Anti-healing is to keep healers in check. Each weapon shot applies it for 1.5 seconds. Early game, healers can get away with ignoring it, but later they will have to wait for them to cleanse it or they will just waste the cooldown. It used to be an item called Cauterize, so if you see someone mention Caut/Cauterize, that is what they are talking about. Sadly a lot of people don't cleanse it by hiding behind a wall/shield.

In regards to the "not being able to switch champions" part
In Paladins matchups have a lot more to do with planning than the actual champion you are playing, that is done through the talents/decks you use and itens you buy, it's really similar to league in a way.
    for example: If I'm playing Maeve against a team with a lot of projectile champions, I pick my move speed deck to be harder to hit;
If I'm playing against a lot of hitscan champions I use my resistance deck so I don't get as easily melted.
I like this system a lot because it allows you to main a particular character and have the option to adapt to a bad matchup instead of having to play rock paper scissors with your characters like in Overwatch (I really love both games, I just prefer being able to one trick and happen to like card games too)

You actually One Trick more in Overwatch.
If you’re using different decks for one character it doesn’t mean you’re a one trick because you have different decks set up for that character.
Overwatch, their system is based on you full on knowing and utilizing their kits. They’re more one tricks, as they don’t really have to adapt their play style much or even have to change it up at all.
Only way to one trick in Paladins is if you genuinely just play on one character.

I get why people think it's an Overwatch clone a little bit, but honestly the only similarities are that they are both team/objective based shooters with different characters of class types instead of one character that you select the class of. Paladins was in alpha testing before Overwatch was announced, but has gone through SO many changes since then. I've played both games a lot ,and I prefer Paladins based on diversity alone due to talents and loadouts. I also like how you can't just keep switching characters to counter everything constantly. (Unless you're Zhin, Zhin can counter ults)
Edit for misunderstandings: I'm not saying either is a copy of the other, just that calling Paladins a copy is not correct because it was first. They are their own things with similar inspiration. It's not that deep.

    • @dragonhunter2343
      @dragonhunter2343 Год назад +77

@@lmayo870 I understand the preference for swapping but I think locking you to your choice is better because you can be great at one character but it's easy for your opponents to know that character to figure out counters. The different builds help mitigate against easy counters but knowing what your opponents can do and adapting to how is just as important as what you can. I think you would have liked the game a bit more if you played sooner cause they made some changes I don't enjoy too much. I do prefer longer kill time and I enjoy playing support in games and I feel like supports have a bigger impact in Paladins. Flanks are my least played class but my second best character is a flank. If you can find one that you vibe with they can be great but I usually don't use them. I attribute most of your issues to not knowing the game and some exceptionally bad teammates. If I had a chance I would have liked to try to help you, teaching new players is really rewarding for me and the anti-healing change actually made me stop playing for like a month while I processed how much it lowered my enjoyment.

changing champions to counter the enemy team would lead to making some items you buy less valuable, lets say you are playing barik and you buy chronos (an item that decreases all your cooldowns by 10%) and then you switch to fernando since your shield is getting broken too much and you need it to protect yourself. Fernando gets much less value from chronos because his shield is based on a resource that doesn't get affected by the item. Congratulations you just wasted 300 credits because you wanted to play fernando and now the enemy chose to play a flying damage champ and you still got a problem.
You build your team based on what you are missing, not because of the counter play, that's why it takes so long to play ranked, something you shouldn't even be doing if you don't even have half the roster. And also, if you are looking down so much you can buy resilience since it makes crowd control less effective and makes it end sooner. Also paladins lets you play many other champions thanks to rotation where you can play a match with a champion you don't have.
I agree that to a new player this game is confusing with all the loadouts and talents that you can choose, but that's merely for the reason to let you play you favorite champions in multiple ways, and if you don't like that, you can just play them how you want.
I can't reccomend you enough to watch AndrewChicken and the tutorials he made about the mechanics of this game, they are even featured on the game's website, please check them out!

i have 3473 hours on paladins also my account is maxed lvl 999 and i love this game so much i will just say that paladins is the superior game all it needs is just some polish and bug fixes and it would be so much better. you can customize your playstyle to whatever you want imagine a flanking sniper or a tanking flanker and the item shop in a match helps out and so no 2 games will ever be exactly the same even tho you might have the same comp on the opposing team. i played ow2 since it released until now and i can freely say even tho paladins player argue that the game is very out of balanced i beg to differ i'd say paladins is way more balanced then ow2. like come on makoa doesnt hook you when your 10 miles away but roadhog does ... hmmm ... in paladins even tho its a team game and its not reliant on teammates like ow2 in ow2 if your healers dont heal you then your basically dead unless you find a healthpack but in paladins you have out of combat healing to heal you back to full hp and you even have item shop stuff to help you with it. even when it comes to prices or cosmetics etc. its 10x cheaper then ow2 and the skins in paladins is so much more amazing i look at the skins in ow2 most of them look like a recolor of the original outfit even the legendaries only a few look unique but paladins skins have amazing fx and details to them like they look very eye catching. (can watch DaddyMouse videos for skins he rates paladins skins if they are worth for purchase or not) Overall i'd say paladins is better if only it were polished, get bug fixes and if they brought back the old game modes and made it in to arcade mode like ow2.

If i were to describe what flanks are, it would be squishier damage dealers that trade their HP for mobility, allowing them to take alternate routes on the map in order to diatract or pick off support players. While im completely bias here, I found Maeve (the pink haired girl with the knifes) to be the most fun champion in the game. Still, i wouldnt recommend playing flank if youve just started playing the game, playing damage first would be a lot more optimal. @@lmayo870 i don't even necessarily think it's that, it's more so that the base mechanics of flanks are so much more complicated than the rest of the cast, especially when it comes to cards. having a good card build on a character like Buck or Evie can absolutely make or break how good your match is, regardless of skill level. The skill floor is just too high for most people to get into and the skill ceiling is so high that the people who clear the skill floor make it intimidating for other players.

