. You can also even add more lighting in those areas. I wish I had the space that you have. That's what would do. I'm sure you will get it figured out though. You do have a great plan for what you wanting to do. Best of luck to you and if you need anything from me, I got YOU.
Great work! No more secrets about helix - I was always wondering how exactly that thing works… The first frame - quickly reminded me of Back to the future:)
You just need to do some weathering on your locos and rolling stock and you'll hit perfection. I really like what I see so far, keep up the great work.
I subscribed to your channel. You have done an amazing job on this layout and your videos. I am planning to get started on my new layout this fall. Thanks for the inspiration. I would like to have two levels and run to railroads that interchange with each other. As time and money allow I also want add a few other lines to run out of my union station.
Ahhh, operations. I've never really been that much into operating sessions. What I like to do is get a train assembled with the motive power and rolling stock that I want to see and in the configuration that I want to see it and send that train around the layout while I settle in at various locations for a railfan opportunity! I do from time to time switch out the industries served by the Harris Mill Jct Yard crew, but most of the time a train is being operated, its for railfan purposes. Perhaps one day I will get into that more, but for now Its more about the building and railfanning for me.
I love seeing this layout- while I am definitely a BN guy I do love the C&NW as well. What techniques do you use to weather your locos and cars, they look fantastic! I've subbed and I'll try and keep up with what you post on this amazing layout.
Thank you for the compliments! I weather with an airbrush for the main fading and griming but then there is usually a lot of dry-brushing for that detailed effect.
Thank you. It is a custom backdrop that was made from a panoramic shot that was mirrored and edited to make one shot a total of 30 some feet long. I have tried many backdrop companies and was never really satisfied with the options provided so I found a picture on one of the photo sites and extensively reworked it.
Cover the layout with plastic and paint the whole center section black. It makes everything disappear. It worked for me in my layout room of 13’x22’ when putting in any kind of ceiling was impossible.
Okay, I posted a short video on my channel, if you can find it. It’s called “TCZephyr”. It’s under museum ceiling. Somehow the video is a little blurry for reasons known only to RUclips It’s not much of a channel, I just toss out things from time to time
@@tczephyr3665 You are right, that really does make it disappear. Is that brush painted of through an air sprayer? Looks really nice and the layout looks great too. You should get more videos of the layout up!
Its Arizona Rock and Mineral "Mauve" 117-2 for the mainline and 117-0 powder for the sidings and yard. I like the look of it better than the actual Pink Lady that ARM has.
If you mean "deep" then most of the main level is 30-36" deep, with the exception of the peninsula which is about 12" deep where the helix entrances are and about 24" on the other end where Peter Epsteen Pontiac is.
Outstanding layout! I love all the small details. Looking forward to following along with you on your journey. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the compliments. MRL in 2023? I'm going to go check that out.
Very nice. I grew up near W. Chicago. We would ride either CNW or BN into the city. Still miss the old yellow and green.
Agreed. That's why I'm trying to have as much Green and Yellow in my basement!

You know what, that's a darned good idea. I could mount cameras in both access panels for a new angle on videos.

Wow, I actually don't have any of my signals wired up yet. To think that you have 70 operational signals is impressive to say the least

Thank you very much!

Oh yeah now I see where you got that idea from! Brilliant. I did not think of that!

Beautiful layout. Can you do a video on your operations of the layout? Would like to see how you go about that.

Questions where did you get your back drops? I love them

I have tried many backdrop companies and was never really satisfied with the options provided so I found a picture on one of the photo sites and extensively reworked it.
Love the layout and the great work with nailing the details. Where did you get the backdrop from?
Thank you. The backdrop is a highly modified design and print from a panoramic shot from Shutterstock many years ago

Do you have a video of it perhaps?
@@CNW1025 I never thought about shooting a video of my ceiling 😊. I could do that. Do you have an email address where I could send it?
@@tczephyr3665 Probably best to just post it here so everyone can see, no?

What track ballast are you using?

How wide is the layout? I know it varies but in general?