Loved the video man, personally play paladins and overwatch (although more paladins that overwatch since ow2). A couple of things i might be able to clear up around anti healing, it reduces healing for 1.5 seconds after you get shot so the way to counter it is to avoid being shot for 1.5s and then get healed, it used to be an item that most of your team would buy but with the old item system it was a choice between antihealing or increased damage to shields for each person on the team. It sort of exists to counter pocket playstyles and team comps like pirates (paladins version of GOATS sorta) and add a change of pace to each team fight as the game progresses. In terms of the amount of stuns that happens ALOT when you play a tank - I am a tank main so best i can recommend if you ever play the game again is max out a useful item called resilience as soon as you can! Definitely understand your criticisms of the game, wish hirez would fund it more so evil mojo could move it to a newer version of unreal and polish the design a bit. I can say that if you ever go into paladins again definitely do it with as many friends as want to join cause it makes the early learning stages of the game so much more bearable as u get into it. regardless the video was a very enjoyable watch!

    Here's a deep-down explanation for Anti-heal:
Anti-heal is one of the core mechanics of Paladins, formerly known as Cauterize or Caut. It exists to add depth to the game and create a metagame for healers.
Anti-Heal starts low at first and gets higher as the match goes. How Anti-Heal works is that, when somebody shoots you, you get the status effect called "reduced healing" for whatever amount Anti-Heal currently is, for 1.5 seconds. You also apply the same effect to your opponents when you shoot them. For example, if Anti-Heal is 50%, and you get shot, if your healer heals you for 1000 hp, you'll only get healed for 500 hp if the "reduced healing" effect is active during the heal. Not getting shot again for 1.5 seconds (till the effect wears off) "cleanses" you and you'll be able to get full healing again. Healers in Paladins heal a lot more compared to the healers in Overwatch. They start out OP in early game because they can outheal almost anything, but in mid-game and late-game, you have to be a lot more careful and smart. In early game, big heal numbers are strong, but in late game, Anti-Heal goes all the way up to 90% which basically makes healing nonexistent, which makes Damage Reduction better in late-game (all healers except one have DR abilites)
90% seems OP, right? That basically erases healing from the game. But actually, the whole point of late-game is successfully managing to play around Anti-Heal, its what determines good players and bad players. Its what makes Paladins Paladins tbh.
This mechanic adds a lot to the game. It adds more value, more skill, and more fun for a lot of gameplay mechanics. Shields, positioning, timings, and certain abilites all have new untraditional uses because of this.
First off, there is more to healing then just your healer. Your teammates cant just run around mindlessly and wait for healing, they have to move properly in order to get heals. Your healer can play perfectly but if the person demanding for healing is constantly getting shot they'll get cauterized to constantly and your healer cant do anything to save you. Its not their fault at this point. So, there is as much thought and effort the person RECEIVING the heal has to put as the healer themselves, its a 50/50 team work. This makes it more satisfying to receive heals because YOU also played a role in that healing and not just got saved by the big mommy healer, but it can be a little annoying if YOU are THE HEALER and the teammates constantly take damage and flame you for not healing afterwards.
Shields can "cleanse" your Cauterize. Almost the entirety of shields in Paladins are NOT meant to be used as actual shields, but a tool. If you deploy your shield, you wont get cauterized even if your shield gets shot. So, even if you are under heavy fire, opening your shield briefly for 1.5 seconds and cleansing Cauterize will enable your healer to heal you back up where without utilizing the shield, it wouldnt be possible because of Anti-Heal. Shields have super low hp compared to the Overwatch counterparts and wrecker exists, so you have to use them sparingly, primarily using them to counter Cauterize especially in late game.
Heal timings and different types of heals also find different amounts of value depending on the Caut level and usage. For example, channel heals similar to Mercy's, are super strong in the early game as they can be used more freely, in any amount you please and much more frequently, where burst heals are stronger in the late game because with 90% caut you almost will never get a full 3 seconds of Uncauterized window to heal your teammate with hold-to-channel heals, you just wont have enough time. Rather, you'd just use burst heal abilites on them in the brief moment where there is no cauterize and heal them for the full amount. The power of burst healing. (Some healers have heal over time abilites and some have burst heals, former being stronger in early game and the latter being stronger in late game. Do note that its not a "tradeoff" by any means and they both can work flawlessly no matter the game stage, it all comes down to the player's skill.) This makes healing timings *super* important. If you're playing grover, if you carelessly pop the heal everytime, you'll heal during caut most of the time which will heal like 150 hp, but if you carefully watch your teammates healtbars and time your heals in the brief time windows where they dont have caut, you'll heal a massive 600 hp burst. You can even apply DR with Grover with the correct build.
Abilities. Some abilites find value in that they counter cauterize really well. Skills that make you ethereal (like Grohk's ghost walk) are long enough that your caut will cleanse itself and your healer will have a big time window where you cant get damaged (cant get cauted) but can be healed. Grohk can put down totems and use ghost walk to heal himself to full, during 1v1s, even with 90% cauterize in play.
And one final way to counter cauterize, is a shop item. Rejuvenate. It says "get 30% more healing from other plsyers" in its description, when most players read that, they think the effect procs after caut, so with 90% caut, you'd get 10% --> 13% healing, but no. You get 40% healing with 90% caut. That is a very considerable amount of healing for the late game. It makes heal-over-time heals more viable late game and gives more room for error for burst heals, because the entirety of your heal wont get butchered because you missed the heal by 0.003 seconds. All while making uncauterized heals even more stronger. Do note that the player RECEIVING the heal has to buy rejuvenate. Most of the time, only tanks buy it, except some special cases.
Cauterize also pretty much buffs Flankers as the match progresses, where the big carries happen. Flankers can turn into literal killing machines as the problem of healers are gone.
And one final thing that I should've said earlier, if your teammates' health bars are that yellowish green, they currently have Cauterize. If they have the normal blue health bar, they are clean.

For the anti healing, the reason it was added as a passive is because it used to be an item you buy, but here is the thing, it was an absolute must have item, by making caut/anti healing passive, it is no longer an item in a shop, which opens more possibility to buy other items over the anti heal. Also If anti heal did not exist, then support would be absolute meta, there was already a sustain meta that was very annoying to face, so I am thankfull it exists.

The point of cauterize is to have game progression (applies for items too). It forces people to adapt playstyles when the game approaches endgame. As people stated in the comments cauterize / anti-heal gets applied when you are hit with weapon damage and it lasts for 1,5s. It used to be an item called cauterize, but it was so must have that the devs made it into a ramping passive effect instead so that you can have more item build variety as otherwise you'd basically be forced to buy cauterize and use up one item slot.
Cauterize (as the item was called back then) / anti-heal gives the game progression where you need to adapt your gameplay the later you get into the match as anti-heal and items such as wrecker get stronger. This is a very old key design principle that the devs made back in the day that they want to have in the game. Combat gets more deadly as you can't actively be healed through it, but you have to not be hit to first drop cauterize in order to get healed. Alternatively you can buy items such as rejuvenate to mitigate cauterize. Same with shields in terms of wrecker. You will have less and less up time on shields as they get destroyed faster and faster due to increased shield damage from wrecker. These mechanics, however, were developed and designed SPECIFICALLY for siege, which is the main gamemode. This can lead to the other modes feeling chaotic, as you described in the video. Siege is the best gamemode by far imo and the rest is just filler for casual play to have fun in.
Im a last split master player and always like to interact with people about the game as I feel like it is highly underrated as just an OW clone and people forget all the cool and unique things Paladins does. The added depth and complexity from talents, items, loadouts etc. has always been more intriguing to me compared to what OW has going for it, which is why I've always highly preferred paladins over OW. Thing about cauterise is it either feels like absolute garbage or it feels intuitive, and it entirely depends on your teammates. Caut's supposed to incentivise your teammates to retreat if they need heals instead of just juggernauting and screaming at healers for not keeping them alive. The fact it lasts so short means its pretty easy for a tank to just breathe it off by holding up their shields, and flanks can just retreat and it wears off quite quick.

    Hi paladins bet here!
As there are loadout cards that heal a ton as well as supports that heal for stupid numbers, anti heal mechanic simply rewards positioning and being able to peel out of anti heal for them to get topped off and go back in the fight. During shield meta’s for example you absolutely wont be able to kill anything without anti-heal. To remove you will need to rework the damage scaling system and the healing scaling system. Previously (antiheal) was a purchasable item with credits that you collect after capturing or getting kills etc, which rewarded flankers and AOE characters a lot enabling them to dive easily and not see the enemy’s hp bar go up while dealing consistent damage. But when you played the game as it currently is compared to how was in the past, its passive now based on how long the match has been going for. it caused a huge meta shake because there is the possibility of getting rolled cuz you simply can’t kill a thing in well coordinated team fights. I tried to explain it as best as i could but there is a lot of stuff that i didnt go into such as shield reset mechanics or damage reduction ratios that different tanks have that make it extremely necessary to have such a mechanic in the game to be able to establish your own will on the game and the tempo. As the game currently stands, it has seen better days i consider giving it a more in-depth play time as the loadout system as it currently stands is one of the most fun things in the game being able to customize the whole character’s kit to your own preference and play style and something that really just feels right !

Anti-Healing is a debuff that wears off really quickly but can get reapplied without diminishing returns.
So if a tank just soaks and doesn't take cover, he dies.
If he takes cover for 1.5 sec or so, you can then heal him normally.
It's basically Anas nade from Overwatch but it doesn't entirely stop heals going through.

Along with buffs to alreadybstrong characters and a change in monetization. Much more was in it but that's the basics

OB64, Hi-Rez Studios introduced drastic changes, following their CEO's push for more revenue through character card loot boxes. This transformed the game into an unbalanced pay-to-win system, making characters overpowered. The community backlash was intense, leading the developer to revert the changes. However, the damage was already done, and many players left the game due to the negative impact of these alterations.

Have 500 hours in ow and 600 hours in tf2. Ive recently discovered paladins and Actually trying the game has me now thinking its the best of them all. Theres just so much room for creativity in most base characters, but especially their loadouts and talents. And pretty much all characters have some way of gaining schmovement, either in their base Kit or through their loadouts.
And the already achmoovinh characters? They can SCHMOOOVE!
Double poppy on bombking? (Poppy bomb is like junkrats mines if they actually had physique and didnt just shoot junkra straight upward all the time like actually what the fuck is that characters mines if he places it above his head he still flies upward wheres the fun in that!?!??)
70% cool down reduction on buck after elim??? (meaning that you gain your giant jump (like winston leap with waaaaay way more air control) back immidtaly after killing someone allowing you to force these rapid 1v1s all around the map!
Termnius hogging rhe Projectiles he gains by absorbing enemy fire with the +10% movement speed per projectiles card + +5% damage reduction per projectiles store card combo making you unkillable and speedy!?!??
    And just more and more.
Theres so much room for stuff and so much room for creativity in most characters. The physique-engine is so much better than ow (but worse than tf2 like Come on how can no one get physique like them!?) and the items YOOOOOO LETHALITY ALLOWING FOR +60% MOVEMENT SPEED AND +180% JUMP HEIGHT AFTER EVERY ELIM ALLOWING FOR INSANE SCHMOVEMENT FOR CHARACTERS WITH MOVEMENT ABBILITIES YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

To be honest, this game was a really good idea. Played it for a good bit after I quit Overwatch.
Paladins did 5v5 before it was cool. It also took advantage of its MOBA roots with the Talent system, Card system, and mid-game upgrades, which was cool as hell. I really like these ideas, but my main issue is how they were executed.
Starting years of Paladins were actually quite good despite the game being labelled as an OW clone. I found out about it because of that and tried it out when I saw it was free. Had an odd amount of fun playing Bomb King and Ruckus, but kinda fell off since nothing felt snappy nor satisfying. Not one to judge visuals too much, but I do judge animations quite hard.
A good animation, whether it shows the great strength your weapon has or the many other things it can achieve, can literally make any boring ass weapon cool as hell. Take COD MW 2020, which was a violently okay game, but exploded because of how beautiful the animations were (visuals weren't even the biggest deal). First game to make widescale Godtier animations, and it carried the whole game. Everything felt powerful, snappy, and satisfying, but Paladins lacks this entirely.
I like Makoa, but the way he throws his anchor feels flimsy. His cannon, although big and loud, doesn't do a lot of damage. Many characters share these problems, and it's an odd problem because not many people address it. How characters or weapons "feel" will either keep or throw players out your game, because if your characters / weapons feel like shit, then why use them?
I did come back when I saw Khan cause he was cool as fuck. This was my longest time playing Paladins, which was the period I mained Khan and he thankfully felt strong with his powerful full auto pistol revolver clusterfuck and could throw people everywhere. Absolutely badass character, but the issue is that he was the only character I liked.
This leads into another issue: lackluster kits. Paladins did what OW2 is doing right now but way earlier, which is add a lot of characters very fast. This seems awesome, but the issues are clear as day, even in OW2.
Kits are boring. You get higher quantity, but worse quality. Because of this, a lot of characters were either boring thematically or boring practically. Characters never felt cool until later into the games lifespan when the Paladins teams became more loaded. Even then, the only character I like to this day is Khan, which sucks.
Paladins is a really, really good concept, but its execution is very subpar. Some people got into it, but unfortunately, I did not. Apparently, Paladins had a wide variety of community issues, whether it be rabbid toxicity or whatever the hell. Game just dropped the ball, and it's obvious seeing how niche it has become and how it never really had a big "break". Unfortunate really, but it is what it is.

I think other people have explained the history so I'm just going to say: Cauturaize makes it more important to play strategically. At the start of the game its possible to brute force your way through situations if you have healers (as opposed to utility supports) but the longer the game goes on the smarter you have to play. You cant just constantly stand in the front line even as a tank, you need to take breaks so the healers can heal you efficently.
Youll have noticed there also arent any one shots in the game: Paladins is slower than OW, and most people take that as a bad thing but its a big reason why I like it. Hitting a nasty shot is good, but it doesn't immediately end a duel. You have to out think the opposition to win, not just outgun them.

As someone who has 1200 hours on Paladins and tried OW2 for a bit I could write an essay on why Paladins gameplay has more depth to it, but the game itself is still kinda buggy and difficult to understand at first
But things like the item store, loadouts and talents make the gameplay more diverse and adaptable
You don't like anti heal, then buy rejuvenate from the item store or learn how to actually know when to retreat and avoid it
Don't like being stunned into oblivion? Then buy resilence which can reduce effects of cc by 75%
Or if your support's useless you can build a loadout around self healing or buy healing items
But you'd need more than 20 hours to learn all these things which is why it can seem unappealing at first

Ok so Cauterize, the thing deminishing the healing used to be one of the upgrades you pay for
in the early days you could only get one upgrade per category and for many DPS characters it was probably the most efficient way to do their job, but it was overall inoffensive. Over time you stopped having to pick between upgrading reload speed and tanking heals AND people realized how effective it is. Also healers are very versatile in the game. Pip has been a viable flanking option since at least 2017, same goes for damage Ying and so on, so it became the meta upgrade. Eventually it got so bad you could get yelled at if you didn't go for caut first thing in the match, even with a single shot weapon (with the effect of the upgrade only lowering the heal for one second after being damaged) and important skills to lower the cooldown off, so devs decided to do something about it. They couldn't remove it because a full team of healers could 100% pull a win agins a properly picked team (I've done that, before and imagine if such team actually had a tank to focus on), so they decided to cut the potential harassment / purchasing mistakes and gave it to everyone for free.

Hi! I’m the guy who posted the “very helpful comment” about anti-heal (aka cauterize).
I think a big detriment of paladins is that it’s an extremely complex and competitive-catered game, but there is nearly zero official education available for a lot of the complex mechanics that take place. For example, the entire healing mechanic is not that complicated, but still requires an explanation. A lot of new players (I’m assuming yourself included) are thrown into the mess and don’t know anything about:
    - Anti-heal (and how it’s applied by any enemy weapon attacks and how it increases over time as the match progresses)
    - How to cleanse anti-heal (don’t get hit by enemy weapons for 1.5 seconds, and you’ll get full healing)
    - Out of combat healing (don’t shoot or get hit for 5 seconds and you’ll start regenerating)
And that’s just for healing alone. Knowing this means that certain team comps work better in the early game, where high-output supports can pocket their team through all damage, while other comps work better late game if they’re less reliant on healing and shielding. These nuances dictate the pace and flow of the game. There’s so many hidden mechanics that are taken for granted at a high level, but people don’t really learn about it naturally.

To hit a few points kinda briefly and all at once:
    1. Flanks are "support dps", they're supposed to help win duels.
    2. Supports are paired with tanks and their healing is supposed to be paired with some tupe of utility like damage reduction or speed buffs. When not with a tank or just for funsies, they can act as another dps- a couple of them are designed with that intention in mind. So cauterize is supposed to be felt but ignorable because your focus is on other things beyond healing.

    • @vividao4123
      @vividao4123 Год назад

@@DemiCape That's why I call them support DPS. In an optimal team comp, there are two tanks, two supports, and one dps. The catch is that the second tank and support are more focused on damage than their primary counterparts meaning that the singular DPS has to contribute something alongside their damage. Flanks are supposed to add their mobility as their main contribution. Unlike their non flank siblings, they can hop between fights and add bursts of damage so their team can take Ws throughout the map. Mind you, in any other team comp with more DPS, this changes but the mentality kinda sticks. Never solo as a flank, find a fight and help win.

I commented this before seeing that you looked it up.

  • @jeanmarie4711

anti heal is called cauterize. Basically it's an effect that last 1.5 after the last shot u received. that effect increase with the time to finally get 90%. Meaning that 90% of the heal will not apply, but it does not stack in anyway, only the last shot u receive will apply to u caut.
Let's pretend u got shot ; caut will apply for 1.5s, if u're not shot again, 1.5s later caut will be gone ; BUT ; if u being shot again within the 1.5s, it will reset the time of caut and u'll have to wait another 1.5s after the very last shot u got.
just in case, you dont HAVE to count 1.5s in your head, cauterize make ur life bar above ur head and ur mates head kinda green (normally its blue) so if ure a sup, u have to wait for caut to be off (or in other words, you have to wait your mates life bar to get blue again) before u can heal anyone, or else u just going to waste ur heal
caut 90% hits approximately at 10min of the game, so in the early u can easly ignore it. And that very same logic explain why 2 supps comps are extremely good in the early game (before the 6-7mins) cause u'll just have A LOT of heal, but after 10min, 2 supps comps are just trash asf cause u wont get any heal
a lot of paladins players dont understand that and thats why they keep complaning about their supps not healing enough but in fact thats their gameplay and game sense that makes them have no heal
    good video btw

  • @clockwork6966
    @clockwork6966 Год назад

The point of anti healing is because the supports in this game heal for alot, so to try and move away from healbots there is antiheal. on primary fire hits it is applied for a short time, after that time ends healing is restored to normal, hits refresh the duration.
The job is on the person who wants to be healed to make themselves the time for the anti heal to fall off (could walk behind a wall, put up a shield, or use certain abilities like grohks ghost walk), and on the support to be attentive enough to see when it has fallen off to heal them (the health bar is a different shade of green when an ally is under the effect of anti healing).
It makes for a higher skill ceiling when it comes to being a support and for others it becomes a skill to get out of anti healing long enough to get healed.
If you read through the items in game you would notice there is one to increase healing received by up to 30%, this directly counters anti healing (for example if anti heal is at -50%, that 30% is cumulative so you will be at -20% healing received while under the effect of anti heal.
There is also an item called resilience which reduces the effects of cc (stuns, slows, etc) so to complain about being stunned all the time is kinda void since its head countered by resilience.
They made a new and returning players guide on their website that explains alot of these thins, not in great detail but enough for new players to get a grasp of the various mechanics that make this game unique and dynamic throughout the match and skill levels.

I don't mind when people like overwatch better than this game (even though it still doesn't feel like you really got a full understanding of it, possibly due in part to not a lot of effort to actually learn being put into those 20 hours,) it's just irritating hearing so many people calling it an overwatch clone when the two games were in development at the same time.
And about the frequent stuns, there's an item specifically designed to make them negligible.

i have 1k hours in the game, last time i played it actively was in 2021, the game was in a pretty good state comparable to now. i always enjoyed the ranked experience a lot compared to any other games, in paladins you can spend on average 5 minutes in champion select in ranked matches, but every game there is coordination between your teammates, you all discuss who to ban, who wants to swap, who plays a certain role etc. i feel more teamwork just in paladins ranked champion select than in an entire overwatch match, and i hate the fact that you can just counterpick someone in overwatch. overwatch's characters felt pretty boring when i started playing it in 2020 but doomfist felt nice, now in overwatch 2 he is a tank and gets obliterated whenever someone in the enemy team picks sombra, which forces me to play another tank while almost all are boring. in paladins you just lock in your character and if you play well and have a good loadout you will never feel counterpicked. this game is better than overwatch in a few ways, it also feels a bit more competitive, in your average payload game there is not much going on and people play more strategically, having long trades etc. in overwatch i feel like one team can win a teamfight in 4 seconds before anyone even has their ultimates, so paladins definitely feels more slow-paced which i prefer in a game like this, overwatch is such a dopamine rush. sadly paladins is doomed to fail right now and i bet it will be shut down in 2025, they lost their lead art director 2 months ago and the lead game designer left the team 2 weeks ago, they have been reusing the same battlepass for like 4 years or so which is laughable, and since they dont have an art director their art looks terrible now, so the game feels even less polished, like as if 3 people in total worked on it.

the game is also flooded with bugs i used to see back in 2018 when devs cared about the game, you can have at least 3 slightly game breaking (will probably make you die) bugs every match, or more depending on the hero you play (for example terminus which is probably the most bugged hero in paladins history). almost every character in the game that has an ability with an animation before casting the ability has a bug that when you press the ability, it randomly cancels itself mid-animation and wont work at all. heck even the notifications are bugged, you can get a notification that you got 500 gold from a match and then the same notification stacks and pops up as new the next 3 times you open the notification bar. there also used to be kill cam and play of the game but devs removed it because the camera was bugged almost all the time and they didnt know how to fix it
    ruclips.net/video/Npbl6wPw52A/видео.html
ive also seen people complain about cheaters and toxicity in the game, but honestly in my 1k hours of playtime i have probably never met a cheater yet (i play on EU servers for clarification), and the community feels better than overwatch's, especially when you try ranked in both games.
paladins has a lot things to offer that makes it better than overwatch in some ways (i wont even mention the talent and card system because everyone knows that), but its clear which game is playable right now and its overwatch, paladins even runs on an engine from 2007 and instead of updating that the devs made smite 2 with the newest unreal engine, honestly a lot of people are complaining about overwatch since ov2 released and i feel like if there were more people that worked in this game and they actually put time and effort into it, it might have been in a better state than overwatch is, but the devs do not care about paladins and the proof of that is that since paladins released, they made rogue company, divine knockout, smite 2 and realm royale 2, all of these games literally noone asked for while they could have just made paladins 2, i dont see any person that would willingly play smite 2 or realm royale 2, while i feel like a lot of people, including overwatch players would try paladins 2 if it existed, but sadly hirez is a shitty company and they do not care.
tho i think one of the main reasons this game started to fall off is because they were releasing a hero every month instead of fixing bugs and polishing the game, now whilst i really enjoy playing almost any character in the game because the combat feels good in it and even tanks or supports have really fun gameplays, they could just slow down with making the heroes and fix their game instead, it just feels really cheap and buggy.
so in conclusion, this game could have been saved, 3 years ago is when it was doomed to fall already, because they released so many fucking heroes 4 years ago for no reason, and fixed like 2 bugs out of 200, i wish they could have sold their ass to some other company to fix the game and i bet it would even surpass ov2 due to blizzards shitty decision making, unfortunately hirez decision making is even worse and i think you can teach a toddler quantum physics better than you can teach hi rez studios how to fix a decent game with huge potential instead of abandoning it for fucking smite 2, realm royale reforged and new projects which will probably be dead on arrival.

Don't fuck with Paladins players we are used to normalazing abuse
That being said, in short Caut is in the game to add depth and balance supports. Whenever you hit someone with your weapon they are affected by caut by 1.5 seconds. They have to take no damage for 1.5 seconds in order to cleanse Caut. That's what good tank and supports do. The tank finds or makes cover for Caut to end, and the support heals the tank in that period. Same goes for DPS and Flanks.
Yes the wheel is trash, that's why players use the Legacy VGS system. It is a lot easier and more efficient.
You had a complaint about CC, which is easily solved with Resilience. It is a cheaper item, and reduces CC effects for quite a bit. That scales similarly to Caut, only that you have to spend credits on Resi. So CC is also better early game, and gets weaker nearing the middle and late game. It adds strat to drafting, because if you have way too many CC characters then your team value drops significantly with Resi coming online.
You can't switch characters mid match to counter, that's why there is an item store. The store is there for you to buy items to counter the enemy draft. It is balanced differently than Overwatch, where the balance comes down to counter picks. In Paladins, you are making your draft, that's why you don't pick easily countered characters early in the draft (like Raum) and instead pick it in the later picks if the enemy doesn't have too many counters. As for casuals, it's casuals so you shouldn't take it too seriously anyway. There is a lot more depth to the game that takes a while to notice and get used to, like zoning, comeback mechanic, ult recharge on kill streak ends, CD management and attention to enemies, item store knowledge etc.
You didn't enjoy flanks which is fair but you also played Talus and Moji. Talus is fine, Moji is very underwhelming to put it in a nice way (she's garbage). There's more fun options imo, as well as a lot more mobile ones. Talus and Moji are within the lowest mobility flanks you could have chosen.
You gave it a fair shot which I respect, it is definitely not going to be for everyone. Despite the meme and unfair comparisons, Paladins and OW play very differently and it can be felt. Their game and balance philosophy differs greatly. Plus chances are players will have internal bias when they try the other game after playing one of them for a longer period of time. Like for me I played OW but it bored me so much faster than any other game, especially coming from Paladins where I can play one character in different playstyles with Loadouts and Talents. I also find Paladins characters a lot more interesting than OW. All I can say is there's a reason Paladins lasted so long instead of dying like all the other games when OW was at its peak, especially since Hirez is handling the game lmao. I have 1.3K hrs on OW and 1.5K on Paladins.
Rank on OW : Master 1 DPS and Master 2 Support, Dia 1 Tank.
Rank on Paladins : I don't play ranked.
*Now let me add my two cents*
    *POSITIVES*
1). The most fun part in Paladins is actually the the card building and how can you mix-max your playstyle, and you're not even bother touching that, so that's a huge miss. Welp, you tried to do that in 20 hrs, so at least you tried. Those decision will affect your DPS (Damage Per Second) and it gives you dopamine boost seeing how the numbers popup changes. For example "Kinessa" used to have a legendary (talent) where you get more damage if the enemy is affected by mines, so running a card with 5 mines is viable, and your whole playstyle will change because of that. There's even a Flank Kinessa build.
2). The most fun role in Paladins imo is actually the Support, yes. This is coming from a DPS player on OW. Support playstyle is very anti pocket healing and more about everything else. Paladins support is crazy fun, because you can actually build the dps playstyle on it, and not just one playstyle for one hero. My favorite is Furia with her stun beam and maldamba. Ying DPS is also fun, there's even a dedicated guide on how to build DPS supports. If you think playing support like how mercy plays is fun, then Paladins really isn't for you. I can't name a single support that isn't in Paladins tbh, even ghrok is really fun if you run the Chidori build with bouncing electricity.
    *NEGATIVES*
1). While Paladins is fun in terms of gameplay, the devs really never focuses on polish. Polish on fixing bugs, polish on clunky movement, etc. Most old bugs in paladins are still recurring even to the recent time I played it. I truly believe Lead Programmer or whoever made the decision to halt this fixes to focus on something else is not focused on making Paladins a good game, let alone compete with Overwatch.
2). Hero lock in game and no role selection like in overwatch. It's frustrating when you don't have a tank and you already know it's GG from the start of the round.
3). I've stopped playing Paladins like 4-5 years ago because my disappointment from above statements. Once a year or two I tried to download the game and play it again just to see how much have changed, mostly I just become disappointed and uninstalled it again after 1 or 2 games.
    *CAUTERIZE* (The negative healing shit)
    - Seeing how stupid mercy buff and Kiriko suzu, I hope there's caut is actually added in overwatch. OW2 is slightly better since there's only a tank and goats are not a thing, but it's still annoying. If your team or you not playing a Hit-scan to shoot the mercy, then it's GG. Kiriko suzu is retarded, literally much better than bap's immortality. Suzu literally counter all ult, all fucking ult. it's fucking retarded. In OW2 support is not as fun as DPS. Kiriko is fucking busted, LW is useless, Ana is useless in high rank since everyone will counter with Kiri, etc.
    - In Paladins at least, all this Support can adapt their playstyle to fit the late condition of cauterize, even if they have to go DPS. Support playstyle is very anti pocket healing.

Extremely insightful comment from a person with great experience in both games. I knew about the card system and stuff like that, I just took that part out of the video because i thought it would drag the video on. And I agree with the anti healing, pocketing in overwatch is pretty stupid and anti healing would prevent this and make a much more interesting experience, although I think it shouldn't go all the way up to 90 or 80%

    • @lumba_lumba_lumba
      @lumba_lumba_lumba Год назад

@@lmayo870 Yea 80-90%, maybe that's too much. I haven't played Paladins recently so I don't really know the exact recent experience, I'm not surprised if it's as awful as you said. In OW we have ana's nade to counter those pocket healing playstyle, but we have Kiriko suzu now to counter anti. Not just anti, but literally anything. CC, ult, dmg. Kiriko is goddamn busted. At least with bap immortality you can only counter damage, not cc or anti, but suzu is on another level busted.
Anyway, cool for you to actually try paladins out and have discussion with the community.👍

The anti-healing in paladins used to be a purchasable item used that when you damage enemy players the healing they get from teammates is less but they made it built-in the point of it is to make the game go quicker and if that didnt exist people wont die in the game
it depends what stage you are in the match
like if u didnt capture anything 25% when the payload spawns raises and goes on till its 90%
and that doesnt make it always anti-healing.

I mean… you did summarize why my friends have a hard time trying to get OW friends to give Paladins a try. There’s a lot of information that just isn’t exactly explained and is learned via osmosis of playing.
Going in with an OW mindset also dampens the feeling. However the people that gave it a try from a moba background liked it more.
Instead of characters being hard counters to each other, the items are designed to counter the strategies or how the game is going.
Cauterize originally was an item but everyone bought it flat out so they just integrated it into the game.
I think what about it that people end up enjoying about Paladins is that this is very much the game experience ends up being what you make of it.
Personally playing both OW and Paladins, and I don’t have as much fun in OW as I do in Paladins.
OW I get more upset at my own teammates as game goes by because of how gameplay is, I end up just feeling stuck. There’s only so much a support can do.
Likewise Paladins a support can end up being the reason why a game turns around. Grohk, Pip, and Seris can do a lot of healing, but they can also consistently put damage. Support also have a lot of CC, which technically gets countered by Resilience (Item shortens CC effects)
Overall, Paladins has alot of depth, Overwatch relishes in its simplicity.
Maximum enjoyment of Paladins ends up with people who figure out the depth of Paladins and what they can do. None of the characters are essentially locked in what they are capable of, like Ruckus is best played as an Offtank/Brusier but he has a point tank/main tank playstyle but it makes his job harder.
Also.. Flanking in this game takes a different mindset. You got mobility and damage over survivable sustain. As my friend puts it, Play like a little bitch. Or guerrilla warfare is the way to go.
It’s shame you won’t give this game more of a chance, but I do understand why you feel the way you feel

OW has enough ppl who heal themselves, and there are health packs, so a game can be won without a healer. The ONLY way that can be done in Paladins, is if u have a sweaty Androxus, Maeve, or Evie who is playing on PC. Usually anyone who plays flank on mouse and keyboard, are top tier.
The long que times do suck, but they were way worse. Used to be 10,mins to get on a game. Also the trash community who think they kno the best way or "meta" loadouts and talent each champion should use. So ppl Wil throw a ranked game if u choose a talent they dnt think u should, even if it's the best way thag u play with that champ. I think that's the real reason they took the Cauterize item out, and made it a part of the game; some ppl who go the entire game without getting cauterize, and others would complain.

people already explained, but cauterize used to be one of the items, so your primary weapon shots gets you more in combat kills, as enemy cant heal while they're fighting you. They have to hide for 1.5 seconds, then they can be healed properly. Pip, the fox dude was so good if people didn't buy cauterize. Youre super agile, they're slowed, taking 840 damage per shot, while you're just bouncing around, if you get low health, just heal yourself for instant 2000 health and yeah... You could just wreck people with pip, especially in low to mid ranks. If people bought cauterize 3 which is 90% heal reduction, then pip as flanker got pretty fked, as now you cant heal mid combat, your 2000 heal became 200 heal.
Everyone bought the item so they made it part of the game and added a new item. But that was at the point game was going downhill and people on mass leaving due to bad servers.

    • @DageLV
      @DageLV Год назад

healers in paladins.... can heal. So if cauterize wasn't there, then 1 tank and 4 healers would be the meta for sure, as supports can dash out good damage and heal a lot. Youd literally could only get kills with oneshot abilities or singling out an enemy to a 1v1 hoping his team doesnt come there.

I'm like really late to this, i quite much agree with a lot of your takes on the difference between the 2 games. I have around 100hrs on OW and i have 2k+ hrs on Paladins.
Hi-Rez as a game developer is just sad, paladins is a game with a lot of great potential gone wrong. The graphics comparison says a lot too, for a game that's been around this long you would probably assume it must've been getting better but nope they don't give a fuck.
In terms of gameplay i personally enjoy myself a good movement shooter that lets me get away for not playing with perfect aim. I realised you didn't like playing the Flank role at all but maybe that's because you're not particularly used to the 1v9 assassin'ish gameplay which is the most fun playstyle. Something i adore Paladins for is the fact that almost every character in the game can be played as a DPS. I read in a reply comment that you're not a very OTP kind of player which i understand. This makes it definetely a lot more grindy since you don't quite know what's good and what not and there's a lot of complexity behind loadouts and itemisations and team comps in general besides the standard HAHA 2 dps 2 tank 1 healer. For example you were wondering about the Furia weapon there, its actually more incentivised to run furia as a hybrid DPS support rather than a main healer because of how her passive works, which also brings back to the point i was making earlier. It would be more realistic to compare Paladins to a movement shooter with MOBA elements rather than another "Hero" Shooter i'd say in terms of gameplay. Supports are not just Heal Bots with only 1 pupose which is Heal and CC. :)
Now then the big cauterize situation. *Sigh*, not sure what this was for either they just wanted to change some stuff up ig? It used to be an item that was bought but what would happen is if someone snowballs really hard they end up rushing caut 3 at 2-0 and now its almost impossible for the enemy team healer with chronos 1 and 10 deaths to heal completely throwing of the pace of the game. There were definetely better alternatives to go about this but eh, They just made it a passive thing. But on the upside anyone who knows how to play the game would avoid damage and retreat to get healed. It's a common concept that if you want heals you yourself must fall back to it and not let the support mis-position to pocket you. So overall in higher ranks it doesn't really do anything tbh. Items like Wrecker and Haven are more BS imo.
Characters are meh, its not the worst thing about the game but not the best either. I believe after Vora's release the game really went to shit, they just started pumping character left and right which makes no sense to me. Also i recommend anyone that plays the game to use Legacy VGS instead of the wheel. You mentioned that voice lines were meh but fyi every skin comes with a different set of voice lines and even sometimes are even different voice actors. I have yet to find a game that honestly changes up the vibe of characters that much yet outside of Paladins which was pretty amazing and felt good to collect skins.
I do agree comp takes too much time to setup but then again so does other MOBA's so like not much to say about that besides maybe they shouldve been stricter with dodgers? Comp takes longer depending on region and time and your overall MMR, q times are fine in Plat + for the most part.
Not being able to switch champs mid game is a concept i don't understand that well. This is a concept i've never seen out of Overwatch and is one of the reasons i find overwatch gameplay boring. In Paladins you have 5x the amount of champs than overwatch so rather than the common rock paper scissors counter matchups its more about team building. I've mentioned this yet again but its avidly more similar to a MOBA.
Well this was sorta long huh. I guess all i would say is Paladins is by no means a great game but its still a fun game to play with people. But if its not for you ig its not for you.
This is coming from an ex-paladins player XD.

very insightful comment man i appreciate it. I understand where you;re coming from with a lot of your points and i agree with a good amount of them. Im just happy that you arent shoving your opinions down my throat like a lot of other paladins players. You're right, im not an OTP player but i used to be, just kinda got boring after a while i guess. I didnt know characters had as many voice lines as they did in the game, or even some skins change that up (or maybe i do and i forgot idk i made this vid a while ago). Im glad you agree that some of the character's personality is meh though, yeah they got lots of voice lines but what does that matter if they're not executed well? Quality over quantity. You were spitin facts though, really glad i took the time to read your comment brotha

You can play paladins for hours in causals, but once you get to ranked you have to know which builds work. And what champs work on which maps. You also have to know which builds are good. Like tigron's fury is the only good build in ranked for tiberius. And Bariks only good build in ranked is fortify.

After the pve news one of my OW friend groups jumped ship to Paladins (melodramatic fuckers). So, I downloaded it too. I think my first impression of this overwhelmingly janky game was that I was enjoying its novelty. I'm a Lucio main, and got addicted to Evie because her kit is GOATED.
    - The card system: It allows you to talor your kit to your own playstyle. I like it, but prefer OW's simplicity. In OW you form a relationship with a hero's kit and it allows for better clarity in ult/ability cooldown tracking.
    - Item/perk system: I can see it leading to unnessasary disadvantages in game. For one, the team that plays better earns more credits. This gives them an advantage when they were already winning. Say youre getting cc'd a lot, you essentally have to upgrade cc resistance which puts you and your team behind in the "credit/item economy" relative to the enemy team. Also, there is so much cc like wtf.
    - Seige: It is literally the only good game mode. It is also phenominal and I really wish it was in Overwatch.
    - Polish: OW. Visual and auditory feedback matter.
    - Store/cosmetics: Yes, fuck Blizzard, but also where are these crazy ass skins I keep seeing Paladins players talk about? Also, I stopped getting lootboxes like 3 days in and its gonna take me at least a few months and 69billion commercials before I get enough diamonds for a single skin (OW2 moment).
    OW > Paladins

The anti-healing has a LOOOONG history
basically, there's always been an issue with healers doing FAR too much healing, but the damage champions do SO much damage that the healers need to be able to burst for very high numbers
To counter the healers' OP healing, they added an item called Cauterize that would reduce healing on targets you hit with your primary weapon for a short time, forcing that person to hide temporarily in order to get a proper heal. After a while, every single person in every single game was buying Cauterize because the game was simply a loss without it. Eventually, Hi-Rez just added Cauterize as a passive effect that scales throughout the match. It behaves essentially the same as Cauterize did as an item. So basically, rather than rebalance every single character's stats and numbers, they just reduce healing throughout the match, and the rest sorts itself out. It's a surprisingly effective fix for how dumb it sounds. You have to understand it to play around it, but if you DO learn how to effectively escape the anti-heal as a tank, you will get a lot of love from your team (especially your healer, who appreciates it massively)
Paladins is an extremely fun game when you understand wtf is going on. It's far closer to a MOBA like DOTA than it is to Overwatch. There are hundreds of different ways to play each character between your items and loadouts each match, and the talents just further expand that, though not every talent on every character is good, or even viable in actual play. This is, however, an understanding that all long-time players have. Every character and their cards and talents are ever-changing to help move the meta in another direction. There are hard counters and soft counters to every character and there aren't any characters that aren't worth playing if you're willing to get creative. Healers can do incredible damage if played correctly, tanks can play off the point and some can even heal your flanks. Damage characters can be played in all sorts of positions, not just the backline. It really is an infinitely creative game and THAT is where the fun is.
I don't like overwatch because the characters are rigid and must be played a certain way to be effective. Mastery of a character just means you play them just like every other person who plays that character at that level. In paladins, I play characters in unorthodox ways that enemies aren't used to, and it catches them off-guard. I love that about it. It's not for everyone, but it isn't a bad game. The devs are STUPID, but they made something genuinely good and they do an ok job of keeping it just enjoyable enough. Lol

    • @lmayo870
      @lmayo870  Год назад

dont get me wrong i think the creativity and unique aspects of paladins is 100% its strong suit, in my opinion i just didn't think it was excecated properly but thats also the dev's fault lol. To be honest if the game was better polished and had a team behind it that cared about how wacky the game is, it would be a lot more enjoyable to me and lots of other people. I feel like the crazyness of this game could rival that of tf2, mainly because there is so many different ways to approach an enemy and lots of playstyles for one character. I respect your opinion but i still think the game isnt for me, and it probably will remain that way for a long time
